Before the 18th Century, opium was employed sparingly by the Chinese.. During the 18th Century, British required Chinese tea, but there were no goods for exchange. In 1773 the British conquered Bengal province in India and aquired the monopoly over raw opium. Opium was smuggled into China, the population was addicted. The Chinese proclaimed war on Britain, China lost the war in 1842,because Britannia waves the rules..... in exchange Britain obtained Hong Kong, its Harbour, and open trade with China. In the Treaty of 1860 China was required to legalize opium within its borders... that's because Britain rules the waves.. and Britannia waves the rules..
