School reforms boss replaced

A controversial education chief has been ousted from his job after 10 years at the forefront of Tony Blair's school reforms.

Sir Cyril Taylor was replaced this week as chairman of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, which oversees the drive to boost the private sector's role in state education.

His involvement in schools policy stretches back many years and he has acted as a key adviser to both Labour and Conservative ministers.

But his often outspoken views have attracted sharp criticism from teachers.

After the surprise announcement of his departure, Sir Cyril said: "The trust has played a crucial and important role over the past 20 years in helping to raise standards in English secondary schools. I am delighted to have had the opportunity through the trust to contribute to that achievement. The trust will continue to have my wholehearted support and has my very best wishes for its future success."

The announcement followed a review of the trust's corporate governance arrangements that saw a new board of 12 appointed to replace the 40-strong council.

Sir Cyril, who was chairman of the trust for 20 years, remains on the board.

But the board elected Sir James Hill as the new chairman to replace Sir Cyril at a meeting on Tuesday.

Sir James, a successful business figure who was previously deputy chair of the trust, said he was "honoured" by his election.

"I'm succeeding Sir Cyril Taylor, a man who has made an outstanding contribution to the education sector as a whole and the trust in particular," he said. "He has been a driving force behind city technology colleges, specialist schools and, more recently, trust schools and academies."

The headmaster's conference showed their feelings about his statement last week that these were 17,000 'inadequate' teachers in the state system.

True or false...that is not the effing point. He and his cohorts have made teachers' jobs impossible in many of the hardest schools.

Good riddance.....you horrible, destructive, arrogant masonic pr*ck (I've no evidence of the masonry...but he has been the top man and been pushing their long-term universal 'control' agenda with despicable enthusiasm)
