Does this Damian McBride story stike anyone else as odd?

Shouldn't civil servants be able to assume their email discussions are snooped on, but will remain private?

GCHQ do the monitoring, not the police. The GCHQ operation post-9/11 is huge. A friend who is in the industry told me a few years ago that GCHQ were employing so many Oracle DBAs (DataBase Administrator) that the City (this was before the financial crisis) was affected: GCHQ recruitment was causing a shortage of Oracle DBAs in the City!




For the record, the GCHQ database uses Linux, Java and Oracle and they have processing power for real-time monitoring on a massive scale.
