Traditionally known as F*ckFBIFriday, this weekend's eve turned into F*ckCIAFriday, as hacktivists downed the official website for the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States cia.gov.
At approximately 3:10 p.m. Eastern time one of twitter accounts related to the hackers' group announced "cia.gov DOWN. #UMAD?#Anonymous."
The CIA website became the latest victim in a series of attacks conducted by the elusive group of hackers against US law enforcement agencies and copyright holders. As RT reported earlier, Anonymous took credit for crashing the websites of the US Department of Homeland Security, which was quickly revived, and the FBI.
The CIA seems to be less prepared for fighting Anonymous than other agencies. If the work of dhs.gov was revived in mere minutes, the CIA's site was still down even hours after the attack. One of the twitter accounts affiliated with Anonymous explained the reasons of the attack: "We do it for the lulz," referring to the popular online abbreviation "for laughs."
In previous occasions Anonymous has orchestrated humiliating assaults with massive distributed denial of services attacks.
The technique also known as a DDoS, is a concentrated effort by multiple individuals to make a network busy to its intended users. The end results in a server overload
Even though DDoS attacks are a violation of the Internet Architecture Boards’s proper use policy, it has become an effective tool for Anonymous to spread online mayhem.
Two weeks ago, the online group also released the audio of a conference call between the US Federal Bureau of Investigation and Britain’s Scotland Yard counterpart targeting members of the largely untraceable group. It was done as part of the F*ckFBIFriday campaign.
Along with the secret audio leak, numerous sites fell prey to Anonymous’ crippling assault including several entertainment industry giants and government sites.
The websites for the US Department of Justice and Universal Music Group were among the first to go, with the sites for US Copyright Office, Warner Music, BMI, and RIAA following suit shortly after.
These attacks were in retaliation for a raid on Megaupload, where the feds raided the file sharing service site which led to more than 20 warrants being served and several arrests internationally.
This is not the first time Anonymous takes down cia.gov. In June, as part of a 51-day-long hacking spree, the Anonymous affiliated group LulzSec took down the CIA's site for a few hours. The reason was the same as today: "For the lulz."

ACTA is an international trade agreement negotiated by the European Union, the United States, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Australia, Mexico, Morocco, Singapore as well as a few other countries, whose aim is to enforce copyright and tackle counterfeited goods (hence its acronym: Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement).

With its PirateBox, Jean Debaeckerfait the dream of a wireless network to the leg
Thursday, 08.03.2012, 5:17 - SEBASTIAN BY BANKS
Inspired by the PirateBox New Yorker David Darts, Jeana hacked the P.Box to share files under copyright.
| THE FACE OF THE NEWS |
A parallel network, free and anonymous, off the internet, Google and social networks, where the plot is law. A utopia that computer enthusiasts and apostles of the free flow of ideas apply to achieve. Debaecker Jean, a teacher of Lille III, just make its stone tinkering "first PirateBox Lille", portable tool for wireless sharing. Eh?
A small white square, no thicker than a box of cashews, struck a skull of filibuster. John puts his Debaecker PirateBox on a table, between his cup of tea and a biscuit. It plugs the device connects to the USB key. That's it. Prof. de Lille III has created a wireless LAN. Within a radius of thirty meters, while smartphone, tablet, computer with internet connection illico fall on the home page of its PirateBox. With free access to its data. Depending on the mood, there pick or it brings to content (royalty free is better). In the library of John, which has both its course materials with a Policy Esperanto, his students have added iPhone apps or chunks of Dodelijk Roken Is ...
Orangutans in wi-fi
"I have no way of knowing that connects, explains the PhD student. Everything is anonymous. It is not traced, logged ... "A loophole in flicage rampant on the internet under the veneer of deceptive freedom. "Whether it's on Amazon, Facebook or Google +, our purchases, our tastes are stored, and used this information without you knowing. This is what I explained to the students in my classes. "That is why this affable thirty," or geek or computer ", but strong" libertarian idea that networks are an alternative way forward ", has made up his mind to mess himself a PirateBox.
Thank you that? Thank you "orangutans". Story toughen his students to communication tools, John came up with them a project to raise awareness about apes. But how can "sustain" this work? The issue will fuel interest, old John for data sharing in public spaces. First option: "Use of Dead Drops. "A strange concept phosphorus by a New York artist: USB sticks stuffed with free content and sealed in walls, facades, in the street. Lille has his own, at Moulins, cemented by the activists of Build Up. "But who walks around with his PC under the arm? "Notes John. The wi-fi, it, ignoring the physical restraint. "We thought that an American was necessarily ever thought," jokes the prof. Bingo: Another New Yorker, David Darts, has cobbled together in 2010 sharing a wireless terminal. Codename: PirateBox. Reworked, refined, lightened the system led to the router riquiqui, five centimeters by five, adopted by John. "It costs 30 E, and with the tutorial (guide) of Darts, which I translated into French, it takes ten minutes to install. Aberrant ease. "In the key (USB), saving a replay of the principle of free trade. "The idea is to get people to do their turn. In their building, their dead, their neighborhood, they share files. "A sort of celebration of neighbors sauce peer-to-peer, away from Big Brother and the information superhighway very controlled. "I had messages from young surprisingly sensitive to heavy policing of the Internet. That's what they have back, it portends a generation that does not throw body and soul on the web, but ask the right questions. "Where is freedom when China's net, randomly, the screen through a relentless censorship? Reappears the dream of alternative networks, emancipated, only the hands of users. Jean expects one thing: that his computer hangs signal PirateBox another. The first link in a canvas weaving parallel remains. •

