Quote: | 01.05.09 (05:00pm) | Update - Boil Water Notice
The precautionary boil water notice issued by Welsh Water to customers in parts of Denbighshire, Flintshire and a very small area of Conwy will remain in force over the bank holiday weekend.
Welsh Water Operations Director Peter Perry said, “We have made significant progress in our investigations to find the cause of the detection of coliform bacteria at the Alwen Water Treatment Works, and we are now instigating a programme of work to rectify the problem.
“The extensive sampling we are doing across the water distribution system has shown no cause for concern but we have decided to reinforce the treatment process at the works while our investigations continue.
“Over the bank holiday weekend we will be installing, commissioning and testing new equipment at the works to bolster the disinfection process we employ at Alwen. We will remove the precautionary Boil Water Notice as soon as we are confident that the new equipment is working effectively.
“In the meantime we are reminding people that it is important that they continue to bring water to the boil before it is used for drinking and food preparation and vehicles loud-hailing this message will be about in affected areas throughout the weekend, including holiday and caravan parks where there will be visitors to the area.
“The additional disinfection the water will be receiving may cause a few people to notice a slightly different taste to their tap water and people should not worry about this change.”
Peter Perry added, “We will continue to keep local authority health officers and the National Public Health Service for Wales up to date with what we are doing and work quickly to get the new system up to speed to enable us to remove the Boil Water Notice.
“We are only too aware of the disruption this causes people, and thank everyone for bearing with us while we resolve the problem and return things back to normal.”
If customers are unsure as to whether the Boil Notice affects them, we would ask them to call our 24 hour operational helpline, which is free from landlines, on 0800 052 0130. |

Think we also get water from Llyn Celyn and Llyn Brenig. I suppose it also depends where treatment stations are located as to drinking restriction
Large resentment towards Liverpool in 60s when some of Wales small beautiful rural communities were destroyed including cemeteries just to satisfy the water needs of Liverpool and surrounds.
Was talking to a welsh fellow in a pub last month and he still jokingly says he urinates in the lake when he is up that way.
I can remember the protest signs written on walls when we travelled that way on days out
We also had our first case of swine flu last week.
