Fusion goes forward from the fringe
By Alan Boyle
on Cosmic Log

“The latest quarterly update from EMC2 Fusion Development Corp. comes amid other signs that seemingly oddball approaches to fusion research may not be all that oddball after all. Just last week, General Fusion announced that
Amazon.com’s billionaire founder, Jeff Bezos, was part of a $19.5 million investment round to further the company’s plan to take advantage of a technology called magnetized target fusion. Another billionaire, Paul Allen, is an investor in Tri Alpha Energy, which is working on its own hush-hush fusion project (and occasionally publishing its research).

EMC2 Fusion doesn’t have tens of millions of venture capital to play with — but it does have a $7.9 million Navy contract to test a plasma technology known as inertial electrostatic confinement fusion, also known as Polywell fusion.”

The momentum is there.

Paper with no where else to go.

Falling into “warm” fusion.

Who will publicly invest in the number of new energy companies about to unleash cold fusion on the planet?

Is there not billions of people on this planet ready to purchase safe, clean energy?

Greece has lit another torch. Defkalion Green Technologies is leading the way licensing breakthrough energy technology that will change how we live on this plant.

The first gets the glory. But those that follow can also be economic winners.

Numerous companies around the globe have proto-type reactors creating energy from hydrogen right now, ready to expand testing, waiting to hire more staff to accelerate the development of these deceptively-simple and sensitive cells.

We could have had this technology years ago, had history gone differently. But we will have it.

A chance at a future will not be denied us.

Who else is negotiating a deal to fund the greatest investment opportunity of the 21rst century?

And why isn’t it you?

Dr. Brian Josephson, winner of the 1973 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on superconductivity, has recently released a YouTube video of an interview of himself conducted by Judith Driscoll, Professor of Materials Science at Cambridge University. The stated purpose of the video is to wake up the media to the E-Cat story, which has not been widely reported on in the mainstream media of the English-speaking world. While some cold fusion advocates hypothesize the existence of a conspiracy of silence to suppress news with such important implications, Josephson suggests the silence is more due to an unwillingness of the traditional media outlets (both general and scientific) to risk appearing credulous by simply reporting on the story.

Link

The content of the video is not really news for those who have been following the E-Cat story. Josephson himself is not likely privy to secret details of Andrea Rossi's work, although he has kept up with developments in his capacity as an editor of the "Energy Catalyzer" page on Wikipedia. The video appears intended as an introduction of the energy catalyzer to a general audience including, of course, those in the media. Josephson uses a number of simple analogies and illustrations to explain why he believes the E-Cat could work. One of his analogies addresses the lack of high-energy gamma rays produced by Rossi's device—a serious objection from a nuclear physics perspective if the device does indeed work by the fusion of nickel and hydrogen.

However, while he gives support for the idea that the E-Cat could work, Josephson doesn't offer his own hypothesis detailing how he believes it does work. Perhaps optimists and skeptics alike can at least agree that there is still too little known publicly about the E-Cat for anyone (except Rossi, perhaps) to develop a comprehensive theory on how it functions, if indeed it does. A comprehensive theory is not necessary for the commercial success of device: it just needs to work. But, if it does work, there will be a much stronger demand than there is even now among scientists for more details on the process so that it can be researched properly. Rossi's recent deal with the University of Bologna researchers is a positive development in that respect.

The imprimatur of a Nobel laureate in Physics may prove beneficial to Andrea Rossi, and to cold fusion research in general. In Dr. Josephson's case that benefit may be tempered by the fact that he has been known as a cold fusion advocate for years. And perhaps it would also be wise to recall that a Nobel laureate in Physics, Sir John Cockcroft, was involved in hot fusion's version of the Fleischmann-Pons story, so we have evidence, if we needed any, that a Nobel Prize in Physics doesn't prevent one from drawing wrong conclusions in the field of physics.

Still, if nothing else, Dr. Josephson's YouTube video and tomorrow's press conference in Greece may prove to be the catalysts that convince the mainstream media the time is right to start reporting this story. More media reporting on the story means a wider audience, and therefore more people talking about the E-Cat and cold fusion in general, and discussing whether it can be real. That seems to be precisely what Dr. Josephson is hoping to accomplish. We shall see if he is successful.

Cold fusion devices produce far more energy than they use; quickly approaching commercial viability

Tuesday, July 05, 2011 by: Daniel Erickson

(NaturalNews) Cold fusion is real, but mass American news sources are not covering it. Experiments are currently being duplicated across the world, to add further verification to the body of scientific proof. It is now possible to create energy with commonplace resources at no cost to the environment. Power plants using cold fusion will be constructed before 2012.

Natural News has been covering the developments of cold fusion for quite some time, as controlled experiments in Russia, California, Italy, and Japan have consistently proven that cold fusion is real. (Read one of the original articles here (http://www.naturalnews.com/013281.html).)

One of these successful experiments was conducted by Professor emeritus of Osaka University, Japan - Yoshiaki Arata. Dr. Arata performed a demonstration of cold fusion at Osaka. A colleague of his wrote, afterward: "Arata's demonstration was successfully done it demonstrated live data looked just similar to the data they reported in [the] papers. This showed the method highly reproducible." Read the original article for more details at (http://www.sott.net/articles/show/1...).

In addition, Andrea Rossi's Fusion Energy Catalyzer was tested in a number of different scenarios this year, resulting in a stronger belief that cold fusion may be ready for public use by the end of 2011. On January 14, Focardi and Rossi held a press conference, discussing their 10-kW generator. Another experiment, which took place roughly a month later at the University of Bologna, reported the model generated 15 kW for 18 hours. There are currently plans to hook up roughly 200 of these smaller units, in order to construct two 1 megawatt-producing power plants before the end of the year. If these plants perform up to their potential, then we can hope for the construction of industrial-sized power plants within another year or two.

But how does it work?

Cold fusion is not really magical, even though it could very well have a miraculous effect on our future. It is a relatively simple chemical reaction that produces excess heat, meaning that if the reaction occurs in water, it will increase the temperature of the water. Powdered nickel fuels the reaction. You put in nickel (one of the most plentiful metals on the planet), and you get heated water.

After that point, almost every mechanic in the world would be able to take it from there. Steam engines heat water with coal, then using the expansive properties of the steam to power turbines. A cold fusion device would use the same basic mechanical devices, but it would heat the water through the consumption of nickel rather than combustion.

But why has news of cold fusion not yet reached mass media in the United States? Why is there no story in the New York Times that showcases all of this excitement and buzz?

The media has been burnt by the dream of cold fusion before. In 1989, Fleishman and Pons first conducted a series of experiments on cold fusion and produced some truly exciting results. In their excitement, they let their findings slip a little too early, before they had been able to thoroughly study the discovery, or realize consistently positive results. They released their miraculous findings, with claims of having discovered the dream machine of the millennium, and they caused a lot of excitement in the scientific community, at least at first.

But they had fallen prey to their own unbridled enthusiasm. Confronted with the potential of what they had discovered - a future resplendent with clean, free energy - they jumped the gun a little prematurely. Their method was reproduced across the globe, but many experiments fell flat. In fact, their method was shown to be effective only 30% of the time. And in the world of empirical fact, 30% is an error, not a discovery. It was supposed that the 30% of experiments that did corroborate Fleishman and Pons' findings were more likely the result of bribes or 'friendships,' not cold fusion.

Consequently, it was presumed that Fleishman and Pons were frauds, just a couple of jingoists desperately attempting to gain fame and attention. Cold fusion was thought to have been revealed as a hoax, and the scientists became notorious. All but excommunicated, Fleishman and Pons went underground, where they continued to hone their method and make the process easily replicable and consistent. They checked and double-checked their findings, and they spread their idea to other scientists willing to conduct more thorough investigations, such as Andrea Rossi, whose device has, so far, produced the consistency that Fleishman and Pons' lacked.

This discovery could not come at a better time for the world, when oil resources are quickly becoming scarce, and greenhouse gas emissions are continuing to spike, despite the damage they are causing.

So, given the reason for optimism in this period in which energy is particularly expensive, why is the mass media refraining from mentioning cold fusion. Why is it not on the front pages of every newspaper?

There are a number of possible explanations. First, the scientific community's pause could very well be a consequence of the unbridled enthusiasm given by the initial experiments conducted in 1989. After such a humiliation, it is easy to see why scientists would remain skeptical, at least on the surface. Meanwhile, Rossi's Energy Catalyzer is being slated for reproduction in large-scale, cold fusion reactors later this year. If you compare the pace of Rossi's tests to the scientific norm, then it is clear that scientists are, indeed, excited.

As for the press, there are more insidious explanations to be considered. For one, it is a distinct possibility that a number of enormous businesses, such as oil and coal companies are leaning on mass media sources to keep quiet. Cold fusion power plants would drop the price of energy, thereby putting energy companies out of commission. It is in their best interest to slow down the process of integrating cold fusion.

But whatever the reason for mass media silence, you can expect to start hearing about cold fusion by the end of the year. By then, it will be impossible to keep quiet a discovery of this magnitude.

Mr. Rossi visits Sweden

by Ivy Matt

Andrea Rossi has recently visited universities at the modern Swedish capital of Stockholm and the ancient Swedish capital of Uppsala. The purpose of the visit was ostensibly to hammer out research agreements with Stockholm University and Uppsala University similar to that reached with the University of Bologna.

However, the visit also gave Mr. Rossi the chance to swap ideas with scientists from around the world. As he reported on his Journal of Nuclear Physics website:

In Sweden I am working with top scientists from Sweden, USA and Japan from whom I am learning. A lot.

From his recent comments on the site it appears Mr. Rossi is still refining his ideas on the theory behind the functioning of the E-Cat. He mentioned one cold fusion theory as particular interesting: Professor Yeong E. Kim‘s Bose-Einstein condensation theory of nuclear fusion. Professor Kim recently released a paper examining the application of his theory to hydrogen-nickel systems such as Rossi’s and recommending avenues of further research. He will be delivering a talk on the subject at the Fifth Asia Pacific Conference on Few-Body Problems in Physics 2011 (APFB2011), August 22-26 in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Also on his site, Mr. Rossi recently gave his opinion on the effect his E-Cat technology will have on other energy technologies (in particular hot fusion):

I think that all the energy sources must be integrated and developed. They must be a team, not a mess.

And in answer to the following questions:

How many years of study it took to get the first working prototype of E-Cat?
what was your first thought when you realized it was working
what could be the more beautiful consequence of your invention for mankind?

Mr. Rossi gave these answers:

1- About 15 years
2- That I was going into an ocean of troubles and an enormous amount of work. I was right.
3- Energy at very low price: better quality of life; maybe less wars, more time for Culture.
Warm Regards,
A.R.

Many of us are looking forward to seeing the fruits of that work.

Cheap Cold Fusion to Save World Billions

Expensive hot fusion research continues to this day with preparation for the unpractical, multi-billion dollar International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER). Thankfully, Andrea Rossi's cold fusion Energy Catalyzer is a commercial ready technology that can revolutionize the energy landscape immediately, at a tiny fraction of the cost.

by Hank Mills
Pure Energy Systems News

Hot fusion has been considered the "Holy Grail" of future energy technology by mainstream scientists and academics, who have spent their careers working on it. However, development of hot fusion has been slow and progress has been minimal. In fact, not a single experimental reactor has produced more energy than it consumed. The hope has been that if enough money is thrown at hot fusion, practical reactors could be built that would provide the world with abundant, cheap energy. The truth is that despite the billions of dollars that have been spent and the huge reactors that have been built, a practical power generating hot fusion reactor is at best decades away. Thankfully, cold fusion technology has emerged as economically viable, and is about to bring the need for "hot fusion" research to an end.

