'Poem'...

Bit of a strange one this. Never written a poem before, but it seemed like an effective way of relieving some inner-tensions

Here goes:

I am never surprised
By the blissfully ignorant
Nor the extent of their blind allegiance
To a bloody flag
A desecrated rag
The new symbol of belligerence.

For no longer does it watch over
The interests of its people
The people are nowhere to be heard
Instead they’re watching
Listening and playing
Apathetic, subdued are the herd.

‘Drink from well of the nation!’
‘It’s for your benefit!’ you’re told
A life of forced medication
By lies spun carefully and sold
Another step in the Elite’s fascination
The return to the Gulags of old.

When their backs are turned
Their minds distracted
Comes the greatest trick of all
Convince a population
They’re under threat
And watch their freedoms fall.

Thus it’s with great eagerness I deplore
The blissful ignorance my eyes once saw
And say that ‘2+2=4’
And recall the wisdom you can’t ignore:
Those who give up liberty for security
Are the ones who deserve neither nor.

So it falls upon the informed few
The embodiment of Freedom
To awaken the masses and send a message
To a hijacked United Kingdom
So that one day, fists raised we might say
Tread on me, and I’ll make you pay.
