I had another experience this morning of the way the phrase "conspiracy theory" is used as a way to silence reasoned argument by the BBC (particularly) on Radio 5's discussion about the Spurs players going down with food poisoning - when someone quite reasonably suggested the possibility that it had been carried out as part of a betting scam (not even that it was an Arsenal fan!), and the presenter (Victoria Derbyshire) made a scathing remark about 'ridiculous conspiracy theories' as though this ended the line of thinking immediately. There must be some way of combatting this, it seems now to be a blanket approach to any story which is out of line with the establishment view.

The term 'conspiracy theory' has been b****** and is a powerful deterrent to people thinking outside of the box. For if you are labelled a conspiracy theorist you must be completely paranoid and as mad as a bag of knees. Im actually surprised that 'conspiracy theorist' hasnt yet become a medical condition, nestled somewhere inbetween 'anorexia nervosa' and 'demonic possession'.

Silly buggers. Rolling Eyes
