|
|
MI5 was aware of some of the suspects detained following the Glasgow and London terror car bombings prior to the attacks, it has emerged.
A number of the people being detained had appeared on the MI5 database.
Whitehall sources said that the Security Service had established "linkages" with a number of the individuals although it was not clear how much was known about them.
Nevertheless the sources said that MI5 had been able to pass on valuable information to the police which had helped to speed up their operation.
"It has taken a while but it appears that there are some linkages which refer to some of the individuals that have been detained," one source said.
"As a result of these linkages we have been able to assist the police in their investigations and to help speed up some of the investigations."
Eight people have been arrested in connection with the car bomb attacks, all of whom have links with the National Health Service.
Seven of the suspects are believed to be doctors or trainee doctors while the one woman under arrest is a trained laboratory researcher.
A man arrested at Brisbane Airport was identified as Dr Mohammed Haneef, 27, who once worked at hospitals in Cheshire.
Another man, also a doctor with links to Cheshire, is also being questioned by police in Australia.
The doctor was named in Australian newspaper reports as Mohammed Asif Ali, a near neighbour of Dr Haneef. He has not been arrested.
Anti-terror police believe all the main suspects are now being held.
Details of the link between the arrested men and women and the medical profession has sent shockwaves through the health industry.
Dr Hamish Meldrum, of the British Medical Association, said: "Like others we were shocked to hear of the recent attempted bombings.
"The news that members of a caring profession may be involved in these atrocities was even more appalling.
"Overseas doctors have made an invaluable contribution to the NHS over the years and it would be dreadful if the trust that exists between patients and doctors, whatever their background, was harmed by these events."
Dr Haneef, who is working as a registrar at the Gold Coast Hospital, was detained while trying to board a plane to India with a one-way ticket.
He is one of two doctors held by police as part of the terror probe linked to the Halton Hospital in Runcorn.
The second doctor is a 26-year-old man arrested in the Lime Street area of Liverpool on Saturday.
Doctors from the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, Scotland, and the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in Stoke-on-Trent have also been arrested.
Two trainee doctors were arrested at the Royal Alexandra Hospital where a number of searches and controlled explosions have been carried out.
Dr Mohammed Asha, 26, who was arrested with his wife, Marwa Asha, 26, a laboratory researcher, on the M6 motorway, worked at the Stoke-on-Trent hospital.
One man critically injured in the car bomb attack on Glasgow Airport is being treated at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
The Muslim Council of Britain issued a condemnation of the "barbarity" of the attacks.
Secretary-general Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari said: "Let us be absolutely clear about this, that those who seek to deliberately kill or maim innocent people are the enemies of all of us."

one of them worked in a lab. it seems this is all leading to the possibility of a staged/or real biological attack.
it dos'nt take much working out really, lab worker and doctors. |

Terror suspects 'known to MI5'
In the hypothesis that this was a false flag MI5 attack, this story can be interpreted as an attempt by MI5 to avoid strong criticism which might arise if they claimed to have had no knowledge of the perpetrators.
They are basically saying that they were on the trail and they expected such attacks, but perhaps implying that the sheer number of these "jihadis" makes it impossible to stop all of them, or that their resources are still insufficient to have prevented them. _________________ "Nothing can trouble you but your own imagination." ~ Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

What I find so odd is that it was so bungled, deliberately perhaps? In this respect it is reminiscent of the 21st July 2005 "attacks".
No one was killed; there was one report of someone having a leg injury. I have been told by "a source" that MI5 don't like to kill people.
It's all smoke and mirrors. |

This letter from Elias in Iceland to the UK press
Unethical media coverage on UK events
Western media publish daily news and commentaries about the alleged terrorist events in the UK. These writings have all in common to designate innocent persons, who nobody has proven guilty, as terrorists. Some commentators go even further by speculating about the alleged psychology of medical doctors who apparently engage in terrorism, as if the guilt of the detainees (most of whom are medical doctors or medical students) had been proved. It appears that Western journalists have no qualms anymore in attributing evil to Muslims because lives and dignity of Muslims appear of no consequence to them. Such racist attitude is inacceptable.
Hardly any commentator has mentioned that the accused, or their lawyers, have not been heard. We only have heard one side of the story. What kind of journalism is this? Can anyone draw conclusions about their guilt, let alone speculate about their motives, before listening to their side of the story? Should they be cleared of any guilt, how will the media repair the tort?
The aim of terrorist acts (as distinct from common crime) is to draw attention to a political goal. It makes no sense for those who seek a political or religious goal to place a bomb without address and message. To arbitrary kill a few passerby is certainly a criminal act, but it does not make political sense. To create public panic for its own sake has no more purpose than shouting "fire" in a full theater. The recent events in the UK were not accompanied by a political or religious announcement. From a Muslim or Arab perspective these acts are meaningless and counter-productive. Those who gain by such acts are those who wish to sow distrust towards Muslims and Arabs and prepare the ground for further wars against Muslim or Arab nations. It is among such constituencies that the masterminds of all unclaimed and unsolved "terrorist" acts committed in the West should be searched.

I agree xmasdale, the bungling and framing are so similar.
The public in general are pleading to lose more personal liberties in order to be free.
anti islamophobia has reached unprecedented levels of hyperboil hysteria.
amazing what half a dozen gas canisters and 6 oz of roundhead nails can achieve.
now increase my taxes so those guardians of my freedom, MI5 and 6 can be fully funded please Gordy. |