US authorities are hoping to have Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom and three of his co-workers extradited after filing official papers to get them on American soil to face charges of breaching copyright.
Legal firm Crown Law is handling the case on behalf of the US, confirming it had filed papers in the North Shore District Court, the New Zealand Herald reported.
The news came over a month after Megaupload was shut down and Dotcom, otherwise known as Kim Schmitz, arrested. Three other company executives were apprehended.
February saw Dotcom freed from jail by a New Zealand Court, which placed him under effective house arrest. It was feared he would attempt to flee to his home country Germany to avoid extradition to the US.
Prior to that, Dotcom had been in custody since his arrest during a raid on 20 January on his mansion outside Auckland by local police acting on a US warrant.
An extradition hearing is expected to take place in August.
Dotcom, along with associates Mathias Ortmann, Bran van der Kolk and Finn Batato, face charges of conspiring to commit racketeering, conspiring to commit money-laundering, copyright infringement and aiding and abetting copyright infringement.
It has been alleged their copyrighting activity was worth $500 million. US prosecutors have claimed their activity was a "mega conspiracy."
Dotcom has claimed US authorities had singled out emails and other evidence in a misleading manner.

Temporary tunes: Bruce Willis to sue Apple over music ownership

Action movie legend Bruce Willis is taking Apple to court over his music collection. The actor wants his daughters to inherit several gigabytes of downloaded music after his death.
The actor wants to ensure that Rumer, Scout and Tallulah Willis become the next owners of their father's music collection after he passes away.
But according to the tech giant's rules, ownership of his tunes will return to Apple, as they are in fact borrowed, not than owned.
Downloading music through iTunes doesn’t actually buy the music, which means it can’t be given to someone else or resold.
"Lots of people will be surprised on learning all those tracks and books they have bought over the years don't actually belong to them," solicitor Chris Walton told the Daily Mail. "It's only natural you would want to pass them on to a loved one. The law will catch up, but ideally Apple and the like will update their policies and work out the best solution for their customers."
The 57-years old actor spent a significant amount of money on his collection, including classics the likes of Led Zeppelin.
If the issue reaches court, other users of Apple's music services could also benefit.

No shooting at protest? Police may block mobile devices via Apple
Published: 05 September, 2012, 14:12
Onlookers take photographs with their phones as members of the Occupy Boston movement are joined by students from local colleges and universities demonstrating against the cost of education in downtown Boston (Reuters/Brian Snyder)
Apple has patented a piece of technology which would allow government and police to block transmission of information, including video and photographs, from any public gathering or venue they deem “sensitive”, and “protected from externalities.”
In other words, these powers will have control over what can and cannot be documented on wireless devices during any public event.
And while the company says the affected sites are to be mostly cinemas, theaters, concert grounds and similar locations, Apple Inc. also says “covert police or government operations may require complete ‘blackout’ conditions.”
“Additionally,” Apple says,” the wireless transmission of sensitive information to a remote source is one example of a threat to security. This sensitive information could be anything from classified government information to questions or answers to an examination administered in an academic setting.”
The statement led many to believe that authorities and police could now use the patented feature during protests or rallies to block the transmission of video footage and photographs from the scene, including those of police brutality, which at times of major events immediately flood news networks and video websites.
Apple patented the means to transmit an encoded signal to all wireless devices, commanding them to disable recording functions.
Those policies would be activated by GPS, and WiFi or mobile base-stations, which would ring-fence ("geofence") around a building or a “sensitive area” to prevent phone cameras from taking pictures or recording video.
Apple may implement the technology, but it would not be Apple's decision to activate the “feature” – it would be down governments, businesses and network owners to set such policies, analyzes ZDNet technology website.
Having invented one of the most sophisticated mobile devices, Apple now appears to be looking for ways to restrict its use.
“As wireless devices such as cellular telephones, pagers, personal media devices and smartphones become ubiquitous, more and more people are carrying these devices in various social and professional settings,” it explains in the patent. “The result is that these wireless devices can often annoy, frustrate, and even threaten people in sensitive venues.”
The company’s listed “sensitive” venues so far include mostly meetings, the presentation of movies, religious ceremonies, weddings, funerals, academic lectures, and test-taking environments.

