BBC Holocaust Smears: We Protest

Best Selling Author Says Stop Gagging and Smearing 9/11 Sceptics

Author Ian Henshall will be in Cairo this weekend to promote the Egyptian edition of his second book 911 The New Evidence. The book is published by Shorouk International Bookshop, one of the Egypt's leading publishing houses.

Henshall is expecting to address several hundred people at two seminars in Cairo, including legal and scientific experts, but he is critical of the broadcast media in the UK. "Unfortunately people here in the UK often do not know that either of my books even exists, and fewer are aware of the strong case for doubting the official 9/11 story.

"After what happened to Greg Dyke when the official weapons of mass destruction theory turned sour, it is hard to avoid the conclusion that broadcast executives fear the wrath of the neocon lobby if they try to investigate what really happened before and during the 9/11 attacks."

Ian Henshall rejects the "conspiracy theorist" label, saying 9/11 The New Evidence does not claim to know any secret details of what lay behind the 9/11 attacks. His conclusion is simply that just from the public record there are many reasons to doubt the official Washington version of 9/11. An organiser of the soon to be launched Reinvestigate 9/11, he calls for a new independent investigation.

Henshall today called on the BBC to adhere to the terms of its charter:

"It is bad enough to be accused by journalists of being a conspiracy theorist when the official 9/11 story promotes its own unlikely conspiracy theory, but now 9/11 sceptics are coming under attack from the pro-Israel lobby who are accusing us all of Holocaust denial. This morning the BBC's flagship radio show, The Today Programme, gave a platform to a spokesman who casually impugned "9/11 conspiracy theories" in this way.

"I am the UK's only best selling author on this subject and, along with the overwhelming majority of 9/11 sceptics I have no doubt that the Holocaust occurred. In fact 9/11 sceptics mostly suspect not Israel but the Bush White House of having a role in the attacks. Nonetheless for four years, despite frequently airing these smears, the BBC has failed to give me access to any national broadcast to refute them.

Ian's right on this. The Today programme has become a shadow of its former self under a recent editor, was it Rod Liddle? It was him who gave so much airtime to Abu Hamza and his Ilk whilst excluding 'ordinary' genuine Muslims from the airwaves.

BBC strikes over threat of compulsory redundancies

Thousands of journalists at the BBC are to hold two national one-day strikes against compulsory redundancies.

NUJ members at the corporation voted 77 percent in favour of strike action in a national ballot.

The most urgent threat of compulsory cuts is at the World Service’s South Asian section where up to twenty members are at risk.

"At a difficult time for journalism the fact that so many members at the BBC are willing to support their colleagues is inspiring.

"If the BBC wants to provoke a strike over such small numbers it would be shameful. We call on the BBC to get round the table with us and sort it out."

The action at the BBC is part of a union-wide campaign against media cutbacks.
