NVQ Event Stewarding Training
Training planned for 2009 did not happen as the LSC (the funding body for these NVQ’s) ran out of money as too many people signed up for courses last year, and thus many colleges did not get paid for the courses they ran so cut all further training.
Good news!
We have managed to get to the head of the queue for 2010.
We will be running our first course in January/February in Croydon and then rolling out to other locations around the country. Don’t worry if you want to take part but can’t get to Croydon. What we need is for you to let us know that you want to do the course.
Good reasons for doing the course?
IT IS FREE!!!! The course is fully funded! All we require is that you pay a deposit via our website to secure your place on the course. The deposit will be returned to you on request after you have completed the course or we can keep it to cover 2010 festivals. And once you have completed the course you will also be first in line for any 2010 paid work and all your favourite festivals.
It is equivalent to 5 GCSE’s and will allow those of you with few qualifications to start applying for further education, grants to study and help improve your CV.
It is a good entry point into the world of event management/production/health and safety and a host of other interesting festival and event type careers.
And as the industry is moving towards a more regulated framework as you may have noticed with the growth of CRB checks for working with children, getting an SIA badge to do security etc. While it is not a legal requirement at the moment and may never come to that, if you get it now, you are already ahead of the game for the future if it does become law.
Please email stef@greenstewards to indicate your interest – he will send you further details in the next few days, and how you need to pay your deposit etc.
Thanks to you all for your efforts in 2009 – lets make 2010 even better!
Keep checking the website for news on festivals etc and we look forward to seeing you next year |

A bit more sinister is seems, we are actually getting more trained security staff:
Quote: | Information re NVQ Training
If you haven't already and are interested please sign up by logging in to the Green Stewards site and clicking on 'Tell us which festivals you want to work at' then click the NVQ button
nb do not hit the training button as you will just get the info below!
The 2010 Green Steward Training is the
Level 2 NVQ in Spectator Safety
and involves the following modules
1) Controlling the entry, exit and movement of people at spectator events
2) Monitoring spectators and deal with crowd problems
3) Help to manage conflict
4) Prepare for spectator events
5) Deal with Accidents and Emergencies
6) Contribute to the work of your team
plus one optional module (not required to qualify for the NVQ)All modules are wholly based on the Spectator Safety National Occupational Standards
NVQ'ers will also need to attend at least two (Green Steward) festivals/events to be assessed to obtain their certification
The course is FREE
- you do not need any qualifications to be eligible for a place
- we will provide lunch
- travel/accommodation is down to you
nb this is a two day course and will usually be at a week-end. There is likely to be 30-40 green stewards on a course so a great opportunity for socialising and also perhaps grabbing a couch to stay on....
We will try to have venues that minimise travelling for all and they will be definitely in South West/Bristol and in London. And West Midlands, East/East Midlands, South/Thames Valley and North depending on demand. Please make sure your details are up to date especially address to help us facilitate this
Course dates between February and June 2010
Deposit required will be £100, this can be held to cover for 2010 festivals
To be kept informed of dates, venues etc you must please register your interest, and we will let you know when you can start paying your deposits (and related details) over the next few weeks.
Thank-you for being patient
Stef
ps if you have already done SIA training you may have covered most of the above - you would still need to do the full course to get the NVQ though
pps if this is your second email from me today - congratulations you are definitely signed up... so please don't email me to tell me so... |
