Remembering 7/7 - just thought I'd hunt some old stuff from 7/7 to contrast the government's latest narrative with what was said on July 7th.

LONDON UNDER ATTACK - the Met Commissioner Ian Blair said six blasts rocked the capital, five were underground and one on a bus. Blair will make statement shortly. VV: SIR IAN BLAIR, MET COMMISSIONER - please don't call the emergency services unless you have a life threatening situation, we have planned and prepared for this situation. VV: BLAIR, LABOUR PM - we are still trying to establish what's happened but it's clear there has been a series of terror attacks in London and people have died. The G8 meeting should continue to discuss the issues on the table. John Pena reports. Blair has confirmed these were a terror attack and sent his sympathies to the victims, he was also defiant towards those behind the blasts. He wants the G8 to pursue reaching an agreement on their issues. INTERVIEW: JIM MILLINGTON, EYE WITNESSES - a double Decker was outside the BMA building and it had been bombed, two fatalities were on the pavement. VOXPOP: EYE WITNESSES - the bus blow up as it passed us / there was a loud bang and the tube derailed, the smoke was oppressive and people had serious head injuries. VV: CHARLES CLARKE, LABOUR MP - the police are in operational command. Neil Bennet reports. Police have suggested the explosion on the bus was caused by a suicide bomber which would be the first to strike in the UK. People have been killed at two locations. Steven Chittenden reports. Leon was evacuated from a tube. INTERVIEW: LUKE PIE, WITNESS - I heard the explosion when I was on the train, then the tannoy said to evacuate. Jon Brain reports. The situation is a little calmer after a morning of chaos, police have sealed of underground stations, the walking wounded can been seen. Fergul Parkinson reports. I'm outside the BMA where the wounded are still being treated at Tavistock Square. I haven't seen the bus which exploded, witnesses say a man was knocked over as the top deck ripped off. INTERVIEW: MIKE GRANNIT, FORMER HEAD OF CIVIL CONTINGENCIES - a suicide bomber has always been a possibility, those who've seen Al-Qaeda operate know how they like to heighten fear. Plans have been in place to combat Irish terrorism. Complacency is a weapon which terrorists can use, this should put flesh on some of the alarms which have been issued for some time. Jill Farrington reports. Liverpool Street Station is still cordoned off. A strange calm has descended in the area. Ross Hawkins reports. We have reports of seven explosions now, six were at tube stations and one on a bus. A resue operation is underway at King's Cross. Police are telling people to stay where they are. The impact of this is being felt outside London, France has raised its terror alert.


BOMB BLASTS ROCK LONDON UNDERGROUND - Jeff Randell reports. I'm outside the City of London, the roads are blocked and lorry drivers are looking miserable. Trading has been calm but the stock market was down a hundred and eighty points. Paul Henley reports from Russel Square tube station. Police cordons are in place everywhere, a steady stream of ambulances are taking people away. INTERVIEW: ANNA PACEY, WITNESS - I saw utter devastation, a few had head injuries and were deaf. Others carried the badly injured who were terribly burnt. Norman Smith reports. The speaker Michael Martin has suspended the Commons for awhile. Steven Chittenden reports. The casualties at the Royal Hospital have reduced, some have left. INTERVIEW: GEORGE O'CONNOL, EYE WITNESS - I was on the tube which left Liverpool Street then the explosion happened. The doors exploded open and some of us crawled out up the track. Others were screaming to get off the tube. Presenter - NETWORK RAIL report severe disruption. Fido Holland reports. VIRGIN are running to Watford. Phil Mackey reports. The trains are the same in the Midlands. Andrew Fletcher reports. Blair confirms London terror attacks. Seven blasts have been confirmed. The Met Commissioner urged people to stay at home. Gordon Carera reports. The indications are growing the attack was related to Al-Qaeda because of the similarities to the Madrid train bombings. The police claim they have stopped attacks in the past. An Islamic group have claimed responsibility but no one has heard of them before. The Muslim Council of Britain condemn the attacks. Danny Shaw reports. A US tourist said he knew it was bomb because he'd been in the military, another witness saw the bus roof being blown off, he said parking attendant was hit with human flesh. There isn't a feeling something else will happen. Jon Brain reports. John Morgan from the Met police said there had been fatalities. Ross reports. The Pope has condemned the inhuman attacks. MI5 say it's too early to attribute blame. Westminster Council have told school children to stay there. The National Blood Service are reminded people to keep their appointment. INTERVIEW: FRANCO FRATINI, EU COMMISSIONER - this is a tragic terror attack against the UK, EU and all states defending freedom and democracy. Alistair Sandford reports. There has been uninterrupted coverage of events across Europe and offers of help are pouring in. MEP's observed a minute silence. Steven Chittenden reports. Royal London Hospital are helped the injured from the circle line. INTERVIEW: MUSTAFA, WITNESS - some people are badly injured but I'm okay. VV: CHARLES CLARKE, LABOUR MP - the situation is developing, I want to begin by expressing sympathy to the injured and dead. Four explosions have been confirmed. Transport for London will decide later when to resume services, Network Rail will try and open stations when they can. Please don't travel into central London. VV: DAVID DAVIES, TORY MP - these were acts of unspeakable depravity with the intention to kill people, it's an attack on our way of life, the government has our full support in dealing with this assault on our society.




