UK Planning Orwellian Database

The UK Government is planning a database containing phone records and emails of EVERYONE in the UK.

We need to stop those damn terrorists... and only the Thought Police can do it!

Strangely enough this has had some criticism. Liberal MP Chris Huhne calls it... er Orwellian. I bet Orwell had wished he'd trade-marked his name...

The BBC meanwhile states the UK public is "sleepwalking" towards a Big Brother society. I guess they may be right (z-z-z)

Somehow I feel like they are probably doing what the powerful often do - asking permission after having already done it. Just a hunch.