The world record for the efficiency of a hot fusion reactor is held by the Joint European Torus (JET), located in the United Kingdom. It is the largest Tokamak style reactor in the world. The reactor alone weighs thousands of tons, stands twelve meters high, and has a diameter of fifteen meters. It is a complex monstrosity that requires countless support systems, massive amounts of energy to operate, and cost billions of dollars to build. In 1997 the reactor broke the record for the efficiency of a hot fusion reactor, producing 70% of the energy that it consumed. The efficiency goes even lower if the energy needed for magnetic containment and support systems are factored in. To be blunt, the reactor is very far from a true break-even point where it produces as much energy as it consumes.

An even larger and more expensive tokamak hot fusion reactor is being constructed. It is named the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), and is being constructed in France. The reactor is being financed by countries around the world including the United States, the European Union, and China. This extremely expensive reactor is expected to cost over 15 billion Euro to build, and will require even more funding to operate. It is hoped that construction will be finished by 2018, and the reactor can be tested by 2019. After many years of testing, the ITER reactor might meet the goal of producing ten times more power than it consumes. By doing so, it could provide key information needed to build an industrial hot fusion reactor. Such a reactor would take many years to build, and cost billions of dollars.

Simply put, hot fusion (at least as envisioned by mainstream science) is a pipe dream. It is decades away from powering a single home, and the financial investment required to get to that stage will be enormous. The simple fact is that the world needs a robust, affordable, clean, and safe alternative energy source -- immediately!

Our civilization cannot wait twenty, thirty, or forty years for "hot fusion" reactors to start producing electricity for the power grid. There is a global energy crisis, economic recession, and ecological disaster taking place. Without a "breakthrough" energy technology in the near future, our civilization may not exist (as we know it) much longer.

The good news is that we do not need to wait decades for hot fusion research to usher in an energy utopia. We do not need to wait for the ITER to be built, or other experimental reactors. In fact, there is no reason to spend one more penny on hot fusion research, because *cold fusion* technology has arrived!

Cold fusion is a technology that allows nuclear fusion reactions to take place at relatively low temperatures -- hundreds or thousands of degrees instead of millions of degrees. Unlike hot fusion, it does not require billion dollar reactors the size of large houses. A cold fusion reactor can fit on a table top, and cost only hundreds of dollars to build. Most importantly, cold fusion technology is commercial ready NOW (not in decades), and is scheduled to hit the market place in October.

Andrea Rossi is an Italian engineer who has developed a cold fusion technology named the E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer). The technology is very simple, completely safe, and produces large amounts of energy. An E-Cat setup is simple to describe. Nickel powder, hydrogen gas, and an undisclosed (for proprietary reasons) catalyst is placed in a stainless steel reactor vessel as small as fifty cubic centimeters in volume. To visualize this, imagine a container the size of a "D" cell battery. Heat is applied to the reactor with electric resistors (although any heat source would work), and the hydrogen is pressurized. When a temperature of around 400C is achieved, nuclear fusion reactions start occurring, and energy is released in the form of heat. The output can be used to heat water, or create steam to power a turbine to generate electricity.

Although a nuclear reaction is taking place, little radiation is produced (it can all be shielded by two centimeters of lead) and no nuclear waste is created. The benefit of the reaction being nuclear fusion (rather than a chemical process) is that a tremendous amount of energy is produced. A fifty cubic centimeter reactor can produce several kilowatts of heat for several months at a time, consuming less than one sixth of that power (or consuming zero power in self sustain mode). The cost of re-fueling the reactor will be very low, due to the fact that nickel is one of the most common elements on the planet, and hydrogen can easily be obtained from water.

Cold fusion holds the capability of being a game changing energy source that makes all other conventional sources of energy obsolete. It eliminates the need for hot fusion research, and this is certainly one of the reasons mainstream science has waged a war against it for two decades. Many scientists who have made careers in hot fusion research don't want their livelihood threatened! When the advantages of cold fusion and the disadvantages of hot fusion are considered, it becomes obvious hot fusion research is about to go the way of the dodo bird.

Lets compare and contrast the these two types of fusion technologies. It will become clear that cold fusion technology makes hot fusion research a total waste of money.

Current State of Development - Cold fusion is commercial ready, but hot fusion still needs decades of development. By the end of this year cold fusion reactors will be hitting the market place. Hot fusion reactors will not be powering a single home for a minimum of twenty years or more.

Research Costs - Cold fusion research can be performed cheaply, while hot fusion research is tremendously expensive. One or two people can perform testing on a cold fusion reactor, but it requires a large number of employees to test a hot fusion reactor. This means more salaries and benefits to pay when hot fusion is being researched.

Reactor Costs - Cold fusion reactors can be built for hundreds of dollars, but hot fusion reactors can cost millions to billions of dollars.

Reactor Size - Cold fusion reactors can be built small enough to fit in an enclosure the size of an air conditioner. Hot fusion reactors are very large, very heavy, and require additional buildings or rooms for their support and control systems.

Build Time - Cold fusion reactors can be mass manufactured by the millions and sold just like any appliance that can be purchased at Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, etc. Hot fusion reactors take years to build, and right now the only hot fusion reactors being built are for testing. No one knows how to build a hot fusion reactor that can produce practical amounts of power.

Efficiency - Cold fusion reactors consume only a fraction of the power they produce, or do not consume any power at all when running in a self sustaining mode. Hot fusion reactors have never produced more power than they consumed; and would consider 10x sufficient.

Distributed Power - Cold fusion reactors could be connected to individual homes, and could eventually be used to power individual automobiles. Hot fusion reactors are so large and complex they would not be suitable for distributed power systems -- only utility-scale systems.

Safety - Cold fusion reactors do not produce nuclear waste and any radiation produced can be easily shielded. Some hot fusion reactors (depending on the fuel they use) may have these benefits as well. However, hot fusion reactors are large, consume huge amounts of energy, utilize many more systems, and may be more likely to have accidents.

As you can see, cold fusion technology is a commercially viable technology, ready to hit the market place. Hot fusion technology is decades away at best, and is still in the experimental stages.

The many advantages and huge potential of cold fusion, may be one reason some individuals try to deny "fusion" is taking place in "cold fusion" reactors. They insist the processes taking place in "cold fusion" reactors are only "low energy nuclear reactions", and have *nothing* to do with fusion. Ridiculously, some scientists have proposed theories (such as Widom-Larsen theory) that if proven would explain a fusion process, but deny the logical conclusion of their theory -- that a nuclear fusion reaction has taken place!

The reasons for these illogical games, denying "fusion" reactions are taking place, are probably several. First, when cold fusion emerges into the marketplace they want it to go by another name. This could potentially (at least to some limited degree) hide the truth about the two decade long war against cold fusion that includes suppression by many closed minded, arrogant so-called "scientists." They don't want the masses getting wind of the history of cold fusion! Secondly, it could allow them to try and make the case that "hot fusion" still deserves research funding, because "cold fusion" is not *really* fusion, but something else. This could allow them to keep squandering taxpayer dollars on multi-billion dollar test reactors (that will never produce a single watt of usable energy), instead of opening their minds so they can find other technologies to research. Finally, utilizing a different name for cold fusion allows some researchers to try and differentiate their research from that done previously by others, even though it's still nuclear fusion taking place!

An obvious consequence of hot fusion research coming to an end is that the money can be saved or spent on other things. If the money is spent elsewhere, the billions of dollars could go towards proliferating cold fusion technology. This would make logical sense, because cold fusion is capable of being used for the benefit of mankind immediately. Hot fusion is not capable of powering a single home, and will not be for decades.

It's time for the world to realize cold fusion is the future, and hot fusion is a boondoggle only attempted in the past but never coming even close to being practical.

Q&A with Douglas R. McAllister: Mayor Pro-tem and Cold Fusion Author
July 1, 2011
by Ruby Carat

Douglas R. McAllister is the Mayor Pro-tem of Murrieta, California, but he’s also the author of a novel with cold fusion technology at the center of the plot.

The suspense story is described on the official author website:

In a world desperately in need of new energy sources, this fascinating scientific thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat. In 1989, two scientists announce they have created a cold fusion reaction. The public is thrilled at the prospect of a better option than oil. Mysteriously, the success could not be duplicated. A disappointed world deemed the project a failure. But was it?

We may know the answer to that question, but we contacted the author to find out more about this elected official who’s explored a vision of the future where cold fusion is a reality.

The Sovereign Principles

Novel by the Mayor Pro-tem of California city has cold fusion plot.
Q&A with Douglas R.McAllister

CFN What prompted you to start writing this novel?

DM I have always loved to write. Twenty years ago I decided to ‘just do it’ if only for the fun of it. Though I published 20 years later, it took only approximately a couple of years of actual working on the manuscript.

CFN Without giving it all away, can you tell us a little about the story? How does cold fusion fit in?

DM If there was a sub-title, it would be “The Consequence of Compromise.” The book is centered on domestic terrorism. In this case, a billionaire with a score to settle with America infiltrates a top secret effort to create a commercially viable form of cold fusion. Once he has control, he intends to use that technology as leverage to have his way with the world in general, and America in particular. The sub plots center around the complicated Dr. James Sovereign, his personal and professional life…not to mention hints of a life very few know about…and the mistake the billionaire makes when he attacks Sovereign’s family. Jim has learned first hand the consequence of compromise and has two children that hate him for it. In the end, it is that relationship that is the billionaire’s undoing…

CFN How did your idea of the story develop?

DM I like to start with real historical events and then ‘fill in the blanks,’ fictionalizing them under the category of ‘what if.’ In this case, it was all the hooplah over the claim in Utah in 1989 that a room temperature reaction of fusion had been achieved. It was reported to be false…but what if it really wasn’t….? From there I pulled upon areas of personal interest and created the plot that would highlight how the world would be changed with such an energy source…and why that was important. It was important to me to keep it authentic without getting so far down into the weeds to muddy the pace of the story. For this work, the plot seemed to develop as I wrote. It has multiple story lines that seem unrelated but all prove to be interrelated…so pay attention :0).

CFN Who did you write this book for? Who is your audience?

DM Originally I wrote it for me. I have always enjoyed writing and about 20 years ago I found myself in Australia with some time on my hands after a very nasty divorce. I guess you could say the project started out as therapy, but in the process it developed into a work of its own completely divorced (pardon the pun) from its original inspiration. Over the years it has taken on various iterations. It wasn’t until about two years ago, though, that I decided to see if I could get a publisher.

CFN What does the title of the book mean to you?

DM It is a bit of a play on words. The main character’s name is Jim Sovereign. The principles are those that his father, Richard Sovereign, taught him before he died. However, the principles themselves, in real life, are fairly ‘sovereign’ in that they apply pretty much universally.

CFN What is the significance of the gold sovereign on the front of the book?

DM The Gold Sovereign on the cover is meant to represent several things. The most obvious is the name of the main character. However, the ‘value’ of the coin speaks to the financial impact Cold Fusion could have on the world. It sits in a sea of oil representing the ‘context’ out of which successful Cold Fusion technology would proceed to change the world. Using the coin to represent both the financial side and the main character is indicative of how the two issues cross paths in the process of the story.

CFN It was reported that you are currently writing a sequel. How is that progressing?

