We can all probably guess why he was killed, he'd contradicted Colin Powell's fantasy at the UN vis mobile chem / bio labs in Iraq and was clearly setup by the "many dark actors playing games..." over the fiction that was Iraq WMD.

You may recall the case of the young Muslim woman from East London, Roshonara Choudhry, who is reported to have stabbed the depleted uranium voter, Stephen Timms

I think we might as well have these "interview" extracts on view, as it seems to me this is an example of the freeze dried, instantly available narrative.
I'm suspicious of the preamble, clearly stating the key "dropping out date" and then having that electronic text date "confirmed" in the dialogue.
I was thinking of inserting the question, "do you like bananas" before the "yep", just to illustrate my point. But that would be a fabrication now wouldn't it ...
If we're going to have the "new normal" of "police interviews" being published, then why can't we have it all and not just the "salient extracts", - those extracts that, clearly, are included to deliver the key points of the narrative and to mention the key root events that all work diabolical wonders in the date relationships ...
Or, alternatively, if we're going to have a "narrative" pre-amble which delivers the "key date"and "key root events", then we might as well just have the narrative, because that's what this "interview transcript" effectively is.
It's all we've got to go on, which is why it has been "delivered".
Compare this situation with our inability to access real trial transcripts because a case is deemed, "sensitive"....
I'm also suspicious of the ability of the "interviewing" officers to get Ms Choudhry to mention, all of these:
Anwar Our-Lackey, Sheikh Abdullah Azzam, Shimon Peres, refer to the ICSR and mention the psyop, honey pot website, founded by the Rabbinical Scholar, Joseph Cohen, revolutionmuslim.com
Another highly suspicious aspect of this case is the emphasis one reads in all of the reports that Roshonara Choudhry acted alone, under no other influence but the internet. This aspect is also confirmed in the alleged police interview transcript.
Roshonara Choudhry is, in effect, "the lone knife woman" ™.
It goes without saying that the Guardian's Vikram Dodd is their "go to repeater" for all things War of Terror and spookiness ...
I also think it's very strange that a defendant who is reported as not recognising the court's jurisdiction and who is reported as instructing her defence not to challenge anything the prosecution says, then applies to watch those proceedings over a video link. An application that was denied by the Judge, Mr Justice Cooke, who then allowed the link for mitigation and sentencing. Most odd.
Did she speak to anyone about the case ?
Are we to assume she had no contact whatsoever with her own defence ?
This poster has it about right in my view:

Choudhry says she was studying English and Communications at King's College London, but dropped out on 27 April 2010, in her third year.
Simon Dobinson So what made you drop out of that?
Choudhry 'Cos ... because King's College is involved in things where they work against Muslims.
Q OK. What sort of things?
A Last year, or the year before, they gave an award to Shimon Peres [Israeli politician] and they also have a department for tackling radicalisation … So I just didn't wanna go there anymore ... 'cos it would be against my religion.
Q OK, and when did you sort of make that decision?
A About a month ago.
Q OK. It seems quite a long time to be there and almost to the end of that course, you know, the end and just to let it go. Is there any ... did you have any problems understanding the course?
A I was the top student.
Q Was you? OK and what did they say when you pulled out?
A They didn't want me to pull out.
Choudhry says after leaving her course, she worked at a tuition centre called KnowledgeBox teaching maths, English and science. She says she won't be working there any more.
Q Why's that then?
A Because of what I just did today.
Q Well, tell me about that then. Tell me what happened today.
A I stabbed Stephen Timms.
Q You stabbed Stephen Timms.

Q Why did you make that appointment?
A So I can do what I did.

