Open Letter From WeAreChange UK

Dear Friends of Change,

As many of you will have heard, our American counterparts have recently been the victims of vicious libel in the mainstream media, where lies have been told about one of their members attacking a disabled girl. In reality that member was himself attacked and, being an activist committed to peace as are we all, did not even fight back.

As a result We Are Change UK has donated all of our current campaign funds of $190 to their legal fund. If you are able to donate please consider doing so by visiting http://www.wearechange.org where you will find a chip-in button.

It is clear that as We Are Change actions and journalism around the world becomes more effective and gets the attention of more people, a very co-ordinated campaign is being waged against us, and it is vital that we all stand together on this.

This, however, leads us to a plea:

We Are Change UK are now without funds and have some big plans for this summer, as well as the usual ongoing costs of DVDs and flyers we hand out on a weekly basis. With the earmarked funds now having "gone to a better place" we are here with our cap in our hand asking for your support so that we can keep the pressure on.

We apologise for having to bring the issue of money up - it may be dirty that money makes the world go around, but in the right hands, money can bring some good too

Has everyone seen that youtube of Nico Haupt's assault on a 'We are Change' member at ground zero? The New York police refused to do anything, can't we get an e-mail NY police campaign going on this?

I shot some of that footage. Those cops weren't NYPD. They were PAPD - Port Authority of NY and NJ. I know there has been some followup with with the NYPD, who were considerably more receptive and helpful.

I agree that more noise should be made re: the blatant disregard of the PAPD. I will mention it to the rest of the group.
