well yes energy security (peak oil) is yet another global crisis that is getting increasing attention but

global pandemics (bird flu), vacination programmes of dubious merit, largely artifical food shortages and the current banking meltdown are not directly connected to peak oil or climate change except that they are all

global problems that invoke global reactions (fear, violence, panic, deaths) which give rise to demands for global 'solutions'

problem - reaction - solution

Now where have I heard that one before