A I thought that it's not right that he voted for the declaration of war in Iraq.
Q When did you start thinking about that?
A Over the last few months.
Q What's led you to start thinking about that?
A I've been learning more about Islam.
Q Where have you been learning that?
A Internet.
Q What websites you been looking at?
A I've been listening to lectures by Anwar al-Awlaki.
Q Anwar?
A Al-Awlaki.
Q Who's he?
A He's an Islamic scholar. He lives in Yemen.
Q And where have you been listening to these lectures?
A I down loaded it off of the internet … Explaining stories from the Qur'an and explaining about jihad.
Q And has that contributed to your decision to leave King's?
A Yes.
Q And where was the link there then?
A I thought that I should have loyalty to my Muslim brothers and sisters in Palestine and so I should leave King's and that would show my loyalty to them.
Q Who have you been watching these lectures with?
A I listen to them on my own.
Q So when did you decide: 'From what I've learnt, I'm now gonna go and stab Stephen Timms?'
A A couple of weeks ago. It's three weeks ago, four weeks ago.
Q So it's quite recent?
A Yep.
Q Before you finished college? After?
A Before.
Q And that was 27 April, if I remember rightly, was it?
A Yep.
Dobinson How do you feel now about what you've done today?
Choudhry I feel like I did what I'd planned to do.
Q OK, do you want to tell me more? Tell me what you're thinking now? Tell me what your thoughts about what you've done today are.
A I feel like I've ruined the rest of my life. I feel like it's worth it because millions of Iraqis are suffering and I should do what I can to help them and not just be inactive and do nothing while they suffer.
DC Hussain Sorry, just before we finish, I've just a couple of questions that I've got to ask you. When did this interest of yours for Islam develop?
A I've always been quite religious and I started to listen to Anwar al-Awlaki lectures last year and then I started to get really into it and I listened to everything that … like all of his recorded lectures that he made and that would have been like since November. I've been listening to him since November.
Hussain How did you get introduced to Anwar al-Awlaki?
A He's quite famous and I've started to listen to his stuff.
Hussain How did you come across him?
A On the internet.
Hussain Was that from your own research or did someone recommend him?
A From my own research but everybody listens to him and likes him anyway.
Q Do you go to a regular mosque?
A No ... I just pray at home.
Q Who do you discuss your Islam with?
A In general I just talk about it to my brothers and sisters but I don't mention everything to them.
Q If you've got a question that you want to ask or you want answered, who do you ask?
A I don't ask anyone I just listen to his lectures. There's no one to ask.
Hussain I just want to go over a little bit how your thought has gone from getting to religion to all of a sudden wanting some form of vengeance.
A Because as Muslims we're all brothers and sisters and we should all look out for each other and we shouldn't sit back and do nothing while others suffer. We shouldn't allow the people who oppress us to get away with it and to think that they can do whatever they want to us and we're just gonna lie down and take it.
Q Where did you learn that from?
A From listening to his lectures.
Q And that's caused you to do what you've done today?
A Yeah.
Q OK. Just a couple of other things. You bought the knives, you say, two to three weeks ago ... Where did you keep 'em?
A Underneath the bed in a shoebox.
Q How did you feel about what you was about to do?
A I was a bit nervous about what I was gonna do but I felt like it had to be done and it's the right thing to do.
Q Having done it, how do you feel now?
A I feel like I did my best to fulfil my duty to the other Muslims.
Dobinson ... What did you think was gonna happen once you'd carried out your intentions?
Choudhry I thought that I would either get arrested or maybe I would like get killed or something.
Q How would you get killed?
A Like, if the police came and they had guns.
Q [Inaudible] take me through your thought process about that then?
A Oh no, I was just thinking about the possibilities and I thought it's either getting arrested or being killed. But either way I knew I wasn't coming back home again.
Q What, what did you think about getting killed then?
A I wanted to die.
Q Why?
A I wanted to be a martyr.
Q Why's that then?
A 'Cos, erm, that's the best way to die.
Q Who told you that?
A It's an Islamic teaching.
Q Where did you learn that?
A It's … it's in the Koran and I learnt it from listening to lectures as well.
Q OK, what lectures are that?
A By Anwar al-Awlaki.
Q al-Awlaki?
A Yeah.
Q OK, well, how did you find out about him?
A On the internet ... if you go on YouTube there's a lot of his videos there and if you do a search they just come up ... I wasn't searching for him, I just came across him ... I used to watch videos that people used to put up about like how they became Muslim.
Q OK, why did you watch those videos?
A 'Cos I thought ... their life stories were interesting ... And as you watch videos that like a whole other list of related videos comes up and I was just looking through those and I came across it.
Q Anwar al-Awlaki?
A Yeah.
Q OK. So who put you, who guided down this path to, to look for, you know, the videos of people and how they become Muslim?
A No one, I just found them really interesting ... I became interested in Anwar al-Awlaki's lectures because he explains things really comprehensively and in an interesting way so I thought I could learn a lot from him and I was also surprised at how little I knew about my religion so that motivated me to learn more...
Q What happened in November then?
A I downloaded the full set of Anwar al-Awlaki's lectures.
Q Yeah, what do you reckon the full set of his lectures are?
A More than a hundred hours.
Q And have you watched all those lectures?
A Yeah.
Q When did you finish watching them?
A The first week of May.
Q How often were you going onto the internet ...
A First I was listening to like two a day but then for a while I stopped because I had coursework to do and then I started back up again because I thought I need to finish listening to these.
Q Yeah. Apart from the lectures, what else were you looking at online?
