Quote:
EARTHLINGS is a feature length documentary about humanity's absolute dependence on animals (for pets, food, clothing, entertainment, and ... all » scientific research) but also illustrates our complete disrespect for these so-called "non-human providers." The film is narrated by Academy Award nominee Joaquin Phoenix (GLADIATOR) and features music by the critically acclaimed platinum artist Moby.
With an in-depth study into pet stores, puppy mills and animals shelters, as well as factory farms, the leather and fur trades, sports and entertainment industries, and finally the medical and scientific profession, EARTHLINGS uses hidden cameras and never before seen footage to chronicle the day-to-day practices of some of the largest industries in the world, all of which rely entirely on animals for profit. Powerful, informative and thought-provoking, EARTHLINGS is by far the most comprehensive documentary ever produced on the correlation between nature, animals, and human economic interests. There are many worthy animal rights films available, but this one transcends the setting. EARTHLINGS cries to be seen. Highly recommended!
We and the animals are all Earthlings. If we can bare to see this movie to the end, it gives a greater understanding about life on this planet and what should be our responsibility towards it and the animals.
After about twenty minutes I was feeling upset and sick in my stomach but why would that be, if it’s OK for things like that to be happening?
There is a spiritual message and it has changed the way I see things. As it says, if most people really knew what is happening to animals they would become vegetarians. I hope that I will never have to resort to eating meat but it's not just about what we eat, it's about a lot more.
This isn't about mere 'sentimentality' - it's about our future, the future of the planet and life on it. We know cruelty is going on yet because we turn our heads away, denial serves to damage us spiritually. We will collectively reap what we sow. The degradation of both animals and humans, will continue until we change and have more respect for living creatures.

I will no longer particiapate in gross cruelty to other animals, i have gone vegetarian.
Hi dontbelieve....
Why do you equate gross cruelty to vegetarianism? Killing and eating is part of nature. Is your oppostion just to killing or the manner of the killing?
Would you be opposed to eating the flesh of an animal that had died naturally? Or opposed to eating meat from something you had caught and killed yourself.? ever collected mussels from a clean beach, and heated them up in a splash of white wine and some chopped onions or butter and garlic.? Or grilled a freshly caught mackerel with a splash of soy sauce.or a roadkill pheasant , plucked and then cooked in a peanut butter and honey glaze.
In these days of mass production you may well be safer avoiding certain meats but even gm crops could be problematical.
Got no problem if people choose not to eat meat and I sometimes dine at vege cafes as they can knock up some tasty grub.
I seem to think we have this "cuddly bunny" spirit being pushed at us from all quarters especially the cinema and media. Also "reincarnation" faiths also view animal order on a similar level to man.
From a faith point of view there is a reasonable view that man was initially created to survive without the need to eat meat and that meat eating only followed as a result of man falling from his initial relationship with his creator.
IMO there can be something quite deep and reverential in killing one form of life (animal or plant) in order to sustain another.and giving thanks to its creator Its just that weve lost that as we pile our trolleys full of tinned processed stuff.
Enjoy your nut roast as i tuck into my injected radiated chicken! _________________ JO911B.