LONDON BOMBINGS KILL THIRTY THREE - survivors have described what happened. INTERVIEW: MIKE HENNING, SURVIVOR - I was in the carriage and saw yellow light and glass, I was twisted and thrown to the ground. INTERVIEW: GARETH DAVIES, LONDON AIR AMBULANCE - the level of care is phenomenal. INTERVIEW: BRIAN PADDICK, MET POLICE - we don't know if this was a suicide attack. Gordon Carera reports. The timing of the G8 summit and method of attack are the hall marks of Al-Qaeda. VOXPOP: WITNESS - there was lots of screaming, we had to climb through the wreckage / lots of debris was on the track. David Jones reports. There was a thud behind us, there was the smell of explosives and people got away quickly. INTERVIEW: MIKE GRANIT, FORMER HEAD OF CIVIL CONTINGENCIES - this is done to heighten fears, it's another wake up call. INTERVIEW: PETER POWER, ADVISOR CONSULTANTS - you can reduce opportunity, we should take certain steps against unreasonable people. The alarm has been ringing for many years. There is a surprising amount we can do to deter these attacks, my father lived through the blitz. Presenter - SOCIETY OF LONDON THEATRES cancel all stage plays. INTERVIEW: DAVID DAVIS, TORY MP - the attack was designed to do maximum harm to the people of London. I suspect terrorists choose today because the eyes of the world was on Britain and security was focused elsewhere. We have to assess this in a scientific manor.



LONDON BUS BLAST MAYBE SUICIDE ATTACK - INTERVIEW: ROY RAM, FORMER SCOTLAND YARD - the anti terror branch will be examining the scene very closely. They will be able to detect very quickly whether it was a suicide bomb or a package. Three bombs in the underground were detonated simultaneously which indicates a sophisticated terror cell. Transport for London will be assessing damage to the tunnels and track which isn't easily put right. Gill Farrington reports. Hundred of commuters are filling Liverpool Street station, things are well organised as people are herded into a small entrance. VOXPOP: PUBLIC - we've came to see the aftermath, people club together when things are bad / Tower Bridge is packed. INTERVIEW: MARK BLOMFIELD, LONDON FIRE BRIGADE - it was a large operation, we had trained for it. INTERVIEW: DR SHAUN MCGOUGH, SECURITY EXPERT - it will be a long time before people forget this.


BUS EXPLODES IN LONDON - INTERVIEW: CAROLINE NOALEMBA, BUS DRIVER - I saw the roof blow of the bus and come towards us, I don't remember much really but I was facing it in the opposite direction. INTERVIEW: VERSI TUCKART[PHONETIC], TECHNOLOGY EXPERT - the mobile phone networks have a certain capacity for connecting calls, normally it's not a problem but these situations create huge demand. There is talk the government culled all networks incase the bombs were detonated by mobile phones but the networks deny this. INTERVIEW: JOANNE SMITH, WITNESS - the train derailed and the lights went on, I fell to the floor and smoke filled the carriage. I think my train was affected by the bomb which went off in Tavistock Square.

