How Britain taught Arab police forces all they know
Campaigners raise questions about 'cosy relationship' as death toll mounts
By Jerome Taylor - Independent - Saturday, 19 February 2011
There was growing anger last night over the enmeshed relationship between authoritarian Gulf governments and the British military and police after weeks of democracy protests across the Arab world that met with violent state repression.

The riots are over, the people have spoken and the military promise that their rule will be short-lived - but not everyone is certain they will step down. The Army is the biggest military force in the Middle East and some estimate it makes up more than 10 per cent of the economy. Tariq Osman, author of 'Egypt on the Brink' does not believe that the military holding power is a sign of change. "People say the regime has fallen. I argue that the President fell; the regime has not." Many believe that the Army has the most to lose from moving to democracy. One protester says many lost confidence in them after they allowed lynch mobs into Tahrir square. Others however continue to revere the troops who were welcomed as heroes when the police left Cairo's streets. Hisham Kassem, a vocal opponent of Mubarek's regime, has complete faith that, "Egypt has changed", but until democracy actively comes protestors like Mohammed aren't going away. "If they try to do any snake work, we're gonna come right back," he threatens; "nothing will seep through the cracks".

Should that not be "takes up"? I've never heard of any army contributing to an economy before, not legally or without 'foreign assistance' anyway... ;-)

CIA Coup-College

Tony Cartalucci, Contributing Writer
February 19th, 2011

First noted by geopolitical analyst and historian Dr. Webster Tarpley, some suspicious similarities could be seen between the Egyptian unrest and another, known US-backed uprising in Serbia. Serbia’s Otpor, or the “resistance,” was funded to the tune of millions by the US National Endowment for Democracy.

Its signature clenched fist logo adorned flags, signboards, and t-shirts carried by the US State Department-laid Astro Turf until the ousting of Slobodan Milošević in 2000.

The exact same logo would turn up 11 years later across the Mediterranean Sea in the streets of Cairo, illustrating further the preposterous, foreign-backed nature of the Egyptian uprisings. Could it just be just a coincidence and Dr. Tarpley’s take mere speculative conjecture? Not even close..........

Do you expect them to riot for pro dictatorship and has the west's meddling being going on for centuries or not.

Although there will most likely be people trying to steer it in certain directions, could it not have come from the suppressed people.

Earthquake Shakes Up Suez Canal as Iran Warships Approach

by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu
Follow Israel news on and .

An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale shook up residents at the entrance to the Suez Canal early Monday morning, 48 hours before two Iranian ships, a frigate and a supply vessel, are expected to enter the canal.

The National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research reported that tremors from the 3 a.m. quake lasted for 27 minutes, but caused no damage.

The ships had originally been expected to enter the Suez today (Monday), but Egyptian officials announced the delay this morning, without explanation.

Iran inexplicably announced Sunday morning that two of its warships had crossed the Suez, a report that was thoroughly denied by Egyptian authorities. Iranian media did not mention the ships on Monday, and the false report may have been for local consumption.

No Iranian ship has been allowed to pass through the Suez Canal since Iran's 1979 overthrow of the Shah and Egypt's signing of a peace treaty with Israel the same year.

Egyptian-Iranian Rapprochement?
Egypt’s agreeing to allow Iranian ships to pass through the Suez is seen by many analysts as a signal that the new regime in Egypt is leaning towards ties with Iran, but Suez Canal officials have pointed out that an international convention requires it allow passage to all ships.Egypt has reportedly agreed to allow the Iranian boats to pass through the canal en route to Syria. The Obama administration is concerned about “what’s the cargo on board, where is it going, to whom, for what benefit," U.S. State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters. Iran has said that the ships are headed for Syria for training, Crowley commented, as laughter was heard in the audience: “My initial response to that would be that we’re highly skeptical of that claim.”

President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu have accused Iran of trying to exploit the crisis in Egypt to increase its influence in the Middle East.

“Iran wants to say to the world, to the United States, Israel and other countries in the Mideast that it has reached not only areas close to it but also farther away, including in the Mediterranean," Ephraim Kam of the Institute for National Security Studies in Israel told the Associated Press.

The Iranian maritime maneuver also signals it is prepared to protect the Hamas and Hizbullah terrorist organizations on Israel’s southern and northern borders.

Iran officials last month announced that its ships would be sailing through the Suez to gather intelligence, but analysts stress that the Islamic Republic’s ultimate goal is to establish Shi’ite dominance in the Muslim world, far beyond Lebanon and Syria.

Whoever toppled the murdering, torturing, thieving US/Israeli 'buddy', Mubarack, has done the Egyptian people a service.
Not that I expect much better from the military, who are the real arbiters of power, and who are also in the pockets of the US/Israelis (courtesy of 'AIPAC').

Yep, so 'they' also toppled Suharto of Indonesia; such a benign, humane, frugal 'leader' (installed by the USA, in a classic 'False Flag' incident); and though I haven't got time to go through all the links, the thread seems to be in support of the Shah of Iran! They forgot about Mobutu; grand fella, him, as well.

And to equate Aristide with Mubarack, a bit like the 'rumour' that Mubarack had a 'safe haven' in Venezuela.

