how certain are people that they are removing alternative information as oppose to violent and offensive hatred?
ive long said youtube needs some sort of moderation(not on here), if you read some of the comments and see some of the things people put on there you soon see something needs to be done.
i understand the concerns but untill some sort of proof can be shown they are taking down none offensive material and targetting alternative information its hard to know wether to see this storey as a bad thing or a good thing.
remember its a family site and targets all age groups. even this site has some form of moderation, youtube dos'nt, it relys on other people to flag things up, it seems they are changing their policy. but what are they targetting?

Oh yeah, YouTube, please stop censoring the view counters on these videos, it is beyond obvious now and just about every YouTube user knows that you fiddle the view counters to keep videos like this off the most-viewed lists. Why bother when it is just so blatantly obvious?

The following notice has appeared on Wikipedia today when many UK users attempt to edit content:
"Wikipedia has been added to a Internet Watch Foundation UK website blacklist, and your Internet service provider has decided to block part of your access. Unfortunately, this also makes it impossible for us to differentiate between different users, and block those abusing the site without blocking other innocent people as well."
According to discussions on the Wikipedia administrators noticeboard, this is because a transparent proxy has been enabled for customers of Virgin Media, Be/O2/Telefonica, EasyNet/UK Online, PlusNet, Demon and Opal. This has two effects: users cannot see content filtered by the proxies, and all user traffic passing through the proxies is given a single IP address per proxy. As Wikipedia's anti-vandalism system blocks users by IP address, one single case of vandalism by a single UK user prevents all users on that user's ISP from editing. The effect is to block all editing from anonymous UK users on that list of ISPs. Registered users can continue to edit.
The content being filtered is apparently that deemed to meet the Internet Watch Foundation's critera for child pornography – in one case, this involves a 1970s LP cover art which, although controversial, is still widely available.
Reports on the admin noticeboard say that this filtering is easy to circumvent, either by using Wikipedia's secure server or by sending a request to find the page via parameters in the URL. However, no fix has been found – nor is one expected – for the proxy address problem.

