Training exercise to clamp down on our freedoms in the future??
Nice training exercise for Lancashire police as they put "border" controls around their county to try and keep out thieving armed scousers and mancs. As if scousers and mancs have the monopoly on crime. Perhaps we could stage something similar outside a bank or Houses of Parliament
Should be fun I have a SEAT car and will be attempting to cross the "border" from Merseyside into Lancashire to pick my son up from UNI. Think i will test the security by trying all the minor country lanes. Any clues on how to look suspicious ?
Quote: | Lancashire police shut down roads into the county from Merseyside to stop travelling criminal gangs
Dec 8 2009 by Ben Rossington, Liverpool Echo
MOTORISTS from Merseyside were facing delays crossing the border into Lancashire today as police launched a crackdown on travelling criminals.
Lancashire police locked down all the routes into the county from Merseyside and Manchester as they stopped and searched scores of cars.
Operation Vault was launched to combat armed crooks travelling across county borders.
Police chiefs in Lancashire blame criminals from Merseyside and Manchester for much of their serious crime.
Assistant Chief Constable Andy Cooke, a former Merseyside officer, said: “Many of our armed robberies are carried out by criminals based in Greater Manchester and Merseyside and our message to them is simple: If you want to come to Lancashire to commit robberies and burglaries and to steal high powered vehicles don’t bother because we will catch you.
“At this time of year, in particular, the number of cash in transit robberies increases because more cash is in circulation in the run up to Christmas.
“The theft of cars such as Audis, BMWs and Seats is closely linked to cash-in-transit robberies because it is these types of cars which are often used by gangs who target security guards delivering money to places like banks and supermarkets.”
Many Mersey gangs use the M58 and M6 motorways to make quick getaways after going on robbing sprees around rural areas of Lancashire.
Suspects will be stopped at the county borders using all available resources, including firearms officers, motorway officers, dog patrols and the Air Support Unit.
They are also using high-visibility patrols and undercover officers as well as CCTV to target known offenders.
Anyone with information about possible offenders or suspicious activity should contact police on 08451 25 35 45 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. |
