The U.S. has probably been funding the “counter-terrorism” forces in Somalia, and has given a decidedly amber light to the Ethiopian invasion of the south of the country in support of the TG. The transitional govt in Somalia has sold off the right to patrol its coastal waters to a shadowy Virginia based company.
Backing the counter-terror forces has drastically destabilized the south, allowing foreign intervention and talk of lifting the Somali arms embargo. It has, coincidentally, given rise to an “Islamist” force in Mogadishu which has been insinuated into the orbit of Al-Qaeda by the press.
Now, (28/7) we have the Ethiopian government actively associating the Eritrean government with Al-Qaeda. The grounds for their accusation are two cargo planes that have landed at Mogadishu with “credible sources” reporting that they contained AK-47s, and such like paraphenalia from Eritrea.
The Ethiopian government is more or less allied to the U.S. It routinely suppresses elections and imprisons protestors, yet receives little or no sanction. The reason is because Meles Zenawi, the Ethiopian leader, has a crucial proxy role to play in the War for Oil. He is tasked with delivering the Red Sea coast and the Horn of Africa, along with Top Cat Marine and the govt in Somalia.