A I was looking at YouTube videos about the resistance in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Q What other sites, remember any particular internet sites you looked at?
A When I was doing research about MPs, I looked at one called theyworkforyou.co.uk [theyworkforyou.com] and I think another one was called publicwhips [the publicwhip.org.uk].
Q Yeah, anything else?
A There's a website called revolutionmuslim.
Q OK. Forgive me, I find it, I just find it a little bit strange that you're doing all this on your own and not speaking to anyone else about or ...
A Because nobody would understand. And anyway I didn't wanna tell anyone because I know that if anybody else knew, they'd get in trouble 'cos then they would be like implicated in whatever I do, so I kept it a secret.
Q OK. When did the Iraq war start?
A 2003.
Q So how old would you have been then, 14?... did you have any strong view feelings at that time when the war started?
A No, I was just against in general like everyone else but not strong feelings.
Q And what changed ... what made you get those strong feelings that you've obviously got now?
A When I realised that I have an obligation to defend the people of Iraq and to fight on their side, that's when it changed my mind and also just like the death tolls and the civilian, like casualties and the pictures from the prisons.
Q OK, can you pinpoint the time when that changed or was it a gradual ... was there one particular incident?
A Like, erm, after like listening to the lectures, I realised by obligation but I didn't wanna like fight myself and just thought other people should fight, like men, but then I found out that even women are supposed to fight as well so I thought I should join in.
Q Where did you find that out from?
A A YouTube video by Sheikh Abdullah Azzam.
Q And what was he saying?
A He was saying that when a Muslim land is attacked it becomes obligatory on every man, woman and child and even slave to go out and fight and defend the land and the Muslims and if they can't handle like the forces they are facing, then it becomes obligatory on the people who live in ... closest to that country and if those people refuse to fulfil their duty then it, then it becomes to the next closest people and the next closest until it goes all the way round the whole world and it's obligatory on everyone to defend that land.
Q OK, and when did you watch that YouTube video?
A That probably would have been a couple of weeks ago like some point in April.
Q Was that before you bought the knives or after you bought the knives?
A That would have been before I think ...
Q ... how soon after watching that video did you decide to put things into action? Or to make plans?
A It would probably would have been like a few days or something.
Choudhry says she was planning to leave the UK and live in Bangladesh. But she changed her mind.
Q Why didn't you go?
A 'Cos I thought if this is more important then I shouldn't just be running away.
Q You say 'this is more important'. What is more important?
A Fighting.
Q You at some stage since then decided that 'I'm gonna kill Stephen Timms, the local MP'?
A Yeah
Q OK, so explain to me again why, why him? Lots of people voted for the war in Iraq, lots of MPs.
A Yeah, erm, it's because ... well, even the doctor asked me that: so like are you ... were you gonna kill everyone? And I told him that I'm just one person and I did what I could.
Q I was asking you why Stephen Timms was picked on... Why did you pick an MP to carry out this attack?
A Because he was directly involved with the declaration of war, so he'd directly committed a crime.
Q How did you know that?
A Because years ago back, maybe 2007 or 2006, I went on a school trip to Westminster and to meet him and we sat ... there was a group of us like maybe about 10, and we sat with him for … like an hour maybe and spoke to him and one of my friends there she ... we, we were all just asking general questions about what's it like to be an MP and what kind of work do you do and what are you doing at the moment, just general things like that. But there was this one girl there and almost the whole time we were there, she was having a go at him for ... because he voted for the war in Iraq. She was questioning him about that.
Q OK, and what did you think about that at the time?
A At the time I was thinking that she should be quiet and that she's embarrassing herself and I didn't say anything to support her, I just sat there feeling embarrassed.
Q Embarrassed, what for her or yourself or what, anyone else?
A I guess I respected her for having the guts to just say all these things to his face but like I wasn't brave enough to say anything, I just sat quietly.
Q Did you want to say something to him then?
A Not really.
Q So, have you carried out any research to ... about Stephen Timms.
A Yeah, on ... I looked up, I found, I Googled him, I found out he had a website, I found a page about him on theyworkforyou.com ... if you follow that link it shows information about how he voted on different things related to the Iraq war and the build up towards it. I found out that ... he very strongly agreed with the invasion of Iraq and they said very strongly because they worked out all his votes for everything related to that and it came up to something like 99.9% support or something like that.
Q How does that make you feel?
A That made me feel angry because the whole Iraq war is just based on lies and he just voted strongly for everything as though he had no mercy. As though he felt no doubts that what he was doing was right, even though it was such an arrogant thing to do and I just felt like if he could treat the Iraqi people so mercilessly, then why should I show him any mercy?
Q What, what makes you think that it's your place to go and stab him?
A Because I'm a Muslim and all Muslims are brothers and sisters. So if he attacked them, then he's likely to attack me too.
Q So where in the Qur'an does it say that you should go and kill someone?
A Erm, the main chapters about it are chapter ... chapter eight and chapter nine, I think.
Q What does that say, can you remember?
A Erm, it says to ... it says to fight until there is no more oppression in the land. Because it's better to fight than to be persecuted.
Q What do you think about what you've done to Stephen Timms and all that?
A I think I've fulfilled my obligation, my Islamic duty to stand up for the people of lraq and to punish someone who wanted to make war with them. |