DM Yes, I am. It is called The Sovereign Politic. It is a sequel, picking up where Principles lets off. Principles was set primarily in Australia, but Politic will be set in the States, specifically Murrieta, CA. The sub-title is “All Politics is Local.” In this work I will wrap around the main plot authentic discussions of issues that government on ‘the Hill’ deal with theoretically that we on the local level deal with in real time. The primary plot will center around North Korea and a terrorist attack. I have the story mapped out in detail and while I am still doing research, I have started writing. This one is going to be a lot of fun, but I hope will also be important.

CFN Do you actively talk with people about cold fusion? How do people react when you talk to them about cold fusion?

DM Yes, I do…for the most part they don’t know the difference between fusion and fission. I try to educate and hope that my book will be an entertaining enough read that it will once again get folks focused in the direction of cold fusion for the future.

CFN What are some of the biggest impacts that you see coming from this technology?

DM Other than change the world as we know it, including the balance of economic power…you’ll need to read my book… :0)

CFN Are you aware of the new upcoming documentary The Believers? Do you feel that the public is becoming more aware of this despite the mainstream media’s lack of coverage?

DM No, I’m not, but now that I know about it, I look forward to it. I am investigating a plot line that would continue the discussion of cold fusion in the sequel, so any information I can find would be helpful.

CFN What is your opinion of the investment made in this technology so far? What are your thoughts on the recent developments involving the first commercial device invented by Andrea A. Rossi?

DM Any investment is money well spent, given the potential and positive impacts of success. I am not aware of this device, but I will ‘study up’ as per my answer to the previous question. I will definitely look into the recent developments as that will play into the next installment.

CFN How does being an author and an elected official for a city like Murrieta combine together in your life? When do you find time to write?

DM The combination makes for a very interesting calendar. I actually have two very compatible but separate full time jobs on top of my writing: Elected official and an executive with a multi-national telecommunications company. Finding the time to write is a challenge. Early mornings. Late at night. On planes… wherever and whenever I can find a chunk of time long enough to get into the mode. Working on the second installment, The Sovereign Politic that picks up where Principles leaves off, may take a while, but I am confident it will be a very satisfying sequel. I know I’m having a blast writing it! And as for the elected office and writing, for this second book I am able to do research 24/7 as I go about my day. And believe me, I see the best and the worst of politics. So there are intriguing plot lines to be explored…

I think one of the most enjoyable parts of creating new worlds and vision through writing is the research. I learn so much in the process of my efforts to make sure the story is authentic. To that end, I am looking forward to taking advantage of the resources I’ve discovered from your site to further expand on the future of Cold Fusion in a way that will get the attention of the reader. Perhaps through your work and my books we can get Cold Fusion back on the front page again…

CFN As Mayor Pro-tem, do you think Murrieta, California will be one of the first cities in the US to purchase a cold fusion device?

Rossi's Self Sustaining One Megawatt Reactor

Among the breaking news items about Andrea Rossi's cold fusion E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer) technology is the announcement that the one megawatt reactor launching this October will likely self sustain with no external input power. Clarification on recent NASA meeting.

by Hank Mills
Pure Energy Systems News

Almost everyone in the alternative energy community is aware of Andrea Rossi's cold fusion based E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer) technology. It is a game changer that allows vast amounts of energy to be produced by inducing a nuclear fusion process between small quantities of nickel powder and hydrogen gas. Instead of the reaction taking place in a gigantic multi-billion dollar experimental reactor, it takes place in a device that can fit on a table top. This technology seems to be everything to be hoped for in a revolutionary new source of energy to replace fossil fuels -- safe, cheap, environmentally friendly, and inexhaustible.

In recent days, even more news has emerged about this technology. It seems that as the launch of the technology approaches, the flow of information is accelerating. The information is coming from Defkalion Green Technologies Incorporated, Andrea Rossi himself, and from other sources. The following is a review of some of the breaking news.

A Self Sustaining One Megawatt Reactor

In most of the tests performed on the E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer), a constant input of energy has been utilized. The reason a constant input has been used up to this point, is due to the tendency of the output of the system to increase rapidly when in a self sustaining mode. If the output cannot be reduced, the system can go out of control.

Andrea Rossi has stated many times in the past a self sustaining system is dangerous, and there is a chance of explosions. He actually indicated that during stress testing of systems he has witnessed dozens of explosions. In one specific experiment Rossi has mentioned, an E-Cat was put into self sustain mode, but had to be turned off after the output exceeded the maximum safe level of 10 kilowatts (in the form of heat). However, now he claims that these problems are being resolved, and that the one megawatt reactor will operate in a self sustaining mode with no input power.

Here is a comment on this topic from Rossi's blog, "The Journal of Nuclear Physics."

http://www.journal-of-nuclear-physics.com/?p=501&cpage=2#comment-54414

Dear Alessandro Casali:
This photo [shown in the opening of this PESN story] has been taken during the stress test of a series of E-Cats a couple of weeks ago, together with the Greek Scientist Christos Stremmenos. They are some of the E-Cats that will compound the 1 MW plant. In that phase the E-Cats were working making steam WITHOUT energy input. This is why you see us so focused (me and Stremmenos). The 1 MW plant, probably will work mostly without energy input, I suppose, because we are resolving the safety issues connected.

The 4 red spots are pumps, the E-Cat clusters are hidden. The three characters in the photo are Prof. Sergio Focardi, Prof. Christos Stremmenos and me.
Warm Regards,
A.R.

(I think the reason he uses the word "mostly" in the above post, is that the one megawatt plant will require input power to start. Also, if a reactor core starts to drift lower in output, power will be used for a few minutes to bring it back to a normal operating temperature. For the vast majority of the time, there will be no input power.)

The fact that the one megawatt plant will use no input power (the vast majority of the time) is very important. This will be absolute -- beyond any doubt -- proof that the technology works as claimed. Simply put, the pathological skeptics and naysayers will not be able to refute that cold fusion is taking place.

Confirmation the Catalyst and Fuel is Super Cheap

There have been thousands of successful cold fusion experiments in the past, but the amount of power output was so small they were not commercially viable. This is not the case with the E-Cat, because it produces enormous amounts of energy. Three critical factors make the E-Cat technology produce enough output power to make it ready for the marketplace. Without them, the E-Cat technology would be no different than any other cold fusion system.

- First, the nickel powder is somehow enriched so that it contains more of two specific isotopes. These are N-62 and N-64. These two isotopes are the ones that participate in the most fusion reactions.

- Secondly, the nickel powder is processed in such a way that tubercles or protrusions form on it. After this processing, the nickel may resemble filamentary nickel. (Link) This may allow for more reaction sites where the hydrogen can fuse with the nickel.

- Third, a catalyst is used that helps to break apart the molecular hydrogen into atomic hydrogen. We also know that it is not mixed in with the nickel powder, but is placed in the reactor afterwards. There is a lot of speculation about what this catalyst or catalysts might be. Some people speculate it might be a form of carbon, such as graphite.

In the past, Rossi has stated that the processing of the nickel powder only increased the cost of it by ten percent. Now, he states that the ten percent figure includes the cost of the catalyst. This confirms that the catalyst is super cheap.

The fuel cost of this technology seems to be very low. It really does seem that the price of enough fuel to power your home for six months may only be a few dollars. Of course at first there will be a markup on the fuel until it starts to be mass manufactured, but even if it is initially sold for ten times what it cost to manufacture it will still be very low cost.

Interview with Defkalion President Alexandros Xanthoulis

Defkalion Green Technologies Inc. is the company that has obtained exclusive rights to the E-Cat technology (which they call the Hyperion) across the world, except for the Americas. Recently, Xanthi Press interviewed the President of Defkalion, Alexandros Xanthoulis. Many important bits of information were obtained during the interview. A translation of the interview can be found here.

* They have a deal with a company to research the application of the technology in vehicles.
* They have made a deal with a very large company. They will not disclose the name of this company yet.
* They have made additional deals with companies in 47 countries to supply them with the reactor core. These companies will then use the cores to build products.

Interestingly, he also states that there will be a public demonstration of a 35 kilowatt unit (built by Defkalion) at the end of September. However, Rossi has denied this in a statement on his blog. There seems to be a big disconnect between Rossi and Defkalion, because the two do not seem to be on the same "page" so to speak. I think the demo will probably be held.

The simple truth is that Defkalion seems to be way ahead of Rossi. Defkalion may be launching a one megawatt reactor built by Rossi in October, but they have already built their own reactors and systems. In fact, Defkalion claims that the Greek government tested their products the first ten days of July, and the results of the testing will be posted, "very soon."

Rossi's Meeting with NASA

Andrea Rossi has announced that he had a meeting with NASA about the E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer) technology. He first reported this meeting during an interview with a representative from the E-Cat Report website. The following is his comment.

http://ecatreport.com/e-cat/andrea-rossi-on-the-e-cat-part-22

The management team of both Defkalion and AmpEnergo will meet on the 14th July (2011) together with NASA for an important discussion regarding the research and business development around the E-Cat. After the initial meeting with NASA, Defkalion GT and Ampenergo will sit down and develop a joint program for the introduction of the E-Cat as a main energy source to the world.

Days later a user posted a question about the meeting on his blog. Rossi responded and confirmed the meeting took place. The following is the question that was asked, and the response.

Dear Mr. Rossi,

Today there was a meeting with NASA about your invention. Is it possible to give some information about this meeting? If it is not possible no problem!
I'm just very curious.

Best Regards,
Martin

ANSWER

http://www.journal-of-nuclear-physics.com/?p=501&cpage=1#comment-53053

Dear Martin:
I am not authorized to give this information.
I can only say that there is really to learn.
I met extremely high level scientists. I have been really surprised and honored to discover that they have got independently throughly information about this technology. All I can say, so far, is that we will work together.

Warm Regards,
A.R.

PESN can confirm that the meeting did in fact take place, having played a role in instigating it.

By way of clarification, we should emphasize that the relationship between Rossi and NASA is still tentative and exploratory, and that NASA has not yet validated the E-cat technology.

The Launch is Approaching

The clock is ticking as the October launch of the one megawatt plant nears, followed by a November debut to selected individuals. In addition, a September demo of a 35 kilowatt system may be approaching. The world needs to be getting ready for the launch of this technology. There are lots of things that can be done now to help prepare for the transition from a fossil fuel based economy to a cold fusion based economy.

* All conventional nuclear power plants need to be shut down. They are too dangerous and we do not need them any longer.
* All funding for giant experimental reactors like the ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) needs to be cut. This will save the world billions of dollars. The scientists can be re-tasked to investigate cold fusion for 1/100th the cost.
* Technologies that can work with the E-Cat to generate electricity need to be developed. For example, turbines, thermoelectric panels, and thermoelectric generators that can efficiently convert heat into electricity.

By preparing now, the world can make the most of the time remaining before the launch. Our world does not have much time left with an impending financial collapse, climate change, and potential black swan events (such as a massive solar flare, asteroid impact, global plague, or other disasters) on the horizon.

Let's hurry and get ready for the E-Cat technology!

Rossi's 1 MW Cold Fusion E-Cat Reactor Photos and Video Posted

As Defkalion continues to remain silent, Andrea Rossi's one megawatt -- and mostly self sustaining -- Ni-H cold fusion reactor nears launch. Rumors are circulating about the launch of this system, photos and video of the device have been posted, a test by NyTeknik has been performed on a new model of E-Cat, and Rossi continues to make remarks on his blog.

Pure Energy Systems News

I'm more excited than ever about the prospect of cold fusion technology suddenly hitting the world this October. Anyone who has been following this saga closely and realizes the significance of the E-Cat technology should also be excited. It represents a technology that could provide for all of the world's energy needs reliably, cheaply, cleanly, and safely. With most of the world focused on other topics, this energy panacea is poised to zoom in and shake the foundations of our civilization.