LONDON UNDER ATTACK - two people are confirmed dead and a hundred and fifty injured. People are still trapped at Kings Cross station. The Royal London Hospital is dealing with casualties. The Old Bailey have suspended trials. Peter reports. Dozens of injured spilled onto the streets from the underground. VOXPOP: EYE WITNESSES - we heard an explosion then screaming / people got very upset. VV: CHARLES CLARKE, LABOUR MP - I have chaired a meeting to assess the situation. VV: SIR IAN BLAIR, MET COMMISSIONER - the emergency service coordination is fantastic, they are operating exactly how we'd expect. The attack involved explosives. The bus bomb exploded in the upper level. Asheed reports. INTERVIEW: JEFF CHARLTON, DISASTER EXPERT - a command post has been established for the emergency services. They are setting the scene for what they want to happen. Martin Brunt reports. A bus was blown up in Tavistock Square, at least seven were killed on it, the lastest death figure is forty five and will rise. Up to a thousand people have an injury of some sort. Some rail lines have started again. Presenter - Transport for London have made the Thames clipper service free. INTERVIEW: DAN FLESH, TERROR EXPERT - I was evacuated out of a tube station along with many others but people were calm which is a testament to their resiliance. The attacks have the hall marks of Al-Qaeda. A dozen bombs were planted on Madrid trains but we have yet to see the full picture here, did the attackers do everything they set out to do or were any stopped? Police will try to track the explosives back to their source. Greg Milam reports. At least forty people are reported dead and over a thousand injured in the blasts this morning. A system is in place for emergency services to get around quickly.


FORTY FIVE DEAD IN LONDON TERROR ATTACKS - three tubes and a bus were subject to explosives. Blair said the attacks were barbaric and is coming back from the G8 summit. Lisa Holland reports. A coordinated number of attacks took place this morning, a bus exploded on Tavistock Square killing passengers. The precise number of dead is unknown. There was concern about subsequent devices but it wasn't the case. The type of explosives used may give an indication about who planted the devices. Robert Nisbitt reports from King's Cross. Ambulances are still inside the cordon, we cannot get closer to the station. We were actually filming here this morning when the incident occurred. Presenter - VODAFONE have switched off non essential users. The number of casualties have been slowly increasing. INTERVIEW: CHRIS BELLAMY, TERROR EXPERT - Al-Qaeda are a loose federation of organisations with their agendas but are linked by a common hatred of the west. I would still treat it with caution but it's credible to blame them. I think we can rule out IRA terrorism. I would be staggered if the underground was running within two days. Martin Brunt reports. Some victims are still trapped underground. Presenter - HSBC say their workers are all accounted for but the British Grand Prix will go ahead. INTERVIEW: FRANK DOBSON, LABOUR MP - this seems worse than tube train derailments, the blasted bus is a few yards from my home, my secretary heard it. The terrorists want us to abandon our normal open society so we must demonstrate we will carry on living our normal way. We will issue advice on the best intelligence we have. INTERVIEW: DR MOHAMED BARRI - we had been working for harmony in the community, this is shocking. INTERVIEW: LONDON BISHOP - I'm shocked, I didn't want to believe it, my wife would have been there twenty minutes earlier.

TERRORISTS TARGET TUBE NETWORK - thirty seven are confirmed dead while many others are injured. Bill Turnball reports. London went from celebrating the Olympics to being targeted by terrorists. Some trains are running at King's Cross. Ben Ando reports. Most underground lines have resumed normal service. People are being asked if they really need to attend work today. The police are studying Internet claims from a group claiming to be linked to Al-Qaeda. INTERVIEW: PETER POWER, FORMER CRISIS MANAGEMENT - some things do change, we were running an exercise on dealing with a bombing now it's happened for real. Let's not talk about warning calls. These sites will always be targets. Paul Welsh reports. Edgware Road station was sealed off, an Arabic cafe treated some of the injured from the attack yesterday. INTERVIEW: TREVOR HAY, DELIVERS PAPERS - my heart goes out. to victims Shaun Ley reports. The important thing for Blair is that life goes on as normal, the events may have given some leverage with collegues. There was no intelligence of an attack, sercurity had been slightly downgraded.