The recent case of Roshanara Choudhury (represented by Jeremy Dein QC and Ben Smitten and instructed by Edward Fail Bradshaw and Waterson) gave rise to some novel problems for the defence team.
In May of this year, Miss Choudhury stabbed Stephen Timms, Labour MP for East Ham at his constituency surgery.
Choudhury, an outstanding student at King’s college, London, had purchased two knives from a ”pound shop“, visited Mr Timms’ Surgery, and there attempted to kill him.
When arrested for GBH, she immediately said she had stabbed him due to his support for the war in Iraq.
When interviewed, Miss Choudhury underlined that this was an attempt to kill, her motive being “to get revenge for the people of Iraq”.
From charge onwards the defendant’s standpoint remained consistent in that she refused to recognise the jurisdiction of the court and that she would play no active role in these proceedings. Furthermore, due to her refusal to subject herself to what she considered to be the humiliation of a strip and search as required, she declined to exit her prison wing for any purpose, least of all to attend the Old Bailey.
In consultation by video link, the defendant firmly instructed her counsel to neither challenge nor undermine the prosecution case and confirmed that she did not intend to give evidence.
Notably though, the need for legal representation was never questioned.
At the PCMH, [plea and case management hearing] the judge entered a plea of not guilty on Miss Choudhury’s behalf. A date for trial was fixed although neither the defendant nor any defence expected were to feature, the Crown simply having to prove its case.
An application was made for the defendant to observe her “trial” by video link. Cooke J held that there may be circumstances, exceptionally, where video link might be a sensible method of ensuring participation for a defendant who would not otherwise be able to participate, though not to give evidence ( per Ukpabio 2007 EWCA crim 2108).
However, the judge ruled, Miss Chouhury’s unwillingness to succumb to a strip search, thus her absence, did not provide justification.
At the trial itself, the evidence was not agreed so witnesses were called, but not cross examined.
At its conclusion, neither counsel made a closing speech, the jury having been made aware of the defendant’s standpoint.
Summing up was delivered in traditional form, and having retired, the jury unsurprisingly convicted the defendant, albeit in her absence.
Quite separately, the provisions of s57E Crime and Disorder Act 1998 were implemented to facilitate video link for the purpose of mitigation and sentence. The proceedings had lasted barely two court days. At their conclusion, Miss Choudhury, 21, was sentenced over the link to life with a minimum term of 15 years.

