Brave man. His card is no doubt marked.
Sure, the US and it's poodle, the UN, love 'Democracy'.
Witness Guatemala, Chile, (Wilson's ) UK, Nicaragua, Algeria, Haiti, Honduras, Gaza.
Or, for that matter, the US ('Supreme Court' putting 'Dubya' in, and chicanery and bent 'electronic voting machines' keeping him there, just long enough to serve the NWO plans for the Middle East).

Sure, only the 'Evildoers' hate 'Democracy'. Ask 'Dubya'!

And whatever you do, don't entertain no 'Conspiracy Theories'!

What wonderful press coverage all these 'Arabs' are getting!
They aren't 'rag-heads' or 'sand niggers', but human beings craving 'Democracy'. Pull the other one, NWO.
Compare that to what the media spewed out about the previous countries mentioned above.

The United States, Britain and France have sent several hundred “defense advisors” to train and support the anti-Gadhafi forces in oil-rich Eastern Libya where “rebels armed groups” have apparently taken over. According to an exclusive report confirmed by a Libyan diplomat in the region “the three Western states have landed their special forces troops in Cyrinacia and are now setting up their bases and training centres” to reinforce the rebel forces who are resisting pro-Qaddafi forces in several adjoining areas. A Libyan official who requested not to be identified said that the U.S. and British military gurus were sent on February 23 and 24 night through American and French warships and small naval boats off Libyan ports of Benghazi and Tobruk. The Western forces are reportedly preparing to set-up training bases for local militias set-up by the rebel forces for an effective control of the oil-rich region and counter any push by pro- Qaddafi forces from Tripoli.

Gadhafi’s Warplanes Lash Out at Central Libyan City - Rebels Shrug Off 'Desperation' Attack
by Jason Ditz, February 28, 2011
In a move that suggests they retains more military hardware than anyone knew, the Gadhafi regime launched attacks with fighter jets and attack helicopters, targeting a refinery in central Libya and attacking the western city of Zawiya in force.

The attacks on Central Libya were repelled by anti-aircraft weapons controlled by defectors, and unconfirmed reports say that the forces believe they may have downed an attack helicopter which was badly damaged during the attack.
Meanwhile, the rebel leaders expressed shock at the ease with which they repelled the ground attack on Zawiya, saying it raises questions over whether they overestimated the strength of the mercenary forces loyal to the dictator.....

UK Prime Minister Cameron: We will use military force to free Libya

[propaganda alert]

1) UK PM Cameron: We do not in any way rule out the use of military force against Libya (28 February 2011)

2) UK PM Cameron: We value our security co-operation with the Persian Gulf countries highly (22 February 2011)

“For the future of Libya and its people, Colonel Gaddafi’s regime must end and he must leave. To that end we are taking every step possible to isolate the Gaddafi regime, deprive it of money, shrink its power [...] With respect to all these actions, Britain is taking a lead. [...]

And we do not in any way rule out the use of military assets [against Libya]. [...] I have asked the [UK] Ministry of Defence and the [UK] Chief of the Defence Staff to work with our allies on plans for a military no-fly zone [in Libya].”

[UK Prime Minister David Cameron, statement on the situation in Libya, The House of Commons of the British Parliament, London, 28 February 2011] [1]

“We value our security co-operation with Kuwait and the [Persian] Gulf [countries] highly. [...] The continued failure of the Middle East Peace Process to achieve justice for Palestinians or security for Israelis the threat of Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon and the growing threat from Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula are not just security problems for the region, but security problems shared by the whole world. [...]

I come here today offering a new chapter in Britain’s long partnership with our friends in this region. Over generations we have built a partnership based on our shared interests in prosperity and security. But in a changing world ours must now also be a partnership that recognises the importance of political and economic reform.”

'West puts Libya oil above democracy'

Former Arab League Ambassador to UN, Clovis Maksoud
Former Arab League Ambassador to the UN Clovis Maksoud says the West's delay in condemning the recent repressions by the Libyan regime is partly due to its concerns over oil supplies from the country.

The West showed “reluctance” to denounce the repressions by Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi's regime “partly because of the oil factor … [and] that was one factor to inhibit many of those who are importing oil from Libya,” Maksoud said in an interview with Press TV.

This is while beleaguered Gaddafi “is presenting his people with two options … either he is allowed to govern them or he kills them,” he deplored.

Maksoud also warned against any unilateral action against the North African nation, saying any “enforcement method against Libya must be authorized by the UN” and it has to be in the form of an international force.”

The former Arab League envoy argued that military action or declaring Libya a no-fly zone should be decided collectively.

“It should be authorized by the Security Council without anybody vetoing it, which means that China and Russia have to be included in the decision," he noted.

The Libyan revolution, inspired by the recent revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia, sparked nearly two weeks ago.

Brutal crackdown by the Libyan regime on anti-government protesters has left thousands of people dead so far.

Gaddafi, however, has vowed to stay in power despite the fact that most of the country, except for capital Tripoli, has come under the control of anti-government forces and the former justice minister has formed a transitional government.

Thousands of Libyan people have been fleeing to neighboring Egypt, Tunisia and other European countries like Italy.

The revolution in the North African oil-rich nation has also led to a significant hike in the global oil prices.

The United States and other foreign governments discussed military options for dealing with Libya on Monday as beleaguered Gaddafi scoffed at the threat to his government.

The World Cheers as the CIA Plunges Libya Into Chaos
by David Rothscum
How was Libya doing under the rule of Gadaffi? How bad did the people have it? Were they oppressed as we now commonly accept as fact? Let us look at the facts for a moment.