In the past several days, news updates and rumors about the launch of the E-Cat technology have been spreading on the internet. Some of the news has been coming from Andrea Rossi himself, who has frequently been posting on his blog, "The Journal of Nuclear Physics." In the comment sections of the blog, he has been answering many questions, and sharing bits of information about his progress on the one megawatt plant. Here are a few of the bits of information he has shared.

- The launch of the one megawatt plant is still scheduled to take place near the end of October.

- The one megawatt plant will be "mostly" self sustaining, in that for the majority of the time it will operate without any external input of power.

- The date and location of the launch of the one megawatt plant will be kept confidential until the day before the launch. (Invited guests will have 1 week notice.) This is because the location of the one megawatt plant would immediately reveal the identity of Rossi's partner company.

- The work on the one megawatt plant is going well, but Rossi still has not received financing, and is having to pay for all the work out of his own pocket. He claims costs are going up, but the launch of the one megawatt plant is still on schedule.

- He claims that the E-Cat technology will be used in homes sooner than expected, because certifications will not be as difficult to obtain as they were expected to be.

- There will be a live video stream of the launch of the one megawatt plant.

- They are testing a device that can use the output of the E-Cat to make cooling.

Here are a couple of his recent posts.

Dear Koen Vandewalle:

Yes, everything is going on as scheduled, so far. You are right, there are many difficulties, we did not have any financing and are working exclusively with our money.

The technology and the process we are using is new. All the different LENR made before are totally different and we have no experience from competitors that can be helpful, honestly. Even the ones who got some watt have technologies totally different from ours, as everybody will see when we will disclose the theory, and no experience at all has been made from anybody on reactors producing real amounts of energy, I mean in the range of kWh/h. Now there is a race of guys who try to say that our work derives from theirs, but unfortunately there is no way that there is around something useful, so we have to open our path through an unexplored jungle of difficulties, and the expenses become everyday higher, for unforeseen problems.

But, so far, we will be able to respect the scheduled term of delivery for the 1 MW plant, and to anticipate our ability to put in the market an E-Cat for everybody. I repeat that we will be able to produce heat immediately, while for the electric power we should be ready in one year. By the way: the E-Cats for the public will produce hot water for heating, not steam.

This is a very, very hard period, so you all will excuse me if the answers will become more synthetic [boiler-plate?] and late.

Warm Regards,
A.R.

WARNING TO ALL OUR READERS:

I AM RECEIVING THOUSANDS OF REQUESTS OF INVITATION TO VISIT OUR PLANT. FOR OBVIOUS REASONS OF SECURITY WE CANNOT RECEIVE MORE THAN FEW PERSONS PER VISIT. THE START UP TEST WILL BE RESTRICTED TO FEW SCIENTISTS AND SCIENTIFIC JOURNALISTS. THE TEST WILL BE PUT ONLINE, TO ALLOW EVERYBODY TO SEE IT. FURTHER VISITS WILL BE ALLOWED, BUT IN A LIMITED NUMBER AND RESERVED TO SPECIALISTS AND CUSTOMERS. I AM VERY SORRY TO SAY THAT FOR SAFETY AND SECURITY REASONS IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO ADMIT ALL THE REQUESTS OF VISIT.

IN ANY CASE THE PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION OF OUR HOUSEHOLD E-CATS TO THE PUBLIC WILL BE MADE SOONER THAN EXPECTED, SINCE THE APPROVALS WILL BE FASTER THAN EXPECTED. VERY IMPORTANT NEWS ON THIS ISSUE ARE CLOSE TO BE MADE.

WARM REGARDS,

NytekNik's One Megawatt Scoop

In addition to the statements coming from Andrea Rossi, there have been news and updates coming from other sources. One of these is the blog http://22passi.blogspot.com/ of Daniel Passi. He has stated that he has been given photos that show the inside of the one megawatt device, and that he will run a story on it in the near future. It turns out -- while this article was being written -- that his story is a report on how the Swedish website NytekNik has obtained photos and video of the one megawatt device. Also, they were able to perform a test of a new model of E-Cat, which clearly shows a large gain of energy.

It turns out that the last version of the E-Cat has been scrapped, and a new model is going to be used in the one megawatt reactor. According to the Passi blog, this new design was developed with input from talks with Sven Kullander of the Swedish Physical and Hanno Essen, focusing primarily on research by Hidetsugu Ikegami, a professor emeritus at the University of Osaka in Japan. This model is larger (it can still fit on a table top), due to a larger volume of water in the device, and a larger heat exchanger. The new model can also produce a larger output of energy, up to a safe level of 27 kilowatts.

Inside of the one megawatt system, there are 52 modules (instead of 300 smaller modules) that work together to produce one megawatt of output. Assembled in Bologna from parts made in Miami, FL, the device assemble in a shipping container is in transit to the United States for the October launch.

The units are assembled in four rows along the two longer walls of the approximate 7 meter shipping container. Each unit has a valve for loading hydrogen as well as an electrical resistance device to 'prime' the reaction with start-up heat.

The output from the pipes from each unit are connected to a single tube exiting the back side of the container. Near the front of the unit, on the left side is a pump for inputting the water to be heated.

During the test of the new module, the system was fed an input of 2.6 kilowatts, and the output was -- at a minimum -- 3.8 kilowatts. In the best case, it was producing up to 7.8 kilowatts of output. Mats Lewan who performed the test admits it was rushed, they were short of time, and they did not have time to prepare well for the test.

Interestingly, he also witnessed the device operate in self sustain mode -- with only the input needed to power the control electronics -- for 35 minutes. During this time period the temperature inside of the reactor only dropped about ten degrees Celsius from around 130 C. It continually produced steam without any input power.

This test seems to confirm without a doubt that this technology is valid, and works as claimed. Interestingly, Daniel Passi who blogged about this test, has sardonically dedicated the post about it to Steven Krivit (an individual who Andrea Rossi has called a "snake" and has been attacking the technology).

What is Defkalion up too?

While the news about Andrea Rossi and the E-Cat heats up, information from Defkalion has become non-existent. Defkalion is the company that previously acquired rights to the Ni-H fusion technology from Rossi, and had planned a demo in October (using the reactor that Rossi is now going to demo in the USA). However, Rossi terminated the licensing agreement, and stated they had never built or tested a working reactor core. (Links) When this happened, Defkalion issued a few press releases stating they would continue their work on the technology as planned, but since then have became silent.

Could Defkalion be planning a demo of a one megawatt (or even higher capacity) device of their own design in October? They claimed on their forum -- before it was shut down -- that they had built a wide array of units (from kilowatt range to 3.4 megawatts) that were being tested by the Greek government. If this is true, then they could potentially demo one of these systems in October.

At a minimum, it would be great to get an update from Defkalion. Unlike Rossi, they have never allowed anyone to publish a photo of one of their devices, perform a test with one of their devices, or make a video of a device. Rossi has allowed multiple tests to be performed on his E-Cats, but we have never heard about a test of a Hyperion (what Defkalion calls their product). It is possible they are glad to be off the radar, so they can do their work quietly without as much public interest.

Today, we sent an email to Defkalion in hopes of getting an update.
Dear Defkalion Green Technologies Inc,

Today, September 14th, 2011, the Swedish website Nyteknik posted photos and video of Andrea Rossi's one megawatt Ni-H fusion plant. This plant is claimed to be the one megawatt system that was previously destined to be shipped to Greece (to be tested by your company), but will now be shipped to the United States for a demo at the location of Rossi's new partner. In addition, Nyteknik has posted a video of a test of a newly designed E-Cat module, that is claimed to produce up to 27 kilowatts of output. The results of the test seems to confirm a clear gain of energy, showing more energy being produced than being consumed, and also a self-sustaining mode of operation.

Although the top notch credibility of the highly respected individuals involved with your company -- consider the Christos Stremmenos as an example -- is almost beyond any dispute, no hard evidence has been provided to back up the claims that your company has produced working Hyperion units. Unlike the evidence provided by Andrea Rossi, your company has never revealed a single photo of a device, a single video of a system in operation, or allowed a third party to perform testing and publish the results. Also, despite the fact that your company claims that testing by the Greek government has been ongoing since the first ten days of July of this year, no results of such testing has been shared with the public.

For the above reasons, PESN would like to request a response for the following questions.

1) Do you have any comments in regards to the information and videos released by Nyteknik, the general status of your company, or any news about the Hyperion Ni-H cold fusion technology?

2) Is your company willing at this time to disclose evidence -- in the form of photos, videos, test data, certification results, or otherwise -- that you have produced working Ni-H cold fusion reactor cores or final products?

3) What plans does your company have for the roll out of the Hyperion technology? What can the public expect in the months to come?

Thank you for considering these questions, and for all your hard work developing the Hyperion technology.

Sincerely,

Hank Mills and Sterling D. Allan

2 photographs Of the first 1MW fusion plant
the photos and other big news look certain
to be released in the coming week.

Wake Up Planet Earth

The citizens, media networks, and governments of the world need to WAKE UP to the fact that cold fusion technology is about to revolutionize human civilization. It is sad to see that the irrational skepticism of many have resulted in this technology obtaining almost no mainstream media attention. The silence has been deafening. In a way this is a good thing, because when the technology does break through the barrier the skeptics desperately are trying to keep up, the power of the alternative media will become obvious. Simply put, the alternative media recognized and reported on this technology before 99% of the mainstream media, who obsess about much less credible things such as who the frontrunners are in the U.S. Presidential race, ignoring the giant, Ron Paul, who is garnering huge public approval for his long-proven stance on freedom, getting us out of entangling wars, ending the fed, etc. Mainstream media is a propaganda whore of the corrupt establishment. What else should we expect than silence on the most exciting energy development available? This is becoming more and more blatant and will help expose their lap-dog place in history for the powers that be that have been purposely destroying our civilization.

While the mainstream media sleeps, PESN will continue reporting about the E-Cat technology.

We should know very soon. October is when Rossi says he will have a commercial version in operation. Btw a lot of people say that any alternative to the official version of what happened on 9/11 is bollox. Doesn't mean much does it?

No really I hope you are totally right!
I beleive that free/cheaper,alternative energy technology has been suppressed.
Am not technologically minded myself - so I just want to know thats its genuine before I go posting this stuff elsewhere.

Just the fact that there hasn't been (until recently) a cleaner alternative to the internal combustion engine makes me wonder....hasn't it been basically the same for over a hundred years?

The Ultimate Ni-H Cold Fusion E-Cat Test

Andrea Rossi, the inventor of the E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer), is planning multiple upcoming tests of his technology. These tests should provide even more confirmation that the E-Cat technology is valid. The coming weeks may not be pleasant for cynics!

by Hank Mills
Pure Energy Systems News

The E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer) technology is real and works. Several tests over the last year have proven that the technology is valid, beyond any reasonable doubt. Although many of the tests were not perfect, no reasonable statement can be made refuting the fact the technology works as claimed. Hardcore cynics and skeptics have continually tried to pick out flaws in the experiments, and create problems where none exist. However, everything considered and despite any flaws, the tests clearly indicated very large gains of energy.