Raytheon says it has not sold the software – named Riot, or Rapid Information Overlay Technology – to any clients.
But the Massachusetts-based company has acknowledged the technology was shared with US government and industry as part of a joint research and development effort, in 2010, to help build a national security system capable of analysing "trillions of entities" from cyberspace.
The power of Riot to harness popular websites for surveillance offers a rare insight into controversial techniques that have attracted interest from intelligence and national security agencies, at the same time prompting civil liberties and online privacy concerns.
The sophisticated technology demonstrates how the same social networks that helped propel the Arab Spring revolutions can be transformed into a "Google for spies" and tapped as a means of monitoring and control.
Using Riot it is possible to gain an entire snapshot of a person's life – their friends, the places they visit charted on a map – in little more than a few clicks of a button.
In the video obtained by the Guardian, it is explained by Raytheon's "principal investigator" Brian Urch that photographs users post on social networks sometimes contain latitude and longitude details – automatically embedded by smartphones within "exif header data."
Riot pulls out this information, showing not only the photographs posted onto social networks by individuals, but also the location at which the photographs were taken.
"We're going to track one of our own employees," Urch says in the video, before bringing up pictures of "Nick," a Raytheon staff member used as an example target. With information gathered from social networks, Riot quickly reveals Nick frequently visits Washington Nationals Park, where on one occasion he snapped a photograph of himself posing with a blonde haired woman.
"We know where Nick's going, we know what Nick looks like," Urch explains, "now we want to try to predict where he may be in the future."
Riot can display on a spider diagram the associations and relationships between individuals online by looking at who they have communicated with over Twitter. It can also mine data from Facebook and sift GPS location information from Foursquare, a mobile phone app used by more than 25 million people to alert friends of their whereabouts. The Foursquare data can be used to display, in graph form, the top 10 places visited by tracked individuals and the times at which they visited them.
The video shows that Nick, who posts his location regularly on Foursquare, visits a gym frequently at 6am early each week. Urch quips: "So if you ever did want to try to get hold of Nick, or maybe get hold of his laptop, you might want to visit the gym at 6am on a Monday."
Mining from public websites for law enforcement is considered legal in most countries. In February last year, for instance, the FBI requested help to develop a social-media mining application for monitoring "bad actors or groups".
However, Ginger McCall, an attorney at the Washington-based Electronic Privacy Information Centre, said the Raytheon technology raised concerns about how troves of user data could be covertly collected without oversight or regulation.
"Social networking sites are often not transparent about what information is shared and how it is shared," McCall said. "Users may be posting information that they believe will be viewed only by their friends, but instead, it is being viewed by government officials or pulled in by data collection services like the Riot search."
Raytheon, which made sales worth an estimated $25bn (£16bn) in 2012, did not want its Riot demonstration video to be revealed on the grounds that it says it shows a "proof of concept" product that has not been sold to any clients.
Jared Adams, a spokesman for Raytheon's intelligence and information systems department, said in an email: "Riot is a big data analytics system design we are working on with industry, national labs and commercial partners to help turn massive amounts of data into useable information to help meet our nation's rapidly changing security needs.
"Its innovative privacy features are the most robust that we're aware of, enabling the sharing and analysis of data without personally identifiable information [such as social security numbers, bank or other financial account information] being disclosed."
In December, Riot was featured in a newly published patent Raytheon is pursuing for a system designed to gather data on people from social networks, blogs and other sources to identify whether they should be judged a security risk.
In April, Riot was scheduled to be showcased at a US government and industry national security conference for secretive, classified innovations, where it was listed under the category "big data – analytics, algorithms."
According to records published by the US government's trade controls department, the technology has been designated an "EAR99" item under export regulations, which means it "can be shipped without a licence to most destinations under most circumstances". _________________ 'Come and see the violence inherent in the system.