Before the chaos erupted, Libya had a lower incarceration rate than the Czech republic…

Gaddaffi’s planes that bomb innocent protesters have some sort of cloaking device,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TncgsS0FDWg&feature=player_embedded

This African mercenary story has probably been made up to further demonise Gaddaffi and also undermine his ‘support’ for black Africa. Within 3 days of protests beginning were being told about African mercenaries within days of the rebellion breaking out. How did those mercenaries get hired and travel to Libya so quickly? Does Gaddaffi have a Star Trek transporter?

In the pan-African Myweku blog, N Thompson writes:
Africans in the main have been sympathetic and supportive of the desires of Tunisians and Egyptians in their protests. However, the African media and forums are beginning to ask if the prominence and publicity given to so called African mercenaries running amok amongst Libyan protesters pillaging and raping is beginning to tell a rather interesting story about the motives of some Libyan protesters.

On Sudan.net a question posted by a member of the forum – Is Libya racist? – has generated many emotional responses. Surely, isn’t the first rule of any revolution to garner as much international support from all quarters as possible?

Gaddaffi is into a United States of Africa. But comes with it is a central back and a single currency. If Western banks control that then kiss goodbye to Africa.

The World Cheers as the CIA Plunges Libya Into Chaos

by David Rothscum http://davidrothscum.blogspot.com/2011/02/world-cheers-as-cia-plunges- libya-into.html

Quote:
How was Libya doing under the rule of Gadaffi? How bad did the people have it? Were they oppressed as we now commonly accept as fact? Let us look at the facts for a moment.

Before the chaos erupted, Libya had a lower incarceration rate than the Czech republic. It ranked 61st. Libya had the lowest infant mortality rate of all of Africa. Libya had the highest life expectancy of all of Africa. Less than 5% of the population was undernourished. In response to the rising food prices around the world, the government of Libya abolished ALL taxes on food.

People in Libya were rich. Libya had the highest gross domestic product (GDP) at purchasing power parity (PPP) per capita of all of Africa. The government took care to ensure that everyone in the country shared in the wealth. Libya had the highest Human Development Index of any country on the continent. The wealth was distributed equally. In Libya, a lower percentage of people lived below the poverty line than in the Netherlands.

How does Libya get so rich? The answer is oil. The country has a lot of oil, and does not allow foreign corporations to steal the resources while the population starves, unlike countries like Nigeria, a country that is basically run by Shell.

Like any country, Libya suffers from a government with corrupt bureaucrats that try to gain a bigger portion of the pie at the cost of everyone else. In response to this, Kadaffi called for the oil revenue to be distributed directly to the people, because in his opinion, the government was failing the people. However, unlike the article claims, Kadaffi is not the president of Libya. In fact he holds no official position in the government. This is the big mistake that people make. They claim that Kadaffi rules over Libya when in fact he doesn't, his position is more or less ceremonial. He should be compared to a founding father.

The true leader of Libya is an indirectly elected prime-minister. The current prime-minister is Baghdadi Mahmudi. Calling Khadaffi the leader of Libya is comparable to calling Akihito the leader of Japan. Contrary to what your media is sketching, opinions in Libya vary. Some people support Gadaffi but want Mahmudi out. Others want both out. Many just want to live their life in peace. However, effort is taken to sketch the appearance of a popular revolt against the supposed leader of Libya, Gadaffi, when in fact he is just the architect of Libya's current political system, a mixture of pan-Arabism, socialism, and Islamic government.

Videos of Pro-Gaddafi protests are disappearing from Youtube as we speak. "Pro Gaddafi Anti Baghdadi Mahmudi demonstrations in" youtube.com/watch?v=Ce5fLGNg0sk is gone. "Pro Gaddafi protests in front of Libyan embassy London" youtube.com/watch?v=pRwv0Ac8qbc Is gone. Youtube deletes any video containing gore normally, except when it's from Libya. Apparently more traumatizing to it's viewers than chopped up bodies are Libyans who do not jump on the bandwagon and enter the streets to force Gadaffi out.

Are the protesters in Libya comparable to the protesters in Egypt and Tunisia? Not at all. The governments reaction is more violent, and obviously excessive violence is being used. However let us look for a moment at the actions of the protesters. The building of the the general people's congress, the parliament of Libya, was put on fire by angry protestors. This is comparable to protesters putting the United States Capitol on fire. Do you think that for even a moment the US government would sit idly by as protesters put the US capitol on fire?

The riots erupting now are not secular youth desiring change, or anything like we saw in Egypt and Tunisia. A group calling itself "Islamic Emirate of Barka", the former name of the North-Western part of Libya, has taken numerous hostages, and killed two policemen. This is not a recent development. On Friday, the 18th of February, the group stole 70 military vehicles after attacking a port and killing four soldiers. Unfortunately, a military colonel has joined the group and provided them with further weapons. The uprising started in the eastern city of Benghazi. The Italian foreign minister has raised his fears of an Islamic Emirate of Benghazi declaring itself independent.

So where does this sudden uprising come from? The answer is that the same groups the US has been funding for decades are now taking their chance to gain control over the nation. A group recently arrested in Libya consisted of dozens of foreign nationals that were involved in numerous acts of looting and sabotage. The Libyan government could not rule out links to Israel.

Great Britain funded an Al Qaeda cell in Libya, in an attempt to assassinate Gadaffi. The main opposition group in Libya now is the National Front for the Salvation of Libya. This opposition group is being funded by Saudi Arabia, the CIA, and French Intelligence. This group unified itself with other opposition groups, to become the National Conference for the Libyan Opposition. It was this organization that called for the "Day of Rage" that plunged Libya into chaos on February 17 of this year.