Currently, there are multiple tests of the E-Cat being planned that will resolve any of the imperfections in previous tests and provide evidence that no one (except for paid trolls) will be able to criticize. In these tests, there will be long periods of operation in "self sustain mode" which will show "heat after death", meaning energy production after the input power has been turned off. "Heat after death" was already demonstrated to a limited degree during the recent test performed on an E-Cat by Mats Lewan of NyTeknik. Oddly, after only 35 minutes in self sustain mode, he asked for the test to be ended. The fact the test was ended so quickly is very frustrating. Even though the 35 minutes of heat production without any input was a clear indicator of a true nuclear effect, another hour or so in self sustain mode would have produced evidence *no one* could try to shoot down.

One of these tests will be performed on the one megawatt plant when it is launched in October, which will be operating in a mostly self sustaining mode. The one megawatt plant will be composed of 52 individual reactors that each contain multiple cores. The reactors are of a new design that we do not know much about, except that the amount of lead shielding has increased, the volume of water that can be held inside has increased, the power density per cubic centimeter has stayed the same (the last model could produce a maximum of 10kW per 50cc), and the surface area of the reactor has increased (this will improve the transfer of heat from the reactor to the water).

Many scientists will be present during the test of the one megawatt plant, along with representatives from the company that is purchasing the one megawatt unit. The location of the test is not yet known, because Rossi has stated the moment someone learns where the test will be held, the identity of the well-known, big-name partner company would be easy to figure out. This test should prove to the world once and for all that the technology works as claimed. Also, the test will stream live on the internet, and will include a live feed of a power meter measuring the input power.

It has also been revealed that along with the one megawatt plant, a 5 kW E-Cat heater for use in homes will be demonstrated and tested. This device will not directly heat water, but will utilize a closed system in which water is phase changed into steam and then reused. The heat from this closed system will be transmitted through a heat exchanger that will then heat water for the home. Andrea Rossi recently mentioned a test he has performed on such a system that produced 9 kilowatts of excess output.

Dear Frank Acland:
I am referring to the small units for households too. We are very advanced. Yesterday we made a test with one of them, making hot water, we got a fantastic result. Very satisfied. What we did is make steam, exchange heat with a heating water circuit, condense the steam, recirculate the water. It worked perfectly, stable, with a power of 9 kW, also in self sustained mode. We will test publicly this system together with the 1 MW. Lot of work to do, but we are going through: the toy for the mass market is very close.
Warm Regards,
A.R.

Before the test of the one megawatt plant, another test will be performed at the University of Uppsala in Sweden. This test will also be a closed system in which the water is evaporated and re-used. The test will also demonstrate the system in self sustain mode.

Dear Pietro F:
Yes we have very big financial problems, because I have spent on this all the money I had, and sold all I had, also because the Customer we counted on could not maintain his financial engagements and this has left the ship in the middle of the ocean without oil for the engine. But we are going through, the 1 MW plant will be ready for the end of October for the test anyway, we are close.
Yes, we will organize e new very important test in Uppsala, and this time we will make the calorimetric measurements in a new way, suggested by the Professors: the steam circuit will be a closed circuit with a condenser and will exchange heat with a flow of liquid water: basically, we will have a primary circuit of the E-Cat and a secondary circuit through a radiator, and the energy will be calculated not from the delta T of the input/output of the reactor, but from the delta T of the secondary, which will exchange the heat by means of a heat exchanger. Of course the calculation of the energy produced will be in our disadvantage, because the heat exchange system has not a 100% efficiency, but I can accept it, because our energy gain is very high. The operation will be made also with self sustaining mode. We are already making this test in our factory, and the results of the energy gain are very close to the measurements we made in past. I am very satisfied.
Warm Regards,
A.R.

The most important aspects of the upcoming test in Uppsala will be that the system is closed, and the system will be demonstrated in self sustain mode (hopefully for an extended period of time). If the system is allowed to be in self sustain mode for an extended period of time with no input power, then we might see something that would give the skeptics a heart attack -- rising heat after death or "reverse thermal inertia."

E-Cat Skeptic's Doomsday -- Reverse Thermal Inertia

One argument skeptics are making about the most recent test performed is that the system was only allowed to self sustain for 35 minutes before the test was ended. Skeptics are trying to state that due to this short period of time, the energy expended that kept the water boiling was due to "thermal inertia." Simply put, they are trying to say that the heat retained in the metal and other materials in the device was enough to keep the water boiling for 35 minutes. This is absurd for many reasons.

* The materials of the E-Cat are made of materials that can store very little heat. It has been stated that for the materials to store enough heat to keep the water boiling for 35 minutes, the device would have had to weigh a ton (2,000 pounds) instead of 80 pounds.
* The steam temperature of the E-Cat only dropped about 10 C (from 130 to 120 C) over the course of 35 minutes. This indicates that a very large amount of energy was being produced via a cold fusion reaction. If there was not a cold fusion reaction taking place, the water would have stopped boiling immediately, and the temperature would have dropped much more.
* Near the end of the test, the temperature inside of the reactor started to increase. This is despite the fact the input power had not been turned back on.

The third point above is the most important when it comes to the upcoming tests on the E-Cat. If the test had been allowed to continue, the temperature of the inside of the E-Cat would have risen back up even higher AFTER decreasing. This would have demonstrated "reverse thermal inertia." Instead of the stored heat of the system slowing the decrease in temperature, the reverse would be true! If the test had been allowed to continue, the temperature would have increased. Reverse thermal inertia is impossible of course, unless free energy is being harnessed from an unknown source -- cold fusion in this case. According to physics, a device cannot simply heat up after the power is turned off. If the device is heating up, something exotic has to be taking place, like Ni-H fusion!

If a future test shows reverse thermal inertia, it will be the last nail in the coffin of the trolls, cynics, and false skeptics who have been criticizing this technology over the last year. It will also be proof of cold fusion all together, which has been attacked for two decades. Many apologies will be in order!

These upcoming tests should "seal the deal" and kick off the cold fusion revolution, and will make the next month very exciting! Stay up to date by checking back here at PESN for full coverage of this saga.

There was a short news item on bbc last night about Britains first hydrogen fuel station.
I remember 30+ years ago on Tomorrows World (it might've been) and BMW and Mercedes had already produced prototype hydrogen engined cars.
Then a few months later they said that it was too expensive to convert petrol stations to hydrogen and it was hardly mentioned ever again.

Sometimes I don't know wether to laugh or cry. :)

I have felt that way for years!! It isn't just the suppression of alternative fuels, it is the whole gamut of falsehoods which are being peddled. Fluoride (a coctail of lethal poisons in fact) in our water to protect our teeth. The banning of hemp on the spurious basis that it is a form of marijuana, when it is a fantastic source of all sorts of materials including omega3 oil. Lies to go to war for the banksters. The 9/11 official fairytale. The murder of world leaders who stand up to the banksters who are doing all this. The Man made Climate Change hoax! The deception goes on and on BUT.... there is an awakening happening and if humanity survives the next decade we are on the brink of a another "renaissance". There are reasons to be optimistic! Very Happy

Rossi's Home Sacrificed for Cold Fusion E-Cat Launch

Only several days ago, Andrea Rossi stated on his blog that he had big financial problems. Now he has revealed that these problems are resolved. To acquire the funds to insure the demo of the one megawatt plant takes place as planned, he has sold his house. The personal sacrifices he has made to bring the E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer) to the market are becoming heart wrenching.

Pure Energy Systems News

Andrea Rossi has developed a game changing technology named the E-Cat or "Energy Catalyzer." This technology utilizes nickel powder, hydrogen gas, and an undisclosed catalyst to produce vast amounts of thermal energy. The technology produces no pollution, emits no radiation into the environment, and provides the ability to produce almost limitless, dirt cheap energy. Simply put, utilizing this technology a few grams of nickel powder and a similar quantity of ordinary hydrogen gas, can replace many barrels of oil. Andrea Rossi has made many sacrifices to develop the E-Cat technology, but we have now learned he has made a sacrifice that truly pulls on the heart strings – the sale of his home.

Years ago, Andrea Rossi sold his stake in Leonardo Technologies Incorporated (not to be confused with his personal company, Leonardo Corporation) and other personal assets to raise the money needed to develop the E-Cat technology. Along with the funding he expected to receive from Defkalion Green Technologies Inc. (a company he is no longer associated with in anyway whatsoever), he expected to have enough funding to last through the launch of the one megawatt plant. However, due to Defkalion's breach of contract, and inability to make a scheduled payment, an additional source of funding was needed.

Now, only days after learning from a post on his blog that he had "big" financial problems, he has revealed to us that he has sold his house. This major personal sacrifice has been made to insure that the one megawatt plant can be completed and delivered on time for the demonstration with his partner company scheduled for the end of October.

The following post was made on his blog on September 16th, stating that he had "big" financial problems.

A previous version of this story was composed, and emailed to Andrea Rossi for his review. In particular, we asked if we might post a link where people could donate if they wanted. He responded by saying, "No, I absolutely do not want people to spend money. Do not worry, I have the money to finish the work. We do not have serious financial problems and I have all the finance necessary to do what I have to do."

Puzzled, we sent an email back, citing his September 16 blog post (above). He wrote back: "I have sold my house, now I have the money to finish the plant."

The fact that Andrea Rossi has sold his house clearly shows his steadfast dedication to his technology. His actions demonstrate that he is willing to do whatever it takes to bring the technology to the market, despite what personal sacrifices he must make. These acts of selflessness are not the actions of a scammer or conman, but those of someone who is dedicated to bringing about a better future for our species.

Andrea Rossi should be thanked for his willingness to make such significant personal sacrifices. Instead, skeptics and naysayers are still chattering on the internet, trying to grasp any imaginary straw they can, in order to find something they can use to try and tarnish his reputation. They are irrationally driven to try and discredit the technology at all costs. Thankfully, their days of being able to mock him are soon to be over. This is due to Rossi's upcoming demonstration of his one megawatt plant, a demonstration of a smaller system for home heating, a new calorimeter test of a closed system that will be performed at the University of Uppsala, and the announcement of his partner company – an entity that is stated to be an established and respected company. When these events take place in the near future, these pseudo-skeptics will be out of a job, because no one – even those sitting on the fence waiting for more information – will even take the time to read their nonsensical ramblings.

The New Partner Company

One of the most interesting revelations of the past few weeks is that Andrea Rossi has found a new partner company in the United States. He will be performing the demonstrations of the one megawatt system, and the smaller system for home use, for this company. When these systems are successfully demoed, he will receive a payment from the partner company. We do not know much about the identity of this partner company, but a few details have been revealed.

Perhaps one of the most interesting clues is that Rossi has stated the identity of the partner company will become obvious the moment the location of the demonstration is revealed. Those invited to the demonstration will receive a one week "heads up", but everyone else will only receive an advanced notice of one day. In addition, Rossi has stated this partner company is very credible and is serious about proliferating the technology. They are so serious they want to build one thousand one megawatt reactors across the United States.

Daniele Passerini of the 22 Passi blog has stated that he has been told the identity of the partner company from sources he trusts. It can be speculated that this source may be Dr. Levi of the University of Bologna, who is a close friend of his, and who is also an associate of Andrea Rossi. Here are the comments (in this post) that Daniele Passerini made about the partner company. Please note they are translated from Italian, so they are not as clear as we may have hoped.
Fortunately he found a new customer in the U.S. (if it's true what I was told, and I have no reason to doubt that is true, it is a very important customer, known and above all suspicion) that will pay Rossi upon delivery of the first 1 MW plant (working) in October. With that money Rossi will pay the University of Bologna. Rossi will deliver the E-Cat, and the search can begin.

