haha, I just posted a reply to your other thread about the showing - we must have been typing at the same time.
Sorry to hear about the showing, Have you thought about approaching the little cinema in Hyde Park - They show indie films and may well be up for showing LC2 - I just called my mate up there and he said its called the Hyde Park Picture House on Brudenell Rd.
I've wanted to show a documentary there for a while now as it is surrounded by thousands of students and a low door price with some good flyers and posters would attract a lot of people. If you do get in touch with them or are showing at another venue, let me know and I should be anle to get some people to help with designing and producing flyers / posters and help put them up in the two Unis and around Hyde Park. |

Hi - I am meant to be showing Loose Change in Leeds on Friday, but it looks like there will not be time to show it. The original plan that I was told was that it would be shown before the bands came on, but now the timetable for the festival has come through it looks like the music pretty much starts after the doors open and there are DJs in between bands meaning no time for the film.
There will still be an activist information point to hand out info tho, and I have a load of free dvds still that can be distributed.
Sorry if this knocks anyone's plans out, but I have only just found out myself.
Sorry folks, but I am still trying to get the word out!
Peace all

Hi Simon
I'm not too sure that this is acceptable
Ok you've got some bands playing but will they really be on from 6 til late
Is there just one room available?
What's the real reason behind this? If you've got an arrangement then it seems reasonable to keep to it. You cant just let it go. This is important information. Why just accept a 'no time ' explanation?
Explain yourself and the circumstances further |

Just so you know, Raise the Roof is one night of bands and DJs. There are six bands and DJs in between. Looking at the line up, most of the DJs are only given about 15 minutes in between slots.
The whole thing is not a major professional organisation - it is run by volunteers who are doing a pretty good job in my mind on the music and DJ side of things. My own music slot is on at 6.30, and although I have only been given 15 minutes, I can see that over-running slightly, so by later on in the evening things are well likely to have gone awry.
I am not inclined to get too hot and bothered about this. Yes, I was exploring the possibility of showing the whole film, and yes, of course it would have been great to do so, but given the somewhat lack of total preparation by the organisers, who are kids at the end of the day trying to build this up, it's OK. The event is in a one room building, and there is still the ability to have a stall and chat to people in a chilled out environment. I am not entirely too sure they have their projector sorted so visuals, its that kind of do.
We could go in and really grumble about this but in my mind that just wouldnt achieve what you and I wuld like, i.e. to show the film. What I was thinking was that I am still getting to know the organisers, and there could well be more events like this where we can suggest expanding, where there is one room for bands and a quieter space for films etc. If we continue to build relationships with organisations like this, we will get to where we want to be, which is present the important information in a way in which it will go down well with the audience and could reach people who would not normally be exposed to this type of thing.
There are other options, such as hiring out a Leeds cinema ourselves etc. Rather than get too worked up about this, I am more inclined to think ok this may not have worked out, but it was worth a try - what more can we do ourselves? I have yet to meet my new local MP after moving here, so I am in no position to complain when I can think of more things I can be doing myself yeah?
There is also the option of showing the film on say portable dvd (I dont have one).
And finally, I did also invite the Socialist Workers Party and also they said they would get in touch with Stop the War, so hopefully there will be a range of activists there helping out - I just dont know!
Hope this helps