It did this in Benghazi, a conservative city that has always been opposed to Gadaffi's rule. It should be noted that the National Front for the Salvation of Libya is well armed. In 1996 the group tried to unleash a revolution in the eastern part of Libya before. It used the Libyan National Army, the armed division of the NFSL to begin this failed uprising.

Why is the United States so opposed to Gadaffi? He is the main threat to US hegemony in Africa, because he attempts to unite the continent against the United States. This concept is called the United States of Africa. In fact, Gadaffi holds all sorts of ideas that are contrary to US interests. The man blames the United States government for the creation of HIV. He claims that Israel is behind the assasination of Martin Luther King and president John. F. Kennedy. He says that the 9/11 hijackers were trained in the US. He also urged Libyans to donate blood to Americans after 9/11. Khadaffi is also the last of a generation of moderate socialist pan-Arab revolutionaries that is still in power, after Nasser and Hussein have been eliminated, and Syria has aligned itself with Iran.

The United States and Israel however have no interest in a strong Arab world. In fact it seems that elementary to the plan is bringing Libya to its knees through chaos and anarchy. In late 2010, the United Kingdom was still propping up the Libyan government through lucrative arms sales. Nothing is a better guarantee to destroy Libya than a bloody civil war. The tribal system that is still strong in Libya is useful to exploit to generate such a war since Libya has historically been divided into various tribal groups.

This is also why the Libyan government responds by importing mercenaries. Tribal allegiances go before allegiance to the government, especially in Benghazi, and thus the central government has no control over the eastern part of the country anymore. The alternative to mercenaries is a conflict between the various ethnic groups. Gadaffi has tried for 41 years to make the country more homogeneous, but opposition groups funded by outside forced will take little more than a few days to put the country back into the 19th century, before the region was conquered and unified by Europeans. The violence is indeed excessive, but everyone seems to forget that the situation is not the same as in Tunis and Egypt. Tribal ties play a far greater role, and thus the conflict will unfortunately be bloodier.

Please remember at all times that the violent Libyan civil war unfolding now is not comparable to the revolutions seen in Tunisia and Egypt. Both of these revolutions involved peaceful protesters suffering from poverty, in opposition to their corrupt governments. The chaos in Libyan consists of a mixture of tribal conflicts, conflict over oil revenue (since most oil is in the east of the country), radical islamists opposed to Gadaffi's system of government, and outside destabilization by Western funded exile groups.

Gadaffi took control in a bloodless coup from a sick monarch away for medical treatment 41 years ago. His ideology is based on unification and he attempted to peacefully merge his country with Egypt and Syria. It would take a miracle for the violence unfolding now to lead to a single stable democratic government in Libya, with full control over the entire country. The country is more than twice the size of Pakistan, but with 6 million inhabitants. Endless deserts divide many of the cities in the nation. If anything we should ask ourselves how many more nations will be shattered into pieces in the coming months, as the world cheers.

Back to the controversy? Israel or not? Israeli factions or not?
israel provides 50,000 Mercenaries for Gaddafi

Quote:
Israeli arms distribution company Global CST has reportedly, under the authorization of Tel Aviv, provided Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi with African mercenaries to clamp down on anti-government protesters.

Egyptian sources have revealed that the Israeli company has so far provided Gaddafi's regime with 50,000 African mercenaries to attack the civilian anti-government protesters in Libya.

The arms company was previously convicted in an African country over illegal deals, News-Israel website reported.

Sources say Global CST had obtained the permission for providing the mercenaries to Gaddafi from the Israeli officials in advance.

Earlier, Global CST general manager had met with the head of the Israeli Intelligence Agencies (Aman) and Defense Minister Ehud Barak and obtained the permission for the measure.

The company representatives also met with Abdullah Sanusi, the head of Libyan Internal Intelligence, in Chad to discuss the details for a final agreement, the report says.

The mercenaries who attack the civilians in Tripoli have mostly come from Chad.

Gaddafi regime pays $2000 per day for each mercenary. The mercenaries receive $100 per day and the remaining goes to Global CST, the report says.

Meanwhile, the United States has demanded the UN Security Council (UNSC) to remove the provisions of charging mercenaries with war crimes in the killing of Libyan civilians.

The request is for the UNSC to word the resolution in a way that no one from an outside country that is not a member of the International Criminal Court could be prosecuted by the Court for their actions in Libya.

The Libyan revolution, inspired by the recent revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia, sparked nearly two weeks ago.

Brutal crackdown by the Libyan regime on anti-government protesters has left thousands of people dead so far.

Amnesty International reports, 2009
Libya and a pro-Western Middle Eastern country. Which one is Libya?

XXX human rights record and continuing violations cast a shadow over its improved international diplomatic standing. Freedom of expression, association and assembly remained severely restricted in a climate characterized by the repression of dissident voices and the absence of independent human rights NGOs. Refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants continued to be detained indefinitely and ill-treated. At least eight foreign nationals were executed. The legacy of past human rights violations remained unaddressed.

Prisoners were reported to have been tortured and otherwise ill-treated. Thousands of people were held without charge or trial under a sweeping provision allowing administrative detention. Procedures in trials before the State Security Court (SSC) breached international standards for fair trial. New restrictions on freedom of expression, association and assembly were approved by the parliament. Women faced discrimination and were inadequately protected against domestic violence. Migrant domestic workers were exploited and abused, and inadequately protected under the law. At least 14 people were sentenced to death but there were no executions.