AP Twitter account hacked, 'explosions at White House' tweet crashes DOW
Quote:
A hacker compromised the main Twitter account for the Associated Press on Tuesday, creating momentary chaos across the world by inaccurately posting that US President Barack Obama was injured by an explosion in the White House.
Just after 1 p.m. EST, a message sent by the account @AP read “Breaking: Two Explosions in the White House and Barack Obama is injured.”
Journalists inside the White House at the time of the tweet quickly refuted the claim and reported that no blast had been felt at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The AP announced from a separate account moments later that the initial tweet was not true and that hackers wrote and published the incorrect claim.
"The @AP Twitter account has been suspended after it was hacked. The tweet about an attack on the White House was false," the news agency announced.
White House spokesman Jay Carney went on the air moments later to confirm that the president had not been harmed by any reported explosion.
“The president is fine,” Carney said. “I was just with him.”
Immediately after the fake tweet went live, both the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 took drastic nosedives before quickly rebounding.
The Syrian Electronic Army is taking credit for the compromise, but have yet to provide evidence. Just days earlier, though, Twitter suspended that group’s main account after they took responsibility for hacking @60Minute, @48Hours and @CBSDenver — three accounts all registered to CBS News.
With Tuesday’s hack, whoever is responsible again targeted multiple accounts. The Associated Press has confirmed that, their @AP_Mobile account has been compromise as well.
Mike Baker, an Olympia, Washington-based reporter for AP, says on Twitter that his company’s main account was hacked “less than an hour after some of us received an impressively disguised phishing email.” According to a report published Tuesday in the New York Times, a spokesperson for AP also confirms that malware has infected a number of the company’s computers in recent days.
The Associated Press’ main Twitter account is followed by nearly 2 million social media users.
hmmm False Flags???

Mark Dice, a video blogger who became famous for his man-on-the-street interviews where he allows average Americans to display their utter lack of awareness and mental acuity, has had his primary Youtube channel summarily removed for “severe violations of our community guidelines,” despite the fact that Dice is well-known for keeping the language on his videos clean and refraining from any type of hate speech.
YouTube has not supplied any further information about the “violations.”
Dice had over 800 videos on the channel, and millions of viewers.

Interesting film about Bormann, not Goering!
Yes, Bormann was helped, it seems mainly by the British MI6 and COPP, to escape from under Russian noses.
John Ainsworth Davis wrote the Op JB book al about it and Paul Manning's Martin Bormann, Nazi In Exile tells the rest of the tale of how Bormann created 750 companies from his home in South America in which to invest laundered Nazi loot and appoint ex SS staff to run them.

Pro-Internet champion Julia Reda has set out a positive roadmap1 for how to bring more of the Web we love to more people around the world.
But Jean-Marie Cavada, a chair of a powerful committee in the EU Parliament, along with publishing industry lobbyists, have been working hard to insert their link censorship scheme into the process.
Cavada is the opposite of pro-Internet. He’s trying to ram a backwards censorship package with more than 90 amendments2 into this positive roadmap.
On Cavada’s Internet, some of your favourite websites will have to pay a ‘link tax’ just for pointing to information freely available elsewhere.
He thinks that old publishing companies making a quick buck is more important than access to information and your freedom of expression.
The key vote on Internet censorship powers is in just a few days: Speak out today, and send Cavada’s plan back to the Internet dark ages, where it belongs.
Powerful publishing companies are looking for kickbacks at the expense of our fundamental freedoms, and Cavada is their main man.
Get this: he even tried to scrub the input from Internet users from this process.3 He then tried to block a UN free expression expert from talking to key decision-makers about the problems with his restrictive plan.4 Who does that?
We’ve already seen how disastrous this ‘link tax’ can be. Late last year Google News completely shut down their Spanish site over this backwards legislation.5 We need to stop this before it spreads any further, and even more of the Web is affected.6
Let’s show Cavada that we’re onto him, and that we’ll stand up for the Internet and a more connected future.
Here’s the recap: Julia Reda’s plan takes a firm stand against this ‘link tax,’ supporting our right to freedom of expression and recognizing how integral the Internet has become to exercising these fundamental freedoms.
Jean-Marie Cavada’s plan will mean you have less control over what you see and do online, and will force your favourite online services to pay to link to freely available content.
PS: We need to make sure that Cavada hears our message loud and clear. And the more people who share this action, the easier that will be. Can you take a moment to share on Facebook and Twitter today?

Has anyone else noticed RT videos taking ages to load? Perhaps they have been put on the 'slow' internet stream? _________________ 'And he (the devil) said to him: To thee will I give all this power, and the glory of them; for to me they are delivered, and to whom I will, I give them'. Luke IV 5-7.