It is alleged in the indictment that Dhiren Barot visited the US on 17 August 2000 and returned to the UK on 14 November 2000. DB visited again on 11.3.2001 and returned on 8.4.2001. The last two days were spent sightseeing and some video was recorded as tourists do.
Over 4 years later, Dhiren Barot, then turned into KSM's al-Britani and the sightseeing trip then became a surveillance trip for terrorism.

The detailed plans for Barot’s American operation were discovered in encrypted files on a DVD found in a Sainsbury’s carrier bag in the same garage. The password to unlock the file — MandiLoves/03ArmyofMadinah — was found in documents uncovered during an anti-terrorist raid in a house in Gujarat, Pakistan. When used to open the DVD, it revealed four detailed documents for attacks in Washington DC, New York and Newark, New Jersey.
The files were entitled “Holiday Pictures”, “Holiday Videos” and “Presentation”.

The full details of Dhiren Barot's plot to set off a radioactive "dirty bomb" containing smoke detectors was revealed yesterday. At a cost of £70,000, Barot, 34, proposed building a bomb that would cause radiation sickness in about 500 people and produce mass panic.
The Muslim extremist suggested setting off the bomb incentral London, or a city in Spain or the United States, Woolwich Crown Court in London was told yesterday.
Edmund Lawson QC, for the prosecution, said that the plan appeared to have been based on an incident in France when a lorry carrying 900 smoke detectors crashed, provoking concern about possible exposure to radiation - the detectors contained small amounts of radioactive material.
In a terrorist document Barot wrote: "If something so small and simple such as 900 burning smoke detectors could cause so much havoc, then by increasing the amount used, the possibilities are good."
He suggested in his presentation document to al-Qa'ida leaders that the radiation project should use around 10,000 smoke detectors and either "set them alight" or "place them on top of an explosive device".
His proposal also contained research into the possible effects of the radioactivity released if such an attack was carried out, including the long-term risks of cancer and infertility.
Barot speculated that such a dispersal of radiation could cover a large area. He wrote: "The burning has the potential to affect around 500 people... as soon as we realised this... we concluded that it deserved to be an independent project in its own right."
He said the bomb would cost £50,000, with each smoke detector costing £5. He thought £20,000 might be needed for storage, bringing the total cost to £70,000.
In other suggestions, Barot discussed the consequences of train crashes and referred to the carnage caused following the Ladbroke Grove accident, the court heard. Barot wrote: "For some time now we have had thoughts on executing a project on a busy train network. Moreover, I have a personal friend who is a train driver. Every so often he takes a friend on to his train in the driver carriage with him just for the sake of company."
The document also contained Barot's comments on the Heathrow Express, where he speculates that gas could be leaked into the train during the day because it was relatively quiet.

In August, 1976, a sixty-four year old worker at Hanford, Harold McCluskey, [ aka Atomic Man ]was heavily contaminated, and nine others contaminated to a lesser degree, with americium-241 in an accident in which a cation exchange column at an americium recovery facility exploded. The explosion was thought to be the result of a reaction between nitric acid and products produced from the radiation-induced degradation of the cation exchange resin. The treatment of Mr. McCluskey over his lifetime (he died in August, 1987 as a result of complications of coronary artery disease) became a classic study of the techniques of medical care for such exposure.
The first fine ($102,500) imposed on the U.S. Air Force in the United States by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission was the result of an incident in 1989 at Wright-Patterson Air Force base in Ohio in which an employee conducting an inventory opened one of several drums containing americium-241. The drums were being stored without proper seals, and the site was not licensed for storage of radioactive materials.
A truck carrying 900 smoke detectors overturned and burned on the A31 highway in the area of Langres in eastern France on October 9, 1999. Because individual detectors did not contain large amounts of radioactive materials, the regulations for transport did not require that the truck carry the usual warning placard, and the truck (which was also carrying combustible liquids) was allowed to burn without any actions being taken to control radioactive contamination. Notification that the truck had contained radioactive materials was not made until October 13, 1999 (by the consignee for the shipment, who was only informed on October 12 of the loss). The cumulative release was estimated at 3.96 MBq, and about 40 people were potentially contaminated, although subsequent whole-body monitoring did not detect any of the material.

In August of 2004, when the British arrested 13 people under the Terrorism Act, a number of smoke detectors were found among the materials the suspects had accumulated. While the relatively small amounts of americium used in the average smoke detector meats that the terrorists would have had to accumulate a huge number of detectors to acquire sufficient radioactive material to actually cause injury, the feeling seems to have been that simply having something that would cause radiation detectors to respond might have been enough to accomplish the terrorists' goal of seeding fear (the charges against eight of the suspects included "Conspiracy to commit a public nuisance by the use of radioactive materials, toxic gases, chemicals, and/or explosives.").
It has also been suggested that terrorists may be interested in americium because it is a fissile material that could, in theory, be used to produce a nuclear bomb. However, given that the critical mass for an explosion is of the order of 80 kilograms, while worldwide production is only a few kilograms per year, it is unlikely that enough could ever be accumulated by nonstate actors to produce an explosive fission device.