Gaddafi agrees to a peace plan devised by Venezuela's Chávez
Venezuela s Foreign Minister Nicolás Maduro talked with the Arab League president and said that an important step was made, reported Reuters Africa citing a breaking news story from Arab news network Al Jazeera. According to the report, Muammar Gaddafi accepted the plan and the Arab League president Amr Moussa also agreed to the proposal made by Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez. The sources would not say whether the agreement was communicated to the rebel group that has been calling for Gaddafi s immediate resignation during the last two weeks, accusing him of crimes against the Libyan people, and use of mercenaries and war weapons to kill civilians

There seems to be an approach spreading that everthing is engineered even the financial crisis. If you print hundreds of millions of dollars to enrich yourself, you create hyperinflation. In what way is that ...engineered?

Did Germany engineer its own hyperinflation in the 1920's? No. There was a crash.

Has America not been involved in two wars for a decade? Yes. That would bankrupt them and it has. The only engineering is that the people at the top have realised the boat is sinking and they are jumping ship early.

How is the crisis in Egypt, Tunisia and Libya 'engineered'? The CIA controls everything so people cannot make their own decisions or take action into their own hands? The title of this thread is engineered not the revolt in Libya.
This is what Brezinski has stated:

Quote:

For the first time in human history almost all of humanity is politically activated, politically conscious and politically interactive... The resulting global political activism is generating a surge in the quest for personal dignity, cultural respect and economic opportunity in a world painfully scarred by memories of centuries-long alien colonial or imperial domination... The worldwide yearning for human dignity is the central challenge inherent in the phenomenon of global political awakening... That awakening is socially massive and politically radicalizing... The nearly universal access to radio, television and increasingly the Internet is creating a community of shared perceptions and envy that can be galvanized and channeled by demagogic political or religious passions. These energies transcend sovereign borders and pose a challenge both to existing states as well as to the existing global hierarchy, on top of which America still perches...

The youth of the Third World are particularly restless and resentful. The demographic revolution they embody is thus a political time-bomb, as well... Their potential revolutionary spearhead is likely to emerge from among the scores of millions of students concentrated in the often intellectually dubious "tertiary level" educational institutions of developing countries. Depending on the definition of the tertiary educational level, there are currently worldwide between 80 and 130 million "college" students. Typically originating from the socially insecure lower middle class and inflamed by a sense of social outrage, these millions of students are revolutionaries-in-waiting, already semi-mobilized in large congregations, connected by the Internet and pre-positioned for a replay on a larger scale of what transpired years earlier in Mexico City or in Tiananmen Square. Their physical energy and emotional frustration is just waiting to be triggered by a cause, or a faith, or a hatred...

[The] major world powers, new and old, also face a novel reality: while the lethality of their military might is greater than ever, their capacity to impose control over the politically awakened masses of the world is at a historic low. To put it bluntly: in earlier times, it was easier to control one million people than to physically kill one million people; today, it is infinitely easier to kill one million people than to control one million people.[1]

A rebellion occurred in Libya which has led to a civil war. The Arab Revolt in general has already led to the resignation of France's foreign minister, the head of the LSE and soon army generals if they decide to intervene.

Widespread protests have occurred in Iraq last Friday in almost every city of the people united against the Occupation government. The Americans were forced to make a veiled threat they would come out of their barracks to defend the government. A new round of protests sent the successor of Ben Ali to where he belongs, the dustbin of history. New protests are going to occur in Egypt to get rid of Mubaraks men.

If this is all engineered from Washington, then you have replaced reality with Alice in Wonderland. The USA is trying to keep up hence the contradictory statements emanating from Washington. But I go back to Brezhinskis statement. He clearly states they cannot control populations any more. They have to wipe them out.

Qaddafi the Jew, the Rothschilds & the Mossad

Written by Christopher Bollyn

During a discussion on Israel Radio they just dropped this little tidbit. There is a Jew left in Libya. His name is Muammar Gadhafi.
- “You won’t believe this…Gadhafi’s mother was Jewish”, Carl in Jerusalem, 22 February 2011

Of his early life little is known, and even less is certain. He was born, it is said, in Sirte, a desert town, the son of a goatherd. Other versions suggest that his real father may have been French, and his mother Jewish.
– “Colonel Gaddafi is turning into a mellow megolamaniac” (comments), The Telegraph, 13 June 2009

Colonel Gaddafi’s close ties to the Rothschild family and the Mossad make complete sense when we consider the fact that he is a Jew, the son of a Jewish mother, according to a report aired on Israeli television. How much oil money has the brutal Libyan dictator secretly stashed away in Israeli banks?

When an Arab journalist told me that Muammar Gaddafi was Jewish and that his mother’s relative lived in Israel and had been on Israeli television, I thought it must be some kind of joke. But it’s not. Here is the Israeli program in which his second cousin and another relative explain that the “Madman of Libya” is actually a Jew. According to the relatives’ testimony on this show, there is no question that Gaddafi is a Jew under Jewish – and Israeli law. Gaddafi’s Jewish blood explains his very close connection to the Rothschilds and their preferred intelligence agency – the Mossad. Now it all makes sense. This is also what my Algerian friends have been saying for years about the rulers of Algeria; both Libya and Algeria are oil-rich Jewish dictatorships that oppress the people and steal the wealth.

An Israeli television program in which Gaddafi’s Jewish roots are discussed, by his second cousin in Israel. “With a Jewish Grandma, and a Jewish Mother, Gaddafi may seek refuge in Israel”, according to Israel Insider.

The Israeli television program discusses Gaddafi’s Jewish mother and grandmother. This is how Israel Insider explains the connection:

Israel’s Channel 2 News last year interviewed two Israeli women of Libyan origin who claimed to be relatives of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, Israel Today’s Ryan Jones reminds us.

