Sounds like she possibly has a virus/trojan.
Ask her to run a full virus scan in Safe Mode in Windows.
No problems here so far. |

I've been having issues with Ubuntu for a while now as I have very non-standard video cards - finally sorted BUT I don't use Firefox on that OS as it no longer allows one to choose whether to accept updates or not!
So, using Opera 9.1 in Ubuntu I get the "forbidden - you do not have permission to access /board/posting.php on this server" error message when attempting to log on here.
Obviously no probs using Windows XP and firefox, otherwise you wouldn't be seeing this post...
I've been out of 'net security' for too long now but ISTM that there is an underlying cause to this issue that's OS/Browser related. In this regard, I no longer trust even the free anti-virus guards as they are not open source and would appear to be using google tactics to log all ones files. My cumbersome approach now is to load AVG, go through the huge update nonsense, do a virus scan then, regardless of any infection, wipe my system and reload a safe, clean mirror image. Time consuming, counter-productive but increasingly necessary, imo.
Ironic that a website like this one unwittingly gets me barred from posting access when using an open source environment! Here's cause enough for 'conspiracy theory' to flourish ;-)
Please don't ask me to PM Jim 'cos he doesn't seem to be responding.
Anyone else having this issue?

Strangely enough after a couple of days dodgy computing I'm running Malwarebytes right now, already ran Adaware and AVG _________________ 'Come and see the violence inherent in the system.

Linux doesn't need malwarebytes, ccleaner, adaware, AVG etc ad nauseum, although they do run fine under Wine. ;-)
Agreed about firefox, that's why I use Opera for anything important.
This site is important to me but, to repeat, I wrote: | using Opera 9.1 in Ubuntu I get the "forbidden - you do not have permission to access /board/posting.php on this server" error message when attempting to log on here. |
That should be succinct enough for any ISP, pre-BigBrother laws on net control... _________________ "We will lead every revolution against us!" - attrib: Theodor Herzl

Update on Ubuntu 8.10 with Opera 9.6
I am now able to log in here with the above combination. It boils down to RTFM, I am very sorry to say.
For anyone else tearing their hair out over this issue, in Opera, make 911forum your active tab then 'simply' go to 'Tools / Quick Preferences / Edit Site Preferences / Network tab /
Enable 'Send Referrer Information' - duh! - unlike all other browsers, this is OFF by default in Opera. Very sensible really. Opera's site-specific functions appear remarkably comprehensive.
So! Finally, bye bye Windows and good riddance.
ps. Anyone who finds their net connection impossibly slow in Ubuntu needs to disable IPv6 - no bad thing anyway. Will post the necessary commands if needed... _________________ "We will lead every revolution against us!" - attrib: Theodor Herzl