That’s because the change will enable the wealthy to “quickly take over the high speed transmissions (for their trash commercial content) just as they completely monopolize radio and TV, and just as their incredibly greedy profit-seeking has had a very deleterious effect on print journalism,” writes Lawrence Velvel, dean of the Massachusetts School of Law at Andover.
Velvel’s plea for “internet neutrality” comes in his new book “An Enemy of The People,” subtitled “The Unending Battle Against Conventional Wisdom(Doukathsan).” Essentially, he writes, the proposed change is an “attempt by the wealthy to make the internet into yet another repository of their power…”
Under the new scheme sought by transmission firms, Velvel writes, “large companies would pay more, no doubt a lot more, in order to have their messages, videos, audios, and any other content transmitted rapidly. The rest of us peasants, who could not afford to have our content move fast, would pay less and have it move more slowly.”
“One can be sure that the average guy with something he wants to say will be relegated to lower speed transmissions,” Velvel writes. “Blogdom, and the use of the internet by average people for political purposes, will likely be as good as dead.”
According to Save The Internet.com(STI):
“The nation’s largest telephone and cable companies — including AT&T, Verizon, Comcast and Time Warner — want to be Internet gatekeepers, deciding which Web sites go fast or slow and which won’t load at all.”
“What we have here,” Velvel explained, “is a bunch of unregenerate capitalists, who think that nothing else is important except trying to make as much as they can conceivably get away with. As with the oil companies and the investments banks, huge profit margins and scores of millions annually for their chairmen and CEOs isn’t enough for them. They want more. Always more. Nothing else matters to them. The pipes (transmission) companies are no different.”
Velvel pointed out, “The average guy can’t be published in a newspaper, and cannot afford the money to pay to be on radio or television. His voice is limited. The great benefit of the internet, the reason it bade fair to be the new version of the poor man’s printing press (which is what picketing and marching were once called), is that it gave everyone a chance to have his or her say in a way that was immediately available to anyone who found it or knew of it and wanted to read it.”
“That is why tens of millions of blogs sprang up,” Velvel continued, “with (at least) many thousands of them being on political subjects, and with blogdom sometimes having major political impacts.”
Others besides Velvel have also commented on efforts to destroy net neutrality. As a consequence of a 2005 decision by the Bush Federal Communications Commission, Internet Neutrality, “the foundation of the free and open internet — was put in jeopardy,” STI says. “Now cable and phone company lobbyists are pushing to block legislation that would reinstate Net Neutrality.”
“Without Net Neutrality, startups and entrepreneurs will be muscled out of the marketplace by big corporations that pay for a top spot on the Web,” STI says.
“If Congress turns the Internet over to the telephone and cable giants, everyone who uses the Internet will be affected,” STI continues. “Connecting to your office could take longer if you don’t purchase your carrier’s preferred applications. Sending family photos and videos could slow to a crawl. Web pages you always use for online banking, access to health care information, planning a trip, or communicating with friends and family could fall victim to pay-for-speed schemes.”
STI warned the consequences of abandoning Internet Neutrality would be “devastating.” “Innovation would be stifled, competition limited, and access to information restricted. Google is in “late stage” talks to buy the microblogging service Twitter, according to reports on the influential technology blog TechCrunch.
Michael Arrington, editor of the site, says that “two separate people, close to the negotiations” have told him that Google is on the verge of acquiring Twitter. He says that he does not know how much the deal will be worth, but expects it to be well in excess of the $250 million valuation that Twitter attracted in its last round of funding.
Twitter’s founders, Biz Stone, Evan Williams and Jack Dorsey, last year rejected overtures from Facebook to buy the microblogging service for a rumoured $500 million in stock. Peter Thiel, one of the executives involved in the negotiations, hinted that the two companies had been unable to reach an agreement on a price for the deal, or the future structure of the company.
Google today distanced itself from the claims of a possible takeover bid. “We do not comment on rumours and speculation,” said a spokesman.
Twitter has enjoyed an explosive growth in popularity over the last year, with traffic to its site up by around 974 per cent. Celebrities, politicians and companies alike have embraced the service as means of directly communicating with fans, customers and voters.
It famously broke the news of several major events, including the terrorist attacks in Mumbai and the Hudson plane crash in New York. The immediacy of the service, and the fact that messages, known as “tweets”, are visible to all web users, has made it a powerful reporting tool and a source of some startling eyewitness accounts.
The acquisition of Twitter, one of the hottest properties on the web, would make sense for Google. One of Twitter’s greatest strengths is in providing a real-time feed of the topics that are interesting its users. Twitter has been slow to capitalise on the search potential of this stream of data, with companies such as Twitscoop and Twitterfall filling the void. Google would no doubt seek to integrate this real-time trending data into its existing search results online.
“Google knows well how to treat new sources of information as signals that weigh into search results,” said Stephen Shankland, a technology reporter at Cent. “The company has been gradually blending into its search results data sources such as blogs and news stories that reflect new information arriving on the web.”
“We’ve been arguing for some time that Twitter’s real value is in search,” said TechCrunch’s Michael Arrington. “It holds the keys to the best real time database and search engine on the Internet, and Google doesn’t even have a horse in the game.”
Twitter has also struggled to settle on a business model that would allow the microblogging service to turn a profit without alienating users, and a deal with Google would resolve at least some of these issues.

Divided States Of America, directed by award winning Slovenian film maker Sašo Podgoršek, is a unique document of Laibach’s US tour, set during the traumatic 2004 post-election atmosphere in a country deeply divided by two opposite political and cultural poles.
Laibach conducted its first tour of North America in 1989, two years before the disintegration of its mother country, Yugoslavia. It was called "Sympathy for the Devil Tour" and was followed by two further tours in 1992 and 1997.
In 2001 came the attack on WTC, then followed the avenging wars on Afghanistan and Iraq, and the universal offensive against terrorism, events which radically marked the new millennium - but also tightened the doors to the USA for many foreigners. Despite that, in election year 2004, in a tensely divided atmosphere between President Bush and Democratic candidate Kerry, Laibach successfully slipped again into the country to carry out their latest 15-concert North American tour. The first stop was in Washington, D.C., only a gunshot from the White House and only one day after the election results had been announced.