The older of the two interviewees, Guita Brown, claimed that she is Gaddafi’s second cousin: her grandmother was the sister of Gaddafi’s grandmother. The younger of the two women, Rachel Saada, Brown’s granddaughter , explained in more detail: “The story goes that Gaddafi’s grandmother, a Jewess, was married to a Jewish man at first. But he treated her badly, so she ran away and married a Muslim sheikh. Their child was the mother of Gaddafi.” While Gaddafi’s grandmother converted to Islam when she married the sheikh, according to Jewish religious law (and common sense), she was ethnically still Jewish. And that makes Gaddafi’s mother a Jewess. And if Gaddafi’s mother is a Jewess, what does that make Gaddafi?

At that point in the news report, the anchor exclaimed, “So, the point is that Gaddafi doesn’t just have Jewish relatives, he is Jewish!”

That may come in handy. According to Israel’s Law of Return, anyone with a Jewish grandparent is entitled to become a citizen, no questions asked.

GADDAFI’S CLOSE TIES TO THE ROTHSCHILDS

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, who is seen as the Libyan dictator’s most likely successor, was also a guest of billionaire financiers Jacob and Nat Rothschild at their Corfu villa where the Business Secretary stayed a week…days before it emerged that the Lockerbie bomber was to be freed.
- “Mandy and the Lockerbie bomber and ANOTHER ‘coincidence’ in Corfu”, Daily Mail, 18 August 2009

Swinging London is but one hub of Gadhafi Inc. – a useful networking site where the Rothschilds were able to point Saif Gadhafi to investment opportunities in marina complexes in Montenegro.
– “Gadhafi’s stolen billions stashed in London” Daily Telegraph, 25 February 2011

The evidence indicates that Muammar Qaddafi, who controls the largest oil reserves in Africa, works closely with the Rothschild family and the Mossad. This makes complete sense, if, as the Israeli television program reported, Qaddafi is actually a Jew.

“Fighter aircraft were bombing civilians on the streets of Tripoli, this is unprecedented violence.”
- Ali al-Essawi, Libyan Ambassador to India, 22 February 2011

Gaddafi’s youngest son Khamis was reportedly bringing mercenaries from African countries to fight against anti-regime protestors. Identity cards from Guinea, Niger, Chad, Mauritania and Sudan were found on individuals wearing Libyan uniforms and killed in the eastern city of Benghazi and other locations.
– Using Mercenaries to Quell Libya Revolution

A video image of one of Qaddafi’s mercenaries who was killed…

…while other suspected African mercenaries stand in a room in a court in Benghazi as they are held by anti-Qaddafi protesters, February 24, 2011.

The Qaddafi family is closely tied to and invested with the Rothschild family, which raises the question: Is Muammar Qaddafi, the brutal and mercurial Libyan dictator, working with Israel’s Mossad? The evidence suggests that he is. We need to remember that the Mossad works hand-in-hand with the Rothschild family, which controls global mining and oil production operations. Libya has the largest proven reserves of oil in Africa and exports about 1.5 million barrels per day and has important refineries that supply essential petroleum products to Europe.

Major pipelines of Libya - Green lines are oil, red are gas

Let’s look at the evidence that Qaddafi is working with the Rothschild family and their intelligence agency, the Mossad.

First, Libya invested a reported $500 million into Allen Stanford’s money laundering operation that was exposed two years ago this month to be a scam in which some $8 billion disappeared. Stanford’s operation, based in Antigua and Houston, was one in which senior Mossadniks were both investors and recipients of investments from Allen Stanford. The Israeli venture capital funds which received millions of dollars from Stanford are all closely linked to the Mossad. Yair Shamir, the son of the infamous terrorist leader Yitzchak Shamir, was one of the investors in Stanford’s “bank” in Antigua.

Yair Shamir (inset), the son of the notorious Zionist terrorist Yitzchak Shamir, is chairman and managing partner of the Catalyst Fund, a Mossad venture capital fund that received tens of millions of dollars from the Allen Stanford money-laundering operation. Shamir was also an investor in the Stanford bank.

Qaddafi invested the $500 million in Stanford’s operation three weeks before the fund collapsed owing investors some $8 billion. The Stanford bank was reportedly a Mossad money-laundering operation funded with illegal drug profits. Libya, however, has never made a claim for the lost $500 million. Why would Qaddafi invest half a billion dollars in a Mossad-linked scam and not ask for the money back?

Secondly, there is the Rothschild connection to Qaddafi, through his son Saif. As the Daily Mail reported on February 24:

The friendship of oddball financier Nat Rothschild, 39, scion of one of Europe’s most distinguished Jewish families, with Colonel Gaddafi’s epicene son, Saif, is remarkable. Colonel Gaddafi confiscated all Jewish property in Libya when he came to power. All debts to Jews were cancelled and emigration legally prohibited. But in 2004 – the year Tony Blair befriended the Libyan madman – Gaddafi said he would discuss compensating Jews stripped of their possessions. It’s said Saif – who hoped to succeed his father – was behind these moves. A sop to Nat Rothschild?

Nat Rothschild works closely with the Qaddafi family.

GADHAFI MONEY STASHED IN ROTHSCHILD BANKS

The Daily Telegraph published an article entitled “Gadhafi’s stolen billions stashed in London” that points out the Gadhafi family ties with the Rothschilds:

This was painfully revealed when Saif, a supposed friend of the West, spoke on Libyan television this week. Saif took the awkward manner of an international plutocrat, forced only by circumstances out of his usual exalted milieu of Blairs, Deripaskas, Mandelsons and Rothschilds, to address Libya’s “little people”…Swinging London is but one hub of Gadhafi Inc. – a useful networking site where the Rothschilds were able to point Saif Gadhafi to investment opportunities in marina complexes in Montenegro.