For God's sake, Tony!

Not so much OTT, as blatant 'miss-info'.

Egyptians marching to Gaza border
Sun Mar 6, 2011 12:59AM
Share | Email | Print

Quote:
The border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt
Hundreds of Egyptians are marching to the country's border with the Gaza Strip to demand that it be opened.

They are currently in Al Arish, about 50 kilometers from Rafah.

Press TV correspondent Roshan Muhammed Salih is also in Al Arish, where he spoke to several of the Egyptian activists, who told him they plan to hold a demonstration on the border on Sunday, with the aim of entering the besieged territory.

Egypt has imposed a blockade on Gaza since the democratically elected Hamas government took control of the territory in 2007. Gaza is also blockaded by Israel -- a situation that international agencies and non-governmental groups say has led to a humanitarian crisis.

The initiative to open the Gaza border is the brainchild of the Tahrir4Gaza campaign, whose organizers say they want to test the extent to which Egypt has really changed since its revolution.

Ahmed El-Assy, the main campaign organizer, told Press TV, “The Mubarak regime collaborated with Israel to keep the Palestinians weak, but now he's been overthrown, so there's no need to maintain the status quo.”

El-Assy added that several days ago he was detained by the Egyptian authorities for launching the campaign. He said they tried to dissuade him from marching on the border, arguing that the timing was wrong.

“There's a lot of fear and intimidation, but we know that the Palestinian issue is an important one for Egyptians, and we need to keep the momentum up following the successful revolution,” he stated.

A group of Egyptians and foreigners set out from Cairo on Saturday morning heading toward the Rafah border. They had to pass through at least twelve military checkpoints and were detained at one of them for two hours. Eventually they were allowed to proceed to Al Arish, 50 kilometers from Rafah. Upon arriving in Al Arish, the locals welcomed them with open arms and promised to accompany them to Rafah on Sunday.

Another member of the Tahrir4Gaza campaign told Press TV, “If we are refused entry to Gaza, we are thinking about setting up a permanent camp at the border. This is a test of whether this really is the new Egypt, or whether the old Egypt remains.”

Well worth watching this old 3-hour BBC documentary which clearly shows how Britain, France and Israel conspired together. Very appropriate at this juncture, with the unrest across the Arab world, and certain 'regime changes' being planned:

http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/suez-very-british-crisis/#disqus_thread

Notice how the Egyptians had their aircraft lined up in rows in the open on the airfields, sitting ducks for a pre-emptive strike; they made precisely the same mistake later, in the 'Six-Day War'.

The U.S. colored revolution user manual for Egypt
2 March 2011

The United States had anticipated a revolution in Egypt for some time, even if they predicted it would occur at the death of their puppet, Hosni Mubarak. Consequently, they were standing ready to step in.

From the first week of demonstrations in Cairo, Washington detached a team from the Albert Einstein Institution. A manual, already used in other countries, was translated into Arabic and disseminated to shepherd demonstrators towards the Facebook and Twitter services set up the the State Department and the CIA.

The manual provides precise instructions regarding the itinerary of the marches. It contains diagrams and aerial views that differ from the aerial representations made by the Egyptians, who rarely use maps in any case. The aerial photos are credited, when in Egypt copyright rights are not respected.

The manual offers tips on how to dress for protection against tear gas, but displays a western model which overlooks local dress traditions.

On one of the illustrations, the character on the right was altered to show a veiled woman, whereas the central character was changed from a military into a policeman. A poster reads: "The police and the people against injustice. Long live Egypt". The message being put across was clearly one of popular unity and fraternity with the police, but the conjunction in Cairo was made with the army. Unwittingly, the revamping of the illustration reveals the haste and heedlessness with which the manual was adapted to Egypt.....

The toppling of President Mubarak in Egypt is now turning up the heat on Cairo's gas supply deal with Israel. Egyptian officials are probing allegations the agreement was a scam, orchestrated by the Mubarak family. Cairo's reportedly considering raising gas export prices to Israel - or even suspending supplies altogether.

Israel gives Noble Energy green light to develop Noa field – steal Gaza’s natural gas reserves

Minister of National infrastructures Dr. Uzi Landau has instructed Noble Energy to develop the Noa North gas reserve in the Noa license. Sources inform “Globes” that the final decision to develop the field came after operator Noble Energy convinced Ministry of National Infrastructures experts that he field did not spill over into other parts of the reserve, which is partly under the jurisdiction of the Palestinian Authority in the economic zone of the Gaza Strip.
Up to now, Landau has refrained from ordering development of the Noa field, fearing that this would lead to diplomatic problems vis-à-vis the Palestinian Authority. “Globes” reported in the past that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the matter with President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas.
Noble Energy holds 47% of Noa, the other 53% being held by Delek Group Ltd. (TASE: DLEKG), mainly through Delek Drilling LP (TASE: DEDR.L) and Avner Oil and Gas LP (TASE: AVNR.L).