Add that the American customer is NOT in any way as to be bamboozled. Add the test early September with that customer, which has been much talked about in here, and said that they had done in the U.S. at NASA, have actually been carried out in Bologna. Add that, from what I've been told, the test was successful: the American customer is satisfied and does not doubt that the E-Cat represents a new source of energy and not a scam, and I repeat is NOT a customer to be bamboozled in any way.

Mats Lewan made his video after the test with the American customer had already been concluded (again positively).

Please note the key phrase, "is NOT a customer to be bamboozled in any way." This is a critical sentence, which makes it clear that the partner company must be an established, experienced, and technically savvy company. My guess is that if they want to build a thousand, one megawatt reactors across the United States, and their identity is associated with a particular city, the world will be stunned when their association with Rossi is revealed. Their validation of the E-Cat technology (along with the upcoming new test in Uppsala), might be what pushes the news of nickel hydrogen fusion into the mainstream.

Significance of Self Sustained Test in Uppsala

Now we just have to wait and see what happens over the next month, as the demo of the one megawatt system approaches. Before that time, we may get a few surprises, including the new test of a closed E-Cat system performed by the University of Uppsala. This test should be quite convincing, because it will eliminate the non-issues (that the skeptics like to harp about) of phase change, steam dryness, and the amount of liquid water coming out of the system they claim is not condensed steam. In this test, the heat produced by the system will turn water into steam, allow the steam to change back into water, and the water will be re-used. A heat exchanger will be utilized, to allow the heat from this closed system to increase the temperature of a second container of water. In addition, operation in self sustain mode (no input power going to the resistance heaters) will be demonstrated.

The self sustaining mode of operation was demonstrated in the recent test of a new model of E-Cat performed by Mats Lewan of NyTeknik, but very strangely the test was requested to be terminated only after 35 minutes of operation in this mode.

Hopefully, in this upcoming test, the system will be allowed to operate in self sustain mode – without any input power – for as long as it can continue producing heat. During this time period, we will probably see cyclic variations in the heat produced by the system. This is very important, because if the test shows the heat being produced by the system INCREASING after previously decreasing, this would totally rule out the arguments of the skeptics. They claim the heat exhibited in self sustain mode is due to the "thermal inertia" of the system. This is the idea that the stored heat in the materials is enough to keep producing heat for a period of time. However, for this to be true (which it is not), the temperature of the system must continually decrease, to abide by the principle of entropy. If the system increases in temperature, it would represent a "reverse thermal inertia" which is impossible – unless something exotic like cold fusion is taking place.

So to anyone who is involved in the test who is reading this..

PLEASE LET THE PERIOD OF SELF SUSTAIN MODE WITH NO INPUT POWER CONTINUE FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE, UNTIL THE REACTIONS CEASE.

If the above is allowed to take place, it will be the last straw of evidence that breaks the back of the hardcore pseudo-skeptics. It will also convince all of the honest skeptics who have been "sitting on the fence" and have simply been waiting for more information.

Thank You Mr. Rossi

I would personally like to thank Mr. Andrea Rossi for all the personal sacrifices of time, money, and personal property he has made to bring this technology to the marketplace. If there is a form of karma in the universe -- that rewards those who make sacrifices for others -- I hope that he is rewarded beyond measure.

I agree. I think 911 could turn into be an election issue....
And the powers that be have underestimated the power o tinternet and peoples intelligence.
Am always asking anyone of thier opinions and the general idea I get is that most people don't trust the official story.
And I've been surprised and encouraged at how many young people are onto it.
I've been banging on about 911 for ages to a good friend ,who although open-minded , has had difficulty beleiving the truth about 911.Although I've not seen it in its entirety,I recommended ZERO.He called me the other day all excited saying 'Its amazing that anyone beleived the offical story right from the start'.....but so many of us have been conditioned from birth to beleive authority so...thats how they've gotten away with it(so far :)

Reasons to be Cheerful !

The 2011 Cold Fusion Colloquium Report Published

This June 11th and 12th, the 2011 "Cold Fusion - Lattice Assisted Nuclear Reactions Colloquium" was held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. At the meeting twenty three presentations were made, and a report has been issued detailing what took place.

by Hank Mills
Pure Energy Systems News

Cold Fusion is a topic that inspires hope in some individuals, and skepticism in others. Since the year 1989, the fact that nuclear reactions can take place at low temperatures has been suppressed by the mainstream scientific community. To protect the status quo of mainstream science, and to preserve the thousands of jobs provided by billion dollar "hot fusion" research projects, many scientists have tried to discredit cold fusion research all together. However, cold fusion has overcome the forces that have fought to silence it, and the evidence in support of its existence is now overwhelming. Evidence in support of cold fusion was presented at the 2011 Cold Fusion Colloquium.

During the colloquium at MIT twenty three presentations were held, many of which were made by big names in the cold fusion community. Some of the researchers that attended were Dr. Brian Ahern of MIT, Dr. Mitchell Swartz, Professor Peter Hagelstein, Dr. Francis Tanzella, and others. In addition, over seventy individuals attended the conference. The conference room used for the event was at capacity.

Many topics were discussed, including the topic of Andrea Rossi's E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer), other recent successful tests of cold fusion reactors, and the potential of Cold Fusion technology. It was stated that cold fusion has the potential to a source of clean energy that could help eliminate pollution. It was stated that a cold fusion system that utilized deuterium instead of ordinary hydrogen, could replace 54,000 tons of coal with only six pounds of heavy water. The potential of cold fusion is staggering. It could change the world!

A two part report about the meeting has been issued. It contains all the details about the presentations that were made. Here are the links to Part 1 and Part 2.

It is fantastic to see that cold fusion research is advancing at such a rapid rate. Although Andrea Rossi's nickel hydrogen technology seems to be leading the pack, there are many other variations of cold fusion technology being developed. Whether or not Andrea Rossi's technology hits the market place soon, which it is on track to do, another variation of cold fusion is going to do so.

Perhaps the most important fact that can be learned from this conference is that cold fusion is real. It is not a hoax or scam. When are the mainstream scientific community and mainstream media going to catch on?

To help answer the question of why the mainstream scientific community is so antagonistic to cold fusion, here is a documentary. Martin Fleishmann calls that unfounded antagonism: "pathological skepticism."

Nobel Prize Laureate to Test Cold Fusion E-Cat

Brian Josephson, a physicist and Nobel Prize laureate, will be cooperating with invited scientists from around the world to perform an important test on Andrea Rossi's E-Cat on October 6th. This test will be held at the University of Uppsala and should hopefully erase all doubt about the validity of the Energy Catalyzer technology.

by Hank Mills
Pure Energy Systems News

There have been many tests of Andrea Rossi's E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer) this year. They have inspired hope that the technology is real and work as claimed. However, some of the tests were not as well thought out as they could have been, and hence left issues for the skeptics to point out. In the near future, these "issues" may become "non-issues" due to an upcoming test of the E-Cat that will be performed by Noble Prize laureate Brian Josephson, and scientists invited from around the world.

This test -- to be held on Oct. 6 -- will try to resolve some of the issues with previous tests that have created controversy. A few of these issues include the dryness of steam, the phase shifting of water from liquid to steam, the concept of thermal inertia, the ability of the system to self sustain with no input, and the length of the tests that have been performed.

The following is a list of what we know so far about the upcoming test.

* It will be a test of the new model of E-Cat module that will be used in the one megawatt plant.
* The module will be opened so the scientists present can measure the weight and volume of all components.
* It will be an extended test of at least 12 hours, but maybe longer.
* The ability of the system to run in a self sustaining mode of operation will be tested.
* There will be two circuits of water, and a heat exchanger that will transfer heat between the two circuits. The first circuit will be closed, and the water in it will be continually recycled. This eliminates the issue of steam dryness.
* The test will be biased against the E-Cat, because some of the heat produced by the reactor will be lost. This is because the efficiency of the heat exchanger will be less than 100%.
* Scientists from around the world have been invited to attend this test.
* Radiation measurements will be taken to show that no radiation is escaping from the reactor.

It is important to note that the new model of E-Cat module has significant differences from the previous model. Inside the module, there are multiple reactor cores. Rossi has stated that these reactor cores have the same power density as his previous model of E-Cat (the previous reactor cores were rated at 2.5 kilowatts in 50cc of volume), although the new reactor cores have a different volume. All together, the reactor cores in the new module can produce an output of 27 kilowatts, but for safety and stability purposes, the output will be limited to one third of that.

Another difference between the new module and the previous one is that there are two layers of lead instead of just one. This improves the safety of the system, because if one layer of shielding breaks, there will be another to stop any radiation.

Andrea Rossi's and Brian Josephson's Comments

Both Andrea Rossi and Brian Josephson have made comments about the upcoming test. In addition, Rossi has made multiple comments about his new E-Cat module. In this section of the article, we will provide the comments that have been made.

Here is a statement from Brian Josephson about the upcoming test.
http://22passi.blogspot.com/2011/09/test-e-cat-col-nobel-brian-josephs on-il.html

On October 6th we will have the opportunity to make a long [run] (more then 12 hours) of testing one of the modules of the RC 1 MW generator. The module will be Opened to us and we will have the opportunity to verify weights and volumes of the internal components. Heat measurements will be done at condensing the steam produced in heat exchanger and a secondary circuit where no water will be vaporized. This is NOT an official test of the University of Bologna because the contract is not active yet.

Brian Josephson

(Note that there is some confusion as to whether this was a statement from Brian Josephson, or if he was posting a statement made by Dr. Levi. However, Daniele Passerini confirms Josephson will be attending.)

Here are a few statements (slightly edited) from Rossi about the same test, and the new model of E-Cat, plus a bit of information about a "Fat Cat" E-Cat that has not yet been revealed.

Dear Italo:

I confirm
The energy measurements will be made only on the water heated by the reactor’s primary circuit in the heat exchanger that will heat the water using the steam made by the reactor. The steam will be in a closed loop and will be condensed by the heat exchanger. One thermometer will be put along the water circuit at the input of the heat exchanger and one thermometer will be put at the exit of the heat exchanger so that the delta T to calculate the energy will be taken only from the liquid water flow of the secondary circuit. This of course will penalize us, because some energy will be lost in the heat exchange, but the energy we produce is so high that we can accept it. The E-Cat will work also in self sustained mode. We have invited selected scientists from Sweden, USA, France, G.B., Germany, Italy, Greece, Japan, China, Russia.

Every component of the circuit will be inspected and weighed before the test, and also external measures will be taken of the reactors. The test will last at least 12 hours. At the end, all the components will be again disassembled, weighed, etc. Measurements will be taken from a specialist expert to be certain that no radiations modify substantially the background radiations of the room.

Warm Regards,
A.R.

Dear MT:

Thank you for your important question, I already answered to these questions, but when it turns into safety, repetitions are useful.

1- The E-Cats we will put in the market will be regulated to work at 1/3 of their power, and they will work in conditions of stability. This is why they will not work only in self sustained mood, but will maintain a drive. If the stability is lost, automatically the pressure inside the reactor will be zeroed and the E-Cat will be turned off, as we have experienced in thousands of tests. But there is an intrinsic safety system: if the temperature goes above the stability limit, an essential component of the charge will melt, and at this point, not being in the status of powder, the reactor cannot work.

2- As you know, we do not use radioactive materials and we do not produce radioactive wastes, therefore no radiations are left when the E-Cat is turned off. By the way: we have a double shield of lead, and it is impossible that the 2 walls break at the same time. It is absolutely impossible that the E-Cat is opened during the operation, because it is tightly sealed with multiple casing, and each case is very difficult to be opened not intentionally. As for the reactor, it is impossible to be opened, if not by our specialized personnel. The opening of the reactor has been made impossible both for safety and security reasons. In fact, to change the charge, we change the whole reactor, and the recharge will be made in our factories.

