Controversial former Formula 1 chief and privacy campaigner Max Mosley bankrolled Labour MP Tom Watson's campaign to become the party's deputy leader, it emerged last night.
The millionaire son of Britain's war-time fascist leader Oswald Mosley gifted £40,000 to Mr Watson - who made clamping down on newspaper freedom the centrepiece of his campaign.
Mr Mosley has led a high-profile celebrity campaign for tougher rules on the press after suing the News of the World for printing photos of him of taking part in sadomasochistic roleplay dressed in German military uniforms.
Mr Watson, meanwhile, has spearheaded the push for greater press regulation in Parliament.
He even listed the issue on the front page of his Labour deputy leadership campaign website.
Mr Mosley's support for the Labour deputy leader was revealed in August's register of MPs' financial interests.
It shows the now Labour deputy leader - seen by many as a potential successor to Jeremy Corbyn - was gifted a £12,500 cash donation from Mr Corbyn.
Mr Watson also accepted £27,554 worth of printing costs from the millionaire privacy campaigner.
The Labour MP for West Bromwich East was also bankrolled by Unite, the hard-left trade union, and the author JK Rowling, among others.
Mr Mosley's fight for greater regulation of the press came after he took the News of the World to court over the newspaper's revelations about his sex life, winning £60,000 in damages a landmark privacy victory.
Mr Mosley did not dispute taking part in the sexual activity at a rented Chelsea basement flat - but said it was consensual and private.
He said that his life had been devastated by the March 2008 expose and by the newspaper putting secretly-filmed footage on its website, which attracted at least 3.5 million hits.
Mr Mosley has since played a major part backing the pressure group Hacked Off and giving evidence in the Leveson Enquiry.
Despite Mr Mosley's support for greater press regulation - supported by many Labour MPs - his donations are likely to raise eyebrows within the party, having lived for years as a tax exile in Monaco.
At the party conference in Brighton this week, John McDonnell, promised to end 'tax cuts for the rich and addressing the scourge of tax evasion and avoidance'.
Mr Corbyn also attacked the Conservatives for giving 'tax cuts to the wealthiest' and pledged that 'those with income and wealth to spare' pay more in tax.
Mr Watson has spearheaded the push for greater press regulation in Parliament and made the issue the centrepiece of his deputy leadership campaign
Before the election, the Labour party turned down a £1million offer from Mr Mosley to fund a campaign linking David Cameron to the phone hacking scandal.
He hoped to bankroll an attack on the Prime Minister by highlighting his ties with Andy Coulson – who was editor of the Sunday tabloid which printed the 'orgy' revelations and later hired as the Conservative leader's spin doctor.
Mr Mosley was president of the FIA – the international governing body for Formula 1 and other motor sports – when the News of the World published the story of his sado-masochistic orgy in 2008 in which German was spoken and uniforms were worn. _________________ www.lawyerscommitteefor9-11inquiry.org

Watson defying Corbyn this weekend over Syria vote
Demanding Corbyn allow a free vote on Syria
It's not the deputy leader's job to demand anything of the leader unless he wants to be sacked
There appears to be a total breakdown in party discipline...
Corbyn's ideals aren't really practical when it comes to running Britain's political opposition party. He cannot allow Watson to behave like this. Watson is actually daring Corbyn to sack him, directly undermining his leadership & the will of the party. A right snake in the grass. Don't forget his deputy leadership campaign was funded by Max, son of the famous super-fascist Oswald Mosely. _________________ --