I don't know where to begin with the fairy tale that was the liquid bomb hoax at Heathrow on 9.8.2006.
I do recall one memorable day, very well spent, in the audience at Kingston Uni, listening to Nafeez Ahmed and Lt . Col Nigel Wylde, detailing the impossibility of this particular tale.
Billed as yet another, "just in time", "phew that was close" success, the upshot was, nursing mothers forced to test their bottled baby milk, restrictions on liquids aboard aircraft, oh, and the lovely scanners were introduced at airports.
Puzzling why no such measures were taken after the Bojinka episodes in 1994/ 5. I guess the machines were not quite ready to be sold back then.

April 5 — British authorities believe terror suspects arrested last week were planning to make a bomb that would include a highly toxic, easily obtained chemical called osmium tetroxide, ABCNEWS has learned.
Used primarily in laboratories for research, osmium tetroxide is known to attack soft human tissue and could blind or kill anyone who breathed its fumes. According to the New Jersey Department of Health, it is a colorless to pale yellow solid with a strong, unpleasant odor.
"It's a nasty piece of work," said Dave Siegrist, a bioterrorism expert at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies in Arlington, Va. "It irritates the eyes, lungs, nose and throat. It leads to an asthma-like death, what we call a 'dry-land drowning.' "
Scientists say if, for example, the bomb used in the 1993 World Trade Center attack had produced such fumes, they would have wiped out the first police and rescue workers on the scene.
"They become overwhelmed by fumes," said Jerry Hauer, an expert on biological and chemical terrorism and the former director of public health preparedness at the Department of Health and Human Services, describing what could have happened. "They can go blind. This is not a benign chemical. It is very nasty."
Eight British citizens of Pakistani descent were arrested and taken into custody when 700 police raided 24 locations in and around London on March 30.
Investigators say British authorities moved in when they learned from electronic intercepts the dangerous chemical was involved in the plot. They had been the tracking group's activities for several months.
According to sources, there was some indication the group in custody was targeting Gatwick airport, the British public transportation system and enclosed shopping areas. British authorities feared it had the potential to be one of the worst attacks ever against the United Kingdom.
Even though the arrests were made in the United Kingdom, authorities say the operation was being run out of Pakistan by a suspected al Qaeda figure.
"They are creative in their planning," said Hauer. "They continue to work around our systems."

This is the first time osmium tetroxide has been linked to possible terror use. It's sold, with few questions asked, on Internet sites, as are many industrial chemicals that could be equally as potent.
"You never see the supplier and the supplier never sees you," said Siegrist. "A package arrives on the doorstep a few days later."
U.S. officials say the likelihood of a chemical bomb is much greater than a biological and radiological one. Yet the United States has still not settled how to tighten restrictions on what are known as toxic industrial chemicals, which are well-known to al Qaeda bomb-makers and still easily available. |

A planned poison gas attack, with the London Underground as a likely target, has been foiled by the security agencies, it was claimed yesterday.
The plot allegedly involved detonating a combined chemical and explosive "dirty bomb", producing fumes that can choke victims in a confined place. The conspiracy was uncovered after British and United States intelligence intercepted telephone calls within this country, as well as calls to Pakistan.
As well as Tube trains, passenger terminals at London Gatwick and Heathrow airports are believed to have been in the list of targets. However, it is believed the plot was exposed before the alleged terror cells had reached the position to carry out an attack. Security sources said yesterday that the attack involved the use of a chemical called osmium tetroxide in an explosion. However, security experts last night questioned whether such a chemical could be used in an attack by terrorists.
The substance turns from solid to gas in confined space and is highly corrosive to eyes, skin tissue and lungs, producing a symptom called "dry land drowning". It is believed that a fertiliser-based explosive would have been part of the package.
The telephone calls between the alleged plotters were intercepted by GCHQ in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, and the US National Security Agency. Al-Qa'ida leaders have been warning of a chemical attack since the 1999 bombings of the World Trade Centre in New York, and handbooks have been produced on how to manufacture "dirty bombs".
However, so far, the organisation and its affiliates had only carried out attacks with conventional explosives, and some experts pointed out yesterday that osmium tetroxide, which has a legitimate scientific use, did not fit the usual profile of a typical chemical warfare agent. They said handling the chemical would be potentially dangerous for would-be bombmakers.
Professor Alastair Hay, professor of environmental toxicology at Leeds University, said the substance, known as a "rare catalyst" a chemical that speeds experiments, could be used to speed up an explosion.
But he added: "It would not be in the same category as some radioactive substance which would continue to emit radiation and cause a problem in terms of clean-up. This would be something present, like a heavy metal lead, in the environment. I don't think it would be a major hazard and clean-up would not be a major problem."
Dr Steve Simpson, a senior lecturer in chemistry at the University of Salford, who works with the substance, said: "If you get the vapour in your eyes, even a small amount, it can turn them brown or black and you could be permanently blinded. It is so volatile that one could be in appreciable danger just opening a bottle. If one had 10 grams and opened it up in a normal-sized room, within a couple of minutes it would cause people's eyes to stream. Some people might feel a bit tight in the chest. It would cause massive panic."