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of the Libyan dictator

In a profile piece on Saif Gaddafi, The Observer provides more details about the Gaddafi family’s close ties to the Rothschild family:

Saif is an acquaintance of Lord Mandelson and met the former Labour minister at a Corfu villa [of Jacob Rothschild] the week before it was announced that the Lockerbie bomber, Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, would be released from a Scottish prison. The two men met again when they were guests at Lord Rothschild’s mansion in Buckinghamshire.

Rothschild’s son and heir, Nat, also a close friend of Mandelson, held a party in New York attended by Saif in 2008. Saif in turn invited Nat Rothschild to his 37th birthday party in Montenegro, where the financier is investing in a luxury resort.

Saif Gaddafi met with Lord Mandelson (left) and Jacob (4th Baron) Rothschild (center) at Rothschild’s villa in Corfu in August 2009, one week before it was announced that the “Lockerbie bomber” would be released from prison. Rothschild’s father (Victor, the 3rd Baron Rothschild) worked in British intelligence during World War II in disinformation and espionage. Victor is alleged to have been a Soviet spy, which led him to state in December 1986, “I am not, and never have been, a Soviet agent.”

Then there is the fact that Tony Blair serves as an adviser to Muammar Qaddafi. But who is Blair serving? It is well known that Blair is a Zionist-controlled politician who has sacrificed hundreds of British lives in the criminal fraud known as the “War on Terror”. The Daily Mail reported in July 2010 that Blair had secret talks with Qaddafi in Tripoli:

Tony Blair was flown to Libya for secret talks with Colonel Gaddafi just days after denying he was an adviser to the dictator. Mr Blair was ‘entertained as a brother’, a senior Libyan government source has revealed. He told the Daily Mail that the former prime minister had offered Gaddafi, with whom he is on first-name terms, ‘a great deal of invaluable advice’.

Mr Blair is said to be on first-name terms with the Libyan dictator and was treated like a ‘brother’ on his visit, according to the Daily Mail (U.K.)…

…although Britain officially blamed Qaddafi for the terror bombing of Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie.

Tony Blair is just one of the many Zionist-controlled politicians who have embraced the madman of Tripoli. Silvio Berlusconi of Italy, for example, who is very close to Qaddafi, was given the “Distinguished Statesman Award” by the Anti-Defamation League of the B’nai B’rith in September 2003. If Qaddafi were really the terrorist behind Pan Am 103, would Berlusconi and all these other Zionist-controlled western leaders be allowed to embrace him as a friend?

Lastly, there is the claim made by Victor Ostrovsky in his books about the Mossad that Israeli agents based in Tripoli had sent messages that appeared to have been sent by Qaddafi’s government. These counterfeit messages were picked up by American intelligence and were used to build their case against Libya. If Mossad was running such sophisticated intelligence operations in Libya in the 1980s it is more than likely that their penetration of Qaddafi’s government had deepened in the 25 years since. The evidence strongly indicates that is the case.

SARAH IN TRIPOLI

The revolt and bloodshed in Libya will certainly lead to the end of the 42-year-old regime of Col. Muammar al-Gaddafi and his thugs. There is very little television footage coming from Libya, but the BBC Newhour program (of February 20) had an excellent telephone interview with a young Libyan woman named Sarah, in Tripoli. This is a very powerful and moving interview that helps one understand what is really happening in Libya. The interview with “Sarah in Tripoli” begins shortly after minute 26 and 30 seconds into the program. One can use the time button and begin listening at 26:30.

The interview can be heard on the BBC World Service website here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/p00drdqn/Newshour_20_02_2011_(210 0_GMT)

Col. Muammar al-Gaddafi has been dictator of oil-rich Libya since 1969

Gaddafi and Silvio Berlusconi of Italy are quite close. Libya has many investments in Italy, the Guardian reported, ”These include a stake of about 2% in Fiat, 7.5% of Juventus football club, a 2% stake in – and joint venture with – Italian aerospace and defence group Finmeccanica and 7.5% in UniCredit, the bank.”

Britain’s Tony Blair, who is controlled by Zionist money, was quite willing to embrace the madman of Libya – the same Arab tyrant who is said to have been behind the terror bombing over Lockerbie. How much sense does this make?

Much evidence and reasons as to why these ‘revolutions’ are orchestrated by the West:
- David Cameron lands in Tahrir square to proclaim to the West that the revolution is in Western interests (What more evidence do you need? Since when do Western leaders go to anti-Western revolutions and proclaim that they support them? Usually these visits are arranged months in advance.)
- Failure of the West to seek to stop the revolutions
- Western media support of the revolutions
- Wikileaks shows that activists were trained and financed by the US – this information was publicized in order to tell Western foreign office establishments not to impede the revolutions
- Involvement of the Western/Saudi financed Muslim Brotherhood in all revolutions
- Bourgeois demands made by Egyptian protesters
- Elite making use of Middle Eastern revolution by jacking up oil prices
- Revolutions are going to a calendar not spontaneously – Tunisia’s leader went, then it moved to Egypt and after their leader went, it has gone to Libya, Saudi Arabia next
- Military complicity in revolutions – the West told Egyptian government not to clamp down on protests
- The global consciousness is happening in an energy strategic region
- The West was clearly not wrong-footed because they trained the people who are organizing it
- Nothing has yet happened that is not in the interests of the West
- Today programme report that Egyptian special forces supporting anti-Gaddaffi rebellion
- Western special forces in Libya supporting anti-Gaddaffi rebellion
- Israel are clearly not that worried and have not put their forces on high alert

The West will push Egypt and Tunisia into invading Libya.