Warm Regards,
A.R.

Dear Enrico Billi:
The Swedish test will be very important, because we will make the primary circuit of steam produced by the reactor exchange heat with a secondary water circuit, while the steam will be condensed and the condensed water will be recycled to the reactor. The measure of energy will be made on the base of the delta T between the water that exits from the heat exchanger and the water that enters in the same heat exchanger, so that the energy is calculated independently from the steam circuit. Of course the heat exchanger heats the water in counter current with the steam. The delta T will be data logged and the water flow will be measured by means of a flow meter. We are already making this test on the modules of the 1 MW plant, and the results are the same as before. This system is ready for household application, because this is, basically, a water boiler.

Warm Regards,
A.R.

(No lidele, lavolale, lavolale!)

Events seem to be accelerating as October approaches. In addition to the test of the one megawatt system and the home heating system, the upcoming test in Uppsala on October 6th should be very important in putting to rest any doubts about the E-Cat technology. If the results are positive, I wonder if the mainstream media will yet ignore them, or finally admit that cold fusion is a reality?

Introduction

On October 6th of 2011, a very important test of Andrea Rossi's E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer) will take place in the city of Bologna, Italy. Attending the test will be invited scientists from around the world, including staff from the University of Bologna.

This test may be the most important so far, due to the fact many of the issues that remain unresolved in previous tests, will potentially be resolved. For example, one issue that remained unresolved in tests earlier this year was the issue of steam quality. In this test, the quality of steam will not be an issue. This is because the output of the E-Cat will be a closed circuit, in that the water will be turned into steam, allowed to heat a second flow of water through a heat exchanger, be recycled, and then used again. By removing this issue, the most controversial subject of debate will be eliminated.

Additional issues are also expected to be resolved by this test.

- The E-Cat module will be taken apart (except for the reactor core) so the components can be measured and weighed.

- The test will last for 12 hours or longer.

- The E-Cat module will be allowed to operate in self sustain mode -- with no input power -- for an extended period of time.

- Better measurement and data acquisition techniques will be utilized.

For the next few days, all news and information about the test will be posted below, in as close to real time as possible. Please share and spread the link to this webpage, as we plan to be providing top notch coverage of this pivotal test of the E-Cat.

(BTW, I will be around to answer questions in the comment section.)

E-Cat Test Validates Cold Fusion Despite Challenges

The test of the E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer) that took place on October 6, 2011 in Italy has validated Andrea Rossi's claim that the device produces excess energy via a novel Cold Fusion nuclear reaction. Despite its success, the test was flawed, and could have been done in a way that produced more spectacular results -- as if confirmation of cold fusion is not already stunning enough.

by Hank Mills
for Pure Energy Systems News

Andrea Rossi has made big claims for the past year, about his cold fusion "E-Cat" (Energy Catalyzer) technology. He has claimed that it produces vast amounts of energy via a safe and clean low energy nuclear reaction that consumes only tiny amounts of nickel and hydrogen. A series of tests had been performed earlier this year that seemed to confirm excess energy is produced by the systems tested. Some of the tests were particularly impressive, such as one that lasted eighteen hours, and was performed by Dr. Levi of the University of Bologna. Unfortunately, the tests were not planned out as well as they could have been and had flaws.

The most recent test that took place on October 6, 2011 in Bologna, Italy, was supposed to address many of the concerns about the previous tests, and be performed in a way that would put to rest many issues that had been discussed continually on the internet. Despite showing clear evidence of excess energy -- which is absolutely fantastic -- this most recent test failed to live up to its full potential. It was a big success in that it validated the claim the E-Cat produces excess energy via cold fusion, but it was not nearly as successful as it could have been. Or as successful as we, the outsiders looking in, would like for it to have been.

Following Bologna Test, Andrea Rossi Works Towards 1 MW Plant Launch, Seeks Help in Designing an E-Cat “For the People”

Following the recent Bologna E-Cat test, Andrea Rossi is looking ahead to furthering his development of the E-Cat. He seems satisfied with the results of the Bologna test; his only public comments about it have been in an email to PESWiki where he said that it performed according to his standards. He stated:

“PLEASE EXPLAIN THAT BEFORE THE SELF SUSTAINING MODE THE REACTOR WAS ALREADY PRODUCING ENERGY MORE THAN IT CONSUMED, SO THAT THE ENERGY CONSUMED IS NOT LOST, BUT TURNED INTO ENERGY ITSELF, THEREFORE IS NOT PASSIVE. ANOTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION: IF YOU LOOK CAREFULLY AT THE REPORT, YOU WILL SEE THAT THE SPOTS OF DRIVE WITH THE RESISTANCE HAVE A DURATION OF ABOUT 10 MINUTES, WHILE THE DURATION OF THE SELF SUSTAINING MODES IS PROGRESSIVELY LONGER, UNTIL IT ARRIVES TO BE UP TO HOURS. BESIDES, WE PRODUCED AT LEAST 4.3 kWh/h FOR ABOUT 6 HOURS AND CONSUMED AN AVERAGE OF 1.3 kWh/h FOR ABOUT 3 HOURS, SO THAT WE MADE IN TOTAL DURING THE TEST 25.8 kWh AND CONSUMED IN TOTAL DURING THE TEST 3.9 kWh. iN THE WORST POSSIBLE SCENARIO, WHICH MEANS NOT CONSIDERING THAT THE CONSUME IS MAINLY MADE DURING THE HEATING OF THE REACTOR DURING THE FIRST 2 HOURS, WE CAN CONSIDER THAT THE WORST POSSIBLE RATIO IS 25.8 : 3.9 AND THIS IS THE COP 6 WHICH WE ALWAYS SAID. OF COURSE, THE COP IS BETTER, BECAUSE, OBVIOUSLY, THE REACTOR, ONCE IN TEMPERATURE, NEEDS NOT TO BE HEATED AGAIN FROM ROOM TEMPERATURE TO OPERATIONAL TEMPERATURE.”

There has been considerable debate from the E-Cat following public as to whether the Bologna test was convincing or not, and there are a wide range of opinions about it’s success. Some people say it was an unmitigated failure, others seeing it was entirely convincing, and there are a host of opinions in between those two extremes. (Check comments on this site for examples!)

“The E-Cat basic module “for the People”, that we will put in commerce within months, will be 40 cm long, 40 cm large, 40 cm high, will weight 60 kg, the shape of a cube. I need a design cheap ( I want to put it in commerce at a price of 500 euros per kW) but nice, very nice. I will buy the design which I will choose and everybody has my honour word that I will not use designs not paid. I need it within two months.
Go to the report of Nyteknik (google “Nyteknic E-Cat Test October 6″) to see the pipes position: that will be it.
Please send proposals to info@leonardocorp1996.com
I am sure that from the enthusiasm od our Readers will pop up a masterpiece.”

Rossi’s business plans are still a mystery, and he’s surely taking an unconventional approach by looking for help at this point from the general public — but that is his style. No one can accuse Rossi of being conventional! Perhaps this little square box will be Rossi’s equivalent of the Model T — a cheap and simple machine that will be able to provide heat (perhaps in time electricity) to the general population. Maybe the idea is that just like with his 1 MW plant, you will be able to connect multiple boxes together to ramp up power capabilities.

There is still plenty of mystery surrounding this work — how Rossi is going to pull everything together is still unclear, especially now we hear that the US launch may not happening. Rossi has not, however announced a delay — we’re still looking at the last week in October and Rossie seems to be forging ahead with determination to do what he has said he is going to do.

1 MW E-Cat Cold Fusion Device Test Successful

On October 28, 2011, Andrea Rossi demonstrated his 1 megawatt E-Cat system to his first customer, who had engineers/scientists on hand to test/validate its performance. Due to a glitch, it provided 470 kW of continuous power for 5.5 hours during the self-sustained mode.

By Sterling D. Allan (who was present), with Hank Mills
Pure Energy Systems News

Well, the big day has come and gone. Andrea Rossi's one-megawatt-capable E-Cat cold fusion device has been tested in Bologna, Italy; and the unknown customer, who ran the test, is apparently happy.

There were some issues, so it couldn't be run at full power in self-looped mode, but what it did do was plenty impressive.

It ran for 5.5 hours producing 470 kW, while in self-looped mode. That means no substantial external energy was required to make it run, because it kept itself running, even while producing an excess of nearly half a megawatt. Rossi explained the reasons for this in the presentation he gave, which I videotaped and will be posting later.

That's half the rated capacity, but it is still a major accomplishment for the device that was completed earlier this week -- the first of its kind on the planet.

Early in the day with a glitch showing up, Rossi said that they had to make a decision about whether to go for 1 MW output, not in self-sustain mode, or with self-sustain mode at a lower power level. The customer opted to go for the self-sustain mode. Nothing was said about the prospects of a follow-up test, though I would imagine that the customer will be running many tests to understand this gadget they have purchased, and that information will be conveyed to Rossi.

When I asked him during the Q&A session if the customer was satisfied with the test, Rossi responded, "Yes, I think they are satisfied."

Here is a brief video excerpt highlight from Rossi during his 1-hour reading of the public report from the customer, followed by a question and answer session. I recorded the entire presentation, and we'll post that tomorrow, hopefully along with a transcription. Half the time was in Italian, as he would address each item in Italian as well as English.

Link

In this excerpt, Rossi responds to the question, "So, is this a breakthrough?"

Here's a transcription of the excerpt video:

Mister Sonya has asked me if I think that the test of today is a breakthrough. I think yes, because I think today we have seen enough. No more small five or ten kilowatt units, but now we have overcame the [cannot understand].... disconnected. The basic engineering to make something that....

You know, to go in self sustain mode and make 400 [actually 470] kilowatt hours per hour... To understand that this is a breakthrough...

You can also think that hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent to try to have a COP of 1.1 with nuclear fusion. Today we have made a theoretically endless COP making 470 kilowatt hour per hour of completely free energy, free of fuel. Yes, I think this is a breakthrough.

Of course this is the first step, but it is a very important first step....

Early this year Andrea Rossi announced his plans to construct and test the world's first one megawatt cold fusion plant. The plant would utilize his E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer) technology that utilizes tiny quantities of nickel powder and hydrogen gas as fuel, while producing large amounts of energy in the form of heat. Importantly, the energy is produced without emitting any pollution, utilizing any radioactive materials, or producing any nuclear waste. Simply put, the E-Cat offers the world a source of cheap, safe, and clean energy. Although the exact plans for the launch of the technology were adjusted a few times throughout the course of this year, October 28th, 2011 was settled on for the date of the official test of the one megawatt plant by the first customer.

These first plants will cost around $2,000 per kilowatt to build one at a time, but once they are mass produced, Rossi expects the price to drop to around $100 per kilowatt installed.

Attendance at this test was limited for several reasons. First, the customer does not wish to be known at this time, nor to have its test engineers/scientists identified. I did not inadvertently discover the customer's identify, nor did I try to find out. I gave that group their space and did not probe. Second, the device is a nuclear device, and the regulations for a public demonstration are extremely stringent; so by making the event private, and only bringing one or two at a time to see it was a way to get around the safety requirements.

Most of us (around 30 guests total) arrived between 9 and 10 am; and by around 11 am, Rossi began taking people back to see the device while it was in operation, in self-sustained mode. Here's a video I shot, with Rossi's permission, during my 2-3 minute chance to see the unit during operation:

Link

A neighboring facility, coincidentally, is named "Rossi", which is a common name in Italy.