We were told that a plot to crash an aircraft into the Canary Wharf towers in east of the City of London was foiled on 20.11.2004
Yet another "just in time", "phew that was close" phantom terrorist plot that never was.
From 9.11 on 11.9.2001 to The Phantom Canary Wharf Aircraft Plot on 20.11.2004, inclusive is:

You may well have questions about the inclusive and interval variations of the date differences and perhaps this example may explain one of the reasons why certain dates are preferred to others.
For example, if the date of this event had been 21.11.2004 instead of 20.11.2004, then the normal date arithmetic result (d2-d1) would have been 1167 days instead of 1166.
1167 days is achievable by including the end date - hence "inclusive".
So why insist on 20.11 and not 21.11 ?
None of us would have been bothered or even noticed so what's going on ?
Well, 20.11 in mm.dd (US format only) is 1120
1120 = 343 + 777 = 7x7x7 + 777
So perhaps that explains the imperative, a series of 77 77 77 to 9/11 and a pair of 777 patterns neatly hidden within the mm.dd of the date.
The other reason, so often apparent, is that the event can relate to more than one root date.

Terror arrests follow paper tip-off
Four men are being questioned by UK police investigating a Sunday newspaper's claims that a group of businessmen were trying to buy radioactive material.
Three men were held on Friday after Met Police anti-terrorist branch officers targeted a hotel in Brent Cross, London.
The fourth was arrested later at his north London home. The arrests followed a tip-off from the News of the World.
A BBC correspondent said police had not found any radioactive or bomb-making material but that searches were ongoing.
The men have been arrested on suspicion of commissioning, preparing or instigating acts of terrorism.
BBC Home Affairs correspondent Margaret Gilmore said: "The allegation is that these men, who we understand are all businessmen, were trying to buy radioactive materials.
"The suspicion, and this is what the police are questioning them about now, is that they were trying to get hold of radioactive materials to sell them on to terrorists."
'Not highly significant'
She said although searches of houses and premises were still going on, police had not found any radioactive material or a "bomb in the making".
"They don't believe they have arrested highly significant people, on the other hand they have possibly stopped something in the making," she added.
The newspaper claimed it sent in an undercover reporter posing as a Muslim extremist following a tip-off that a Saudi sympathetic to "the Muslim cause" was willing to pay £300,000 for a kilo of powerful, radioactive "red mercury".
The chemical is said to have been developed by Russian scientists for "briefcase nuclear bombs", although scientists are divided over whether any actually exists.
According to the News of the World, meetings were held with gang members hoping to supply the radioactive material to their Middle Eastern buyer.
Police marksmen
Gary Thompson, associate editor of the News Of The World said the story followed covert investigations by its reporter Mazher Mahmood.
"He alerted police who made the arrests. We do not know what specific details there were of any targets (for bombs)," he said.
Police marksmen and surveillance teams surrounded the Holiday Inn hotel in Brent Cross on Friday and the arrests were made.
Police have 14 days to question the suspects, who are being questioned at Paddington Green police station in central London, after which they must be charged or released.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said on Saturday: "Several addresses have been searched. Some searches continue."
MI5 were also involved in the operation, it has been revealed.