Under Bush, the US announced a major effort to “support democracy” in Iran with millions of dollars. A few years later, Iran’s rebellion began. If they can organize that in Iran, why not elsewhere?

Anti-Western sentiment is spreading across the globe. Clearly, the Anglo-American establishment know this. They are becoming desparate. They organized the Middle East rebellions to pre-empt a genuine revolution.

So, what are the reasons that conflict with the idea that these are genuine revolutions?

German imperialism and the crisis in Libya
2 March 2011
As Colonel Muammar Gaddafi has faced increasing internal opposition from the working masses and sections of his own regime, Germany has emerged as a full-fledged participant in the great power drive for imperialist intervention in Libya.
Already a week ago the German navy sent three warships with 600 soldiers on board to the Libyan coast—at a time when the United States was still contemplating its response. At the end of last week, two German military Transall planes flew from Crete to Libya, ostensibly to rescue EU citizens from the Al-Nafoura oil installation. Several paratroop units trained for covert operations behind enemy lines had joined the Transall units in Crete.
The German media has pushed for a Libyan no-fly zone. As in Iraq, this would be the first step towards targeting Libya’s warplanes and seizing control of Libya’s air space. The media has also pressed for the seizure of Libyan funds abroad.
These measures are justified on humanitarian grounds—to protect the insurgent population from the Gaddafi regime. Such humanitarian pretexts are utterly cynical and without any credibility. There were no similar proposals for German forces to be deployed to evacuate European civilians from other pro-Western regimes—such as Egypt, Tunisia, Bahrain and Yemen—that fired upon their people in the course of the mass uprisings sweeping North Africa and the Middle East.
The reasons why media and state officials advocate different treatment for Libya are not hard to fathom. Libya is large, sparsely populated, and contains massive reserves of a critical commodity that it exports in large quantities to Europe—oil. It offers a more tempting target for direct plunder by Western imperialism, which continues to stagger under the shocks of the global economic crisis.
German corporations have developed extensive interests in Libya since 2004, when then Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, a Social Democrat, first visited Gaddafi. BASF subsidiary Wintershall, based on an investment of $2 billion, has developed into the largest foreign oil producer in Libya. German industrial companies such as Siemens are also heavily involved in Libya, earning large sums from infrastructure projects financed by Libya’s oil revenues.
Germany, no less than the United States and the other imperialist powers, fears the implications of a political vacuum should Gaddafi fall. It is currently unclear who is leading the opposition movement. In interviews from Benghazi and other cities held by anti-Gaddafi forces, many people have made clear that they oppose an intervention by the great powers.
Libya, which suffered heavily under the colonial rule of Italy, has a long tradition of anti-imperialist struggle—a tradition that Gaddafi exploited before he made his peace with imperialism.
To defend the investments German corporations worked out with the Gaddafi dictatorship, Berlin must be able to threaten—and, therefore, to use—military force. This is a major reason why the German army and navy are sending forces to the region.
The open assertion of Berlin’s imperialist appetites goes hand-in-hand with the resurgence of public rivalry with other imperialist powers for the division of the spoils. Commenting on Westerwelle’s performance in Geneva, Spiegel Online wrote: “Germany is playing an active role in the Mediterranean and not conceding terrain to France and Italy, which are more compromised than Berlin due to their links with former and existing potentates in North Africa. After initial hesitation regarding the rulers in Tunisia and Egypt, the foreign minister was quite blunt in the case of Libya.”
The precipitate and reckless haste of the German ruling elite to flex its military muscle in Libya suggests that it sees the crisis there as an opportunity to shed whatever remnants remain of the post-World War II restrictions on the German military.
For Germany, intervention in Libya represents a further step towards the country’s full return to the circle of major powers. It follows the country’s participation in both the 1999 Kosovo war and the NATO occupation of Afghanistan, and a concerted campaign by leading German politicians to overcome the anti-militarist sentiment in the German population—the product of the devastating experiences of Nazism and two world wars.
After German President Horst Köhler resigned last May to protest criticisms of his statement that Germany’s Afghan deployment aimed to protect economic interests, Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg publicly advocated the use of military forces to defend German economic interests.
The main political brake preventing the spread of imperialist war throughout the Middle East, and ultimately the world, is opposition in the working masses. The great powers have not yet decided to openly dispatch troops to the Libyan mainland, fearing they could become trapped in an endless war against the population, as in Afghanistan, and that this could provoke popular opposition—both at home, where the wars are hated, and among the Middle Eastern masses who are now rising up against imperialist-backed dictatorships throughout the region.
This means, however, that the question of developing a new political perspective and political leadership for the rapidly developing struggles of the working class takes on the greatest urgency. The critical question is how the working class can fight the imperialist drive towards war.
Germany’s conservative government has been able to pursue its military aims unhindered due to the lack of any opposition by the established political parties, which have adopted openly pro-militarist and pro-imperialist positions and suppressed mass anti-war sentiment.
The chair of the Social Democratic (SPD) parliamentary fraction and former foreign minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has expressly welcomed the UN Security Council sanctions and the German government's support for them. His vice-chairman, Gernot Erler, supports a flight ban and a mandate under Chapter 7 of the Charter of the United Nations. This clause was used by the US government to justify the Iraq war.
Support has also come from the camp of the Greens. On February 25, Green Party leader Claudia Roth attacked the German government for being too soft on Libya. “The deliberations by the EU for sanctions against the Gaddafi regime come too late and are more than overdue,” Roth said. She criticized the inaction of the European Union and called upon the government “to help shape EU policy against Gaddafi with a clear plan of action” and “push for a unified, rapid and effective sanctions policy.”
The Left Party has notably held back from commenting on the situation in Libya and has refrained from criticizing the deployment of the German navy along the Libyan coast, in common with the SPD and Greens. Instead, it is preparing to undermine and demobilize any opposition to a new war.
Executive member Christine Buchholz, who entered the Left Party as a member of the Linksruck (International Socialist) fraction, issued a short statement entitled “Libya: No Military Intervention.” In it she calls for an arms embargo but advises against a military intervention, arguing that it would drive “the people behind the regime and cost a lot of lives.”
This demonstrates the unprincipled role of the Left Party, which functions as an adviser to the German government on the best tactics to defend its imperialist interests. Buchholz does not advance a principled opposition to imperialist intervention in Libya, warning of the colonialist character of any sanctions by the great powers and insisting that it is the task of the Libyan masses themselves, not imperialism, to rid themselves of both Gaddafi and the Libyan bourgeoisie as a whole.
She speaks on behalf of neither the Libyan nor the German working class, which must see in Westerwelle and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, as well as their counterparts in the SPD, their most bitter class enemies.
The social and political issues that have driven millions into the streets in the Maghreb and the Middle East—poverty, inequality, the lack of democratic rights—cannot be resolved within the framework of the capitalist system. These same issues are impelling millions of workers in Germany, Europe and throughout the world into struggle against the financial aristocracy and its ossified political system.
The struggle for democracy is inextricably linked to the struggle for workers’ power and the socialist transformation of society throughout the region and worldwide. German workers must demonstrate their solidarity with the Libyan and Arab workers by opposing any military intervention and mobilizing against the exploiters at home on the basis of socialist and internationalist policies.