Professor Levi, who was Rossi's right-hand man today, will be heading the Bologna research on the E-Cat.

Power for start-up (resistive coils that provided heat to the reaction chambers) was provided by the large and loud genset (was making all the noise) you see that is nearly as large as the small shipping container in which the 1 MW E-Cat plant was arranged. Once the reaction chambers got up to temperature, they were maintained by the heat produced by the reaction. I'm not sure why they kept the generator running after that, but I would guess it was for back-up or safety. I'm sure the engineers testing the system made sure what the power levels were at all times.

There were 100 E-Cat modules, each with 3 reaction chambers in them, for a total of 300 reaction chambers. An additional 20 or so units had been installed on the top of the shipping container, compared to the earlier photos and videos we had seen. Steam was produced by the units and exited through the back in the bottom of the two pipes. The steam was not put to use to run a load but the heat was dumped via two radiators, distilled, and circulated back into the system. When looking inside the plant, I noticed that one of the E-Cat units had a little steam escaping from the front of it.

The top pipe in the back, which was closed, was for emergency cool-down, if needed.

Each unit was run independently through a computerized control. The input and output temperature readings were recorded by computer, and the data will be provided to us probably later this evening or tomorrow morning. When I went by there, I think the input was measuring 19 C, and the output was 109 C.

Radiation measurements were taken by Dr. Bianchini David, from the University of Bologna. He said no extraneous radiation was detected at any time emanating from the reaction chambers, or from the piping, or from the water tanks, or in the vicinity of the apparatus. Apparently, gamma radiation is produced during the reaction, which is shielded by water, iron, lead, and a final coating on the apparatus. David said that he has not measured gamma radiation from the device, because he has not had access to the reaction chamber while it has been unshielded.

None of the units were taken apart following this test, as was the one back on the October 6 test. I asked Rossi whether any radio frequencies were used in the test, and he said "no".

I would estimate that there were about 12 people assisting with the test arrangement, including: 3-4 security guards, 1 caterer, 2 receptionists who checked to make sure everyone was invited and wore the required badges, 3-4 engineers helping take measurements, Foccardi was helping take guests 1-2 at a time back to see the unit.

I especially enjoyed mingling with the other guests, including: Mats Lewan from NyTeknik; Irene Zreick from Focus.it; Peter Svensson, Technology Writer for the Associated Press, NY, who told me that the reason the mainstream press hasn't been covering this is because Rossi has been very picky about who he lets in; Enrico Billi, a nuclear physicist and friend of Rossi's, who is presently living in China and helping to open doors there for this technology; Professor Christos Stremmenos, from the University of Bologna, who told me all about his theory of how the technology works; Pierre Clauzon, nuclear engineering professor from France, who told me about several theoretical physicists trying to understand cold fusion in general and the E-Cat in particular; Uzikova Irina, a nuclear plant designer from Russia; Stefan Heglesson, representing a Swedish interest in the technology; Loris Ferrari, Associate Professor of Condensed Matter Physics from the University of Bologna, who will be one of the five professors to do the two year test of the E-Cat, which hopefully will be funded as a result of today's test. They will study both the "how" and the "why" of the technology.

Mats and I agreed to post our stories at the same time. Peter was going to go first, having been given an exclusive by Rossi, but it's going to be a few days before he gets the necessary info and editorial approvals before he's able to run a story in the Associated Press.

Probably the biggest opening for skeptics will be the continually running genset that is probably rated for 500 kW (my guess), and appears to have been connected by cables to the E-Cat. "Where's the mystery?" So knock yourselves out, skeptics. It's the customer who has to be happy, and apparently this one was satisfied that those cables were not contributing to the 470 kW output during self-sustaining mode.

Here's a video where Rossi talks to us briefly following the test, saying that a report will come shortly; and giving us the reason for why we couldn't go back during the test except 1-2 at a time.

And here's a video of a couple of 1 MW generators that were in the room where we were hanging out, which were from an earlier project Rossi was involved with, running on biofuel.

Cold Fusion: Future of physics or phoney?
By David Hambling
28 October 11

Today is set to be the start of a new era of cheap power, as a new type of low-cost nuclear reactor goes live in front of an audience of scientists and media representatives in Bologna. Once the mystery customer who commissioned the device has confirmed that it really is producing one megawatt, they'll pay the developer, Andrea Rossi.

Unless, of course, it all goes horribly wrong.

Rossi's "energy catalyser" or E-Cat is based on a Low Energy Nuclear Reaction which produces vast quantities of energy from a few grams of hydrogen. Otherwise known as Cold Fusion, it's a field largely shunned by mainstream physicists. Rossi's work may have a significant number of followers, but it's still extremely controversial and some critics accuse him of outright fraud.

A demonstration earlier this month in Bologna with a smaller E-Cat was intended to answer some of the criticisms. Previously, Rossi had used the E-Cat to produce steam; this has led to arguments about the measurement method used to determine the weight and temperature of the steam. In a demonstration on 6 October, an E-Cat with a heat exchanger warmed a quantity of water. After initial electrical input from an external source, the E-Cat ran in "self-sustaining" mode for three and a half hours.

According to an analysis of the data produced during the demonstration by Matts Lewan of Swedish science magazine NyTeknik, during the self-sustained mode the E-Cat was producing between two and three kilowatts of power, apparently generating energy with no input. According to the Italian edition of Focus magazine, the scientists attending gave a standing ovation at the end of the demonstration.

However, Steven B Krivit, editor of New Energy Times and one of Rossi's staunchest critics remains unconvinced. His report on the 6 October test was headlined "E-Cat Test Demonstrates Energy Loss" because his method of calculation shows that during the experiment as a whole, including the warm-up period, the total energy output was less than the energy input.

Others dispute this and claim there was a net gain. Bob Higgins of Motorola Solutions carried out an analysis indicating the device output over thirty kilowatt-hours for an input of nine kilowatt hours.

There were criticisms of the methods used to measure the temperature of the water, and the fact that the demonstration only went on for a few hours. By running the E-Cat for 30 hours, Rossi might have conclusively disproved suggestions that the E-Cat simply contains hidden batteries or other power sources in its thick shielding. Rossi countered that if he had used more sophisticated computerising measurements, people could have claimed that the data was being faked, and that a 30-hour demonstration would be too long for any audience.

"Enough is enough with the tests, you go on the market and customers speak for us," he told Focus (translation from Italian).

And that's the important thing about the 28 October test: for the first time it will be carried out by the customer's consultants, not by Rossi himself. The customer, apparently a large US company which has declined to be identified, will be measuring for itself whether the E-Cat does what it says before it will pay for it. Rossi has claimed that the device will output six times as much energy as it consumes. If it fails to perform, Rossi will not get paid and the customer will doubtless remain anonymous to avoid the inevitable bad publicity. If it succeeds, the customer might reveal itself to take credit for financing the biggest breakthrough in energy production of the modern era.

There is a lot at stake for Rossi personally. He has reportedly sold his house in order to fund development work, and has been working 16- or 18-hour days for the last few months to get everything ready for the demonstration. The exact design has changed repeatedly; originally the one-megawatt generator was to be composed of three hundred small E-Cats, then it was 52 larger "fat cats", now the number seems to be 43.

On Sunday, Rossi claimed on his blog that the one-megawatt plant was being tested for the first time, and that it was working well.

Meanwhile, the E-Cat is beginning to be noticed by the mainstream media, with articles in Forbes and the US National Reviewonline edition. While few appear to have much faith in the E-Cat, it's might be compared to buying a lottery ticket: the chances of a success are low, but the prize is gigantic.

Energy costs are a big problem for many people, and the UK government recently expressed concern over domestic heating bills. After the October test, Rossi proposed as his own solution: a home E-Cat, a cube measuring 40 centimetres a side, which will produce all the heating and hot water you want. (Think "Mr Fusion" Home Energy Reactor in Back To The Future). His target cost is 500 euros per kilowatt, so replacing a typical boiler with an E-Cat would cost about £6,000 -- but you could then leave the heating on 24/7 and never see a fuel bill again. Rossi claims it could be on the market within months, though one suspects that there might be regulatory issues with people have nuclear reactors in the homes.

Cheap fusion power would transform economies, and con-artists play on the dream of free energy. But fraudsters usually keep asking for a bit more money to complete their invention and keep delaying the actual proof. It would be a very bold fraudster who offered to let a customer test their magic energy-maker for themselves before getting hold of the money. And fooling people with a few hidden batteries is one thing; faking a one-megawatt power plant under close scrutiny would surely be impossible.

Or would it?

Rossi says that today the experimental results will be updated hour-by-hour, with a full report and video at midnight. Will it be a triumphant success, or an abject failure? Or will there be endless squabbling about measurements and standards, allegations of cheating or sabotage?

We'll know by the weekend.

On October 28th of 2011, Sterling Allan, the founder of PESN, attended the test of the world's first one megawatt, E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer) cold fusion reactor. After the successful test, he attended a gathering in which the inventor, Andrea Rossi read the official public report about the test, and answered the questions of those who attended. Sterling Allan shot a video of the reading of the report and of the Q and A. We present here the video along with transcriptions of each part.

Rossi was conscientious to give all his information in both English and Italian, though there may be some additional info or clarifications available for those who might know both languages. Only the English portions of the video are transcribed here. If any of our readers would be willing to transcribe and translate the Italian portions that clarify or add to what was said in English, we would tremendously appreciate that.

In the near future PESN will provide a more technical report on the test of the one megawatt plant.

So stay tuned to PESN for more coverage of this historic event!

This page is a copy of the page at Wikipedia:Energy_Catalyzer, which is up for deletion, as of November 1, 2011. "This is another free energy scam with a lot of self-promotional publicity but no science behind it." See our directory page here at Directory:Andrea A. Rossi Cold Fusion Generator (E-Cat)

I should say that it does not surprise me at all that Wikipedia would put this article on the chopping block. They are very mainstream and won't touch anything that is cutting edge, and especially not something that is bleeding edge.
When I first found out about Wikipedia back in December 2004, I was really excited and began posting content there. Every page I posted was deleted for being too "unsubstantiated," even when I was quoting original sources. They wanted a citation from the New York Times.
That is what spurred me to commenced PESWiki in August 2005, when I found a couple of guys at the TeslaTech conference who knew how to do it.
What I think of when I think of Wikipedia is a commercial pen crammed full of domesticated turkeys who have never know life in the wild, and whose existence is for one purpose: getting fattened for slaughter. Not only are we wild here are PESWiki, but we are like eagles in comparison to the turkeys of Wikipedia. Trying to reason with someone at Wikipedia is a waste of time. They are a bunch of slaves to the powers that be, and they can't comprehend the freedom we enjoy here.
Now, here's something interesting. Check out their traffic over the past year: http://www.quantcast.com/wikipedia.org It is down by 13% while ours is holding steady: http://www.quantcast.com/peswiki.com Gratefully, the mainstream is loosing ground. People are going where the action and life is. -- SilverThunder 10:09, 1 November 2011 (PDT)

If Wikipedia does delete that page, then we can clean up the content down below so it reads well. We have an older version of the Mediawiki software, and I guess the references are not set up the same way

The rest of this article can be viewed at the above link.

This does it for me!! Any remaining doubt I had about the authenticity of the "E-Cat" has evaporated after reading what Wikipedia has to say. There can be no doubt that the PTB are suppressing any alternative to oil or the other scams they run to keep us energy dependent.
