|
|
Just received this from the online BBC complaints department after my complaint that the mainstream news had not picked up on the fact that the Iranians will be trading in Euros for their oil as of 20 March (not May as Mr Carberry writes).
| Quote: | Dear Mr Walker
Thank you for your e-mail regarding BBC News.
I note your claims that Iran will begin selling their oil in euros from around 20 May and appreciate that you are unhappy that the BBC has not reported this story.
May I begin by stating that the choice of news stories to report in our programmes is frequently very difficult as editorial staff always have more news reports than can be fitted into the time available. Their choice has to be selective and no matter how carefully such decisions are made, they are always aware that some people may disagree with them. Unlike newspapers, news programmes do not have the luxury of the inside pages or specialist sections that enable newspapers to carry a wide range of reports.
However, I do acknowledge your concerns and can assure you that your comments on this matter will be fully registered and made available to news editors and indeed senior management within the BBC. Feedback of this nature helps us when making decisions about future BBC programmes and services and your views will most certainly play a part in this process.
For your reference, the latest news headlines and in-depth articles from the Middle East can be found at:

You can also watch the latest edition of 'Newsnight' and read the editor's column at:

Thank you again for taking the time to contact the BBC.
Regards
Jonathan Carberry

I just sent a polite reply pointing out the guy's mistake over the date and by immediate return I received this. They certainly don't make things easy.

Thank you for your response - please note the Iranian Oil Bourse opens 20 March not 20 May as you put in your response. It is imminent and that is what makes the BBC's lack of interest so surprising.
Regards
Justin Walker

Blairs Bullshitting Corporation...
I have also been hoping to hear even one mention of this event that is surely a little more significant than that stolen penguin story or whatever other 'news' they deem more important... The one-sided reporting of the Iran situation is a disgrace. If they merely cut the mantra repetition they would have a lot more time in which to cover more stories...but that wouldnt suit 'us' would it.
That pre-formatted reply policy came into force at a rather convienient time...
Ahhhh pure coincidence of course.
I'll be interested to see what transpires when/if you attempt there alternate routes.
Just tried myself by clicking the link they gave ya:

We're sorry - the page you requested is not available or may have moved.
this could be because: blabla
weird...
If they'd just said "we dont really care what you think, please shut up and go down the pub or something" it would have been more honest.
Mike. |
