WAC Ireland - Help Save Europe!
http://www.wiseupjournal.com/?p=79

We believe in every country governing themselves by the people, for the people. Politicians will mislead you into believing this is 'isolationism', and some unscrupulous ones might use fear by telling you your county's economy will not do well if you don't handover power in this new EU treaty/constitution. But that is not so, being sovereign does not mean you can't trade and co-operate with other countries and have a successful economy. At the moment three of the richest countries in the world: Norway, Switzerland and Iceland are non-EU members. In these countries the people are in control of their destinies, help Ireland vote no. Ireland is the only one out of the 27 allowed vote and the only one that can keep your country free.

Our pro EU politicians in Government are going to spend millions to manufacture a yes vote. Our organisation We Are Change Ireland has decided to focus our efforts on countering the yes vote propaganda and we are determined to make the public aware of what is at stake, the Irish constitution that our grandfathers fought for, our freedom and the freedom of all the other EU members.

We need all the support we can get. Donations will go towards banners, stickers, badges, street actions, posters, fliers, advertisements, phoning radio stations, travel by bus to other Irish cities, and any new ideas that will be effective in stopping a yes vote. We are digging money out of our own pockets at the moment, it all adds up fast. We will continue fighting for this great cause to the end by any effective means possible while using every cent wisely. You can help us gain momentum and have a stronger effect against the Governments millions. If you can only send €10 through paypal, even that would help, there is no minimum donation. We'll be publishing all our efforts online. The people of Ireland have the faith of Europe in our hands, and it's time we act fast, with courage, and conviction, we'll canvass all people that believe in freedom and honesty to vote.

On behalf of the organisation, we thank everyone who supports us financially or in other ways.

We Are Change Ireland

Hi Leiff

Good work with WAC Ireland. Well done!

I'm organising a European-wide 911 activists' gathering in Amsterdam next March, so that we can all meet each other and discuss strategy (and have some fun!). If you email me at annie@anniemachon.com, I'll send you the details.

Regards

Annie

hold on.... why do you think Ireland is so prosperous today? It is because of a huge amount of investment given to it by the EU or the EEC as it was then

I dont want this to be a campaign issue, im not pro-EU or a eurosceptic, im far more evolved along the political paradigm than that... but this is a case of having your cake and eating it.

I grew up in Ireland in the 80's. There was no money. The roads were *, there was no infastructure, no jobs outside of very concentrated areas and migration was huge. That changed when the EU investment came in. Ireland used it very well and made every penny count.

Ireland will not leave the EU, if it does, its finished. Back to poverty. The comparisons you made with norway and Switzerland there are not applicable. Those countries have significant natural resources and a degree of financial independence that ireland never had and hasnt got now. They are not even independent - they are interlocked in the EEA, a more or less subsidiary of the EU itself.

nothing a tad bit of old irish sarcasm cant cure!

anyway, what i meant is you can look at this kind of thing in 2 ways - realistically or idealistically. The irish man or woman on the street will know what the EU has done for them, and you cannot argue against that. A referendum may waver on the usual independence card... but the de facto truth is irish sovereignty has been strengthened and reinforced by the EU, not weakened or taken away by it.

thats the realistic way.

now, people on this forum will all understand there is a bigger process going on, one that the man or woman on the street is unaware of or doesnt care too much about - thats the idealistic approach - and in campaigning on a single issue (a referendum) its next to useless. People have already largely made up their minds or are waiting for a figure they already trust (a politician, father figure whatever) to tell them what is best.

The we are change idea is a good one, good luck with it, Leiff, but bothering to campaign about the EU is pointless imho. u will just end up banded in with fundamentalists.

perhaps evolved was a bad word to describe awareness of an agenda

I'm not a member of WAC or Irish but I am profoundly EU-sceptic and have posted their link around.

I don't doubt that Ireland has benefited from EU funds in the past but IMO Ireland will not get as much help in the future and their investments can't be taken from them now anyway.

What will happen when the Irish economy needs a rate cut but the EU doesn't or vice versa?
