The European Union (EU) is hoping to create bilateral free trade agreements (FTAs) with member states of the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) Wedding dresses, an official on Friday told audiences of the ASEAN-OECD Investment Policy Conference held in the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.
Walter van Hattum, first secretary of the Economic and Trade Section in the EU Delegation to Indonesia said that the EU has ambition to create new opportunities in ASEAN by embracing bilateral FTAs with countries who are willing and capable in sharing the ambition.
"For ASEAN to step up the ambition, it needs to pursue agreements ongoing and to explore the future ones Tiffany," said van Hattum.
He said that the ambition to create bilateral FTA with ASEAN member countries was set by the EU following termination of EU- ASEAN FTA negotiations.
"In 2007, we agreed to start the EU-ASEAN FTA negotiations. However, by a mutual agreement Tiffany, we halted the negotiations in March 2009 due to several technical problems," said van Hattum. |