Four men have been arrested on suspicion of terrorist offences following a sting operation organised by a Sunday newspaper, police said last night.
Three men were seized in a "pre-planned" operation by officers from the Metropolitan Police's anti-terrorist branch at a hotel in Brent Cross, north London on Friday. The fourth man was arrested later at his north London home.
The sting was set up after a News of the World reporter, posing as a "Muslim extremist", infiltrated a gang which was allegedly trying to buy radioactive material for an unnamed Saudi Arabian man.
The newspaper's investigations editor, Mazher Mahmood, went undercover after claiming to have received a tip-off that a Saudi sympathetic to "the Muslim cause" was willing to pay £300,000 for a kilogram of powerful, radioactive "Red Mercury". The chemical is said to have been developed by Soviet scientists for "briefcase nuclear bombs", but, said the newspaper, "scientists are divided over whether any actually exists".
The News of the World said: "We sent in our investigations editor Mazher Mahmood who, working undercover, convinced the gang he knew where to get hold of Red Mercury." Mahmood, known as "The Fake Sheikh" as he has often worn Saudi robes when working undercover, was allegedly told that the chemical would be used either "here in the UK or the USA".
A series of meetings were then held with the gang members including a merchant banker "who was on the look out for nuclear bomb-making material for a client in the Middle East", the newspaper claims. It called in Scotland Yard before the penultimate meeting. A final meeting was arranged at the Holiday Inn in Brent Cross on Friday. Police marksmen and surveillance teams surrounded the hotel and the gang was arrested.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Acting on information received from the News of the World on 24 September, officers from the Met's anti-terrorist branch arrested three men ... under section 41 of the Terrorism Act ... All four men have been taken into custody at a central London police station."
Mahmood has gained a high profile after a series of investigations. After his story on an alleged plot to kidnap Victoria Beckham and her sons in November 2002, five men were arrested. But it emerged the newspaper's informant, Florim Gashi, was paid £10,000 by the newspaper and the case against the alleged kidnappers collapsed.

Operation Overamp - Bridge to Chinatown Raid, Borough, London - 1.9.2006
A classic example of how to test a section of a new law.
Operation Overamp saw anti terror police raid the Bridge to Chinatown restaurant in Borough, London on 1.9.2006, over terrorist training.
The facsimile of Bibi Netanyahu's anti-terrorism strategy, aka, the Terrorism Act 2000, the UK's first ever permanent anti-terror laws, designed with help from the ubiquitous "terrorologist" and expert witness in trials, Dr Bruce Hoffman, of the RAND corporation and Prof Paul Wilkinson at St Andrews and part funded by CFR affiliate, Washington Policy and Analysis Inc, came into force on 19.2.2001.
TACT2000 is the UK's main anti-terrorism legislation and has been added to with various other acts since.
IMO, especially during the early days of any charges brought under new TACT legislation, the TACT2000 provisions should be viewed as the default, fall-back legislation, even when, for example TACT2006 charges are used, invariably there are also TACT2000 charges to use, just in case.
The Terrorism Act 2006 (TACT2006) received Royal Assent on 30.3.2006 and the majority of it's provisions came into force on that date.

Mr Faraz / Bakr worked at the Maktabah Al Ansaar bookshop in Birmingham.

This bookshop was originally raided in 1999 and again on 29.2.2000, way before anyone dreamed of planes being used as missiles (hey Condi ?) and way, way before the odious TACT2000 hit the streets let alone the new distibution & glorification offences which were enacted under TACT2006.
The bookshop was raided again as part of the WM CTU's effort to secure convictions in the beheading plot of 31 January 2007.
So, you can see that this arrest has a huge back story and deserves thoroughly researching as a subject on it's own.

Mr Faraz was subsequently charged on 1.2.2010 with 30 terrorism offences:

The dissemination / distribution charges are under TACT2006 and the possession charges under TACT2000
So, in case the distribution charges don't stick, then the TACT2000 posession charges provide the fallback position.
As you can see the distribution offence window for Mr Faraz opened on 13.4.2006, the very day that certain provisions of TACT2006 came into force.
The charge relating to 31 January 2007 is the date that 700 police officers and half the world's media swamped the streets of Birmingham, our TV sets and newspapers, over the alleged plot to kidnap and behead a serving British Muslim soldier. More on that later.
Fallback / possession charges:
From TACT2000 CIF on 19.2.2001 to being charged on 1.2.2010 is:
= 77 months, 77 weeks, 389 days
= 77 months, 77 weeks, P77 days > 77 77 77
Here's an interesting fact about the Maktabah Al Ansaar bookshop business, which I understand, at the time of Mr Faraz's arrest on 26.1.2010 was only operating on-line as the shop had closed after the raid in January 2007.
Apparently, the book that got Mr Dhiren Barot into all that trouble, allegedly written under the name of Esa Al-Hindi, called The Army of Madinah in Kashmir, was published by the Maktabah Al Ansar Publications - the very same bookshop business that was raided in 2000 and 2007.
Which makes for a very interesting link to Dhiren Barot's arrest on 3.8.2004:
