Wow that is really something. Surely as stated above this is illegal, as no probable cause is specifically implied to each person. As they are not searching for 'Terrorist' activity but 'anti-social behaviour' issues (as is explicitly implied by the clip and the officer) to 're-assure' scared joe public, this is indeed a breach of the use of Section 44 (if used), as 'reasonable grounds' applicable to every person searched or subjected to the sniffer dog would have to be given under any other search act. I cant see which other power they could have used to effect this policy and it clearly breaches section 44, so imhho they are 'bang to rights'. _________________ The Peoples United Collective TPUC.ORG

Cant see how they can force you to walk through a metal detector. Can hardly be classed as obstructing an officer in the course of his duty. I dont think the police have any powers to ask you to stop doing something that you are doing legal, perhaps with the exception of entering a crime scene. There was a case of some women preaching from the steps of a church to a crowd that had gathered. Some heckler was giving them some stick and the police tried to stop the women speaking on the grounds of inciting violence. Think case went to several courts before finding in favour of the women. police had no power to stop a legal activity.
Having the bottle to politely refuse the policeman in his big yellow coat and with all his "weapons" around his belt is another matter but its getting to the stage when joe public needs to. _________________ JO911B.

I think we'd all be surprised by what the police can do with new terror laws. They aren't using them at the moment to any great extent. That's the trick they use to get us used to this way of life. New laws are announced, libertarian groups sound off about the threat to freedom, laws are rubber stamped through parliament and then sit there unused for a while. Talking heads appear on media rubbishing the libertarians objections, pointing out that the laws have not affected anyone's liberty as hysterically predicted by lefties etc.
Then later, when we're all asleep, the laws are wheeled out and it's too late for us. A thousand years of hard won civil freedoms gone in an instant.
It's what happened to Germany in the twenties and thirties. It's what will happen here if they have their way.
