Quote: | Blair to receive US peace medal for not declaring war on everyone, everywhere
Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is to receive a prestigious US medal and $100,000 prize for restricting himself to starting wars in countries where the oil reserves made it an absolute no-brainer.
The National Constitution Centre is awarding him its Liberty Medal for “steadfast” efforts in not declaring war on everyone, everywhere, all of the time.
A spokesperson explained, “As Prime Minister it would have been really easy to start a war with every country he ever encountered, yet here we are years later and the UK is only involved in a couple of borderline illegal conflicts.”
“Which as far as America is concerned makes him pretty much the human embodiment of peace itself.”
“We admire people who can meet other people, especially foreigners, and not immediately succumb to the desire to blow them all the hell.”
“Especially when you have a button right there on your desk for just that purpose.”

Organisers have said they are overlooking the Iraq war because that particular conflict was absolutely necessary in ensuring that they didn’t have to trade in their land cruisers for a tiny Prius.
The spokesperson continued, “We don’t count Iraq because we tend not to count the wars that we absolutely approve of.”
“As far as we’re concerned the true war-mongers are the people who start conflicts where there is no obvious financial or resource gain to be had.”
“Mr Blair is a prime example of limiting yourself to starting military conflicts where there is a clear financial benefit for doing so.”
“And for that, we salute you, sir.” |

Middle East Role Wins Blair Liberty Prize
01.07.10 - 17:39
PNN – London - Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has been awarded a prestigious American peace prize because of his "steadfast commitment to conflict resolution" in Northern Ireland, Africa and as his work as an international envoy to the Middle East.
Chosen by the USA's National Constitution Centre to be the recipient of the Liberty Medal Mr Blair was praised for his commitment to the Middle East peace process and demonstration of " leadership, dedication and creativity in promoting economic opportunity" in the region "and the resolution of conflicts rooted in religion around the world," by the Centre's chairman and long time friend Bill Clinton, who will award the honour in September.
Upon excepting the award, Mr Blair spoke of his achivement in "preparing Palestinians for statehood".
He continued, "Freedom, liberty and justice are the values by which this medal is struck. Freedom, liberty and justice are the values which I try to apply to my work."
They are the values which drive the work of my faith foundation as we try to show that people of different faiths can live together constructively in peace and harmony."
But Blair's appointment to Middle East Peace Envoy in 2007 hasn't totally come without issues. Appointed the day he resigned as British Prime Minister, many remain sceptical of his relationship with former Preseident George Bush, over his commitment to invade Iraq in 2003 and more recently over his response to Israel's bombardment of Gaza.
And it's not the first time Tony Blair has been awarded such a prize. One of George Bush's last acts as President in 2009 was to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America's highest civilian honour to Blair.
The prize money, totally $100,000 will be split between the Tony Blair Faith Foundation and the Tony Blair Africa Governance Initiative. _________________ 'Come and see the violence inherent in the system.