Don’t shoot the protester! Egypt’s army overdoes peacekeeping

Quote:
The behavior of Egypt’s army since taking over from the ousted Hosni Mubarak is causing anger amongst former Tahrir Square protesters. Many doubt whether the generals can, or are willing to, to bring about the democratic changes so many died for.
The 18-day uprising that brought about Mubarak’s downfall awoke the whole nation. Protests and demonstrations became all too common. Amnesty International estimates at least 840 people were killed and more than 6,000 wounded during the protests that forced the tyrant to step down.
But even in a Mubarak-free country, there is room for fear and frustration.
Reda Radian Malak’s brother was among 15 young men killed in a violent religious strife that hit Cairo just weeks after the revolution. Egyptian Christians and Muslims clashed following a report that a young Christian woman was kidnapped and held in a Coptic church after she married a Muslim and converted to Islam without divorcing her Coptic husband, as there is no divorce allowed in the Coptic religion.
But even though Malak’s brother was a Christian Copt, it was not a Muslim who killed him.
“An army sniper shot my brother dead,” says Reda Radian Malak, “The bullet went through his forehead and came out on the other side. I saw it. No one here has a weapon like this. Only soldiers do.”
Reda blames the army for taking life of his younger brother and the revolution for giving the army so much power.
“We expected the army to intervene, to protect people, to stop violence. But instead they started to kill people themselves. We did not expect that at all,” adds Reda.
The people of Egypt did not expect many things. They did not expect their economy to collapse. They did not imagine the path to a free and democratic society would be such a bloody and painful one. They just wanted to be free of dictatorship and did not expect at all to find themselves in another one – a military one.
“The power in Egypt now since Mubarak is out rests firmly in the hands of the military chiefs staff. They were sitting literally in the Pentagon war room, when the Twitter revolution started. They are running the show. There has been no displacement of that military power. But this is a Washington installed…totalitarian democracy,” says author and researcher William Engdahl.
The people who stood on Tahrir Square were jubilant. The regime that oppressed them for more than three decades was gone. Mubarak would soon face justice for what he has done.
But months on, the revolutionary euphoria is gone as well. And people are asking themselves whether it was really worth the hundreds of victims and whether they really got a better country.
“Egypt is at the crossroads,” says Montaser El Zayat, an Islamic affairs analyst and lawyer. “It can go towards chaos or democracy. The worse scenario would be if the army continues to rule and the country sinks into the blood from a civil war. It is up to the people to decide.”
With the nation's interim leaders reviewing the jailing of at least 7,000 people by Egypt's military rulers, it is clear the Tahrir Square revolution now may be a part of history, but the fight is far from over.

Egypt military to try journalists over torture claim
By Mahmud Hams | AFP
Military prosecutors in Egypt are to try a newspaper editor and a journalist over comments in an article on torture attributed to a military official, a military source said on Sunday.
Journalist Adel Hammuda and editor Rasha Azab from the independent weekly Al-Fagr were questioned by the prosecutor on Sunday and will appear before a military tribunal at a date yet to be determined, the source said.
Azab told AFP that the article in question contained first-hand accounts from people claiming they had been tortured by the military, as well as statements from an army officer.
Military sources said the officer in question denied making the statements published, which he said were "unfounded."
If convicted, Hammuda could face a jail term and Azab could be fined.
Several journalists have been interrogated by the army recently over their work, prompting the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) to say Egypt's military is censoring and harassing the press.
The Egyptian Organisation of Human Rights on Sunday denounced measures taken by the military against journalists, calling them "a new violation of freedom of opinion and expression."
"They are also a violation of the achievements of the January 25 revolution," the group said, and urged the army to stop referring civilians to military courts and summoning journalists.
The military has denied that it censors the media.
Power was transferred to the armed forces by former president Hosni Mubarak upon his ouster on February 11 after mass protests against his 30-year rule.

Egypt withdraws ambassador to Israel over police deaths
Protest at the deaths of five officers reportedly shot by Israeli forces chasing down Palestinian militants after Eilat attack
David Batty and agencies - guardian.co.uk, Saturday 20 August 2011 10.37 BST
Egypt says it will recall its ambassador to Israel in protest at the deaths of five police officers, reportedly shot by Israeli forces.
Cairo said it held Israel "politically and legally responsible" for the incident on Thursday, and demanded an investigation and an apology.
Israel has pledged to investigate the deaths, which Egyptian officials say happened during a shoot out between Israeli forces and suspected Palestinian militants.
The violence began on Thursday when gunmen attacked buses near the Israeli Red Sea resort of Eilat, killing eight people.
Egyptian officials say Israeli forces chased the suspected militants across the border, and a number of people were killed – including the police officers.
The decision to withdraw Yasser Reda was announced as thousands of protesters gathered outside the Israeli embassy in Cairo for a second day, demanding the expulsion of the Israeli envoy.

The Egyptian army are not bringing in democracy they are trying to spark sectarian violence to destabilise in the run up to the elections.

This is raw footage taken by me and stitched together by Mostafa Hussein.

It shows the march at its beginning in Shubra, the 1st attack at the Shubra underpass and the final assault by the army at Maspero, where protesters were shot and crushed by APCs.

The video includes GRAPHIC scenes of the dead, and concludes with the funeral in the Abbaseyya Cathedral the next day.