600 Black Watch soldiers on 24-hour standby to fly in
50 people killed and 300 wounded in clashes at Zawiyah
Britain is to send teams of spies and diplomats into Libya to help oust Colonel Gaddafi, it emerged last night.
MI6 operatives backed by the SAS are to land in the east around the key rebel stronghold of Benghazi 'within days'.
In addition, 600 soldiers of the Black Watch are on 24-hour standby to fly in and avert a humanitarian catastrophe as Libya erupted into a new wave of bloodshed.

Intervention in Libya would poison the Arab revolution
Western military action against Gaddafi risks spreading the conflict and undermining the democratic movement

Seumas Milne - guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 2 March 2011 22.00 GMT
It's as if the bloodbaths of Iraq and Afghanistan had been a bad dream. The liberal interventionists are back. As insurrection and repression has split Libya in two and the death toll has mounted, the old Bush-and-Blair battle-cries have returned to haunt us.
The same western leaders who happily armed and did business with the Gaddafi regime until a fortnight ago have now slapped sanctions on the discarded autocrat and blithely referred him to the international criminal court the United States won't recognise.
While American and British politicians have ramped up talk of a no-fly zone, US warships have been sent to the Mediterranean, a stockpile of chemical weapons has been duly discovered, special forces have been in action, Italy has ditched a non-aggression treaty with Tripoli and a full-scale western military intervention in yet another Arab country is suddenly a serious prospect.............

I have wondered for a long time, why in Egypt, Tunisia and Bahrain, the protesters were almost exclusively peaceful and unarmed, however in Libya, they are armed fighters and look like soldiers. Thermate and Tony got me wondering. Now this from Global Research:

Global Research wrote:
Before the chaos erupted, Libya had a lower incarceration rate than the Czech republic.

Libya had the lowest infant mortality rate of all of Africa. Libya had the highest life expectancy of all of Africa.

Less than 5% of the population was undernourished.

In response to the rising food prices around the world, the government of Libya abolished ALL taxes on food.

Libya had the highest gross domestic product (GDP) at purchasing power parity (PPP) per capita of all of Africa.

Libya had the highest Human Development Index of any country on the continent.

In Libya, a lower percentage of people lived below the poverty line than in the Netherlands.

As Thermate said, "... who is enabling this spate of uprisings"? This one (IMO) is not a popular protest against poverty, rising food prices and corruption.

The more I think about this, the more I think the Arab revolutions are being orchestrated by the Anglo-American establishment. This does not mean that there are millions of people who are on the march and want change. But the organisers are working in collaboration with the West.

The question you should ask is: how would the West respond to a genuine uprising that was sweeping through the Arab world that caught them unawares?

There would be panic.

- A row would break out between the various US intelligence services and State Departments for not seeing this
- The CIA’s head of the Middle East would be hounded out of his job
- Republicans would be calling for Hiliary Clinton to resign
- There would be US congress people and Senators demanding military intervention to protect oil supplies and “our way of life” – indeed there would be a propaganda campaign
- There would be endless programmes in the US debating what should happen
- There would be emergency meetings among G7 heads
- NATO would be in permanent session
- The US would sign security treaties with friendly Arab states
- US bases would be set up in various friendly Arab states
- Security advisers would be flown in to help Arab states remain stable using “humanitarian means”
- State Department ministers and CIA chiefs would be in and out of Arab states on a regular basis
- We’d be told that Al Qaida is organising the rebellions
- Finance chiefs and gurus would be telling us oil-price Armageddon is around the corner
- You’d know what German leaders think about the revolutions – because they’d be on news shows telling you along with lots of other leaders
- Western media would go into panic mode
- US forces would go to Def Con 4 (second lowest level of readiness)

I see no sign that there is any significant fear among Western elites about these so-called revolutions.

They know they don't/won't have it all their way because of Russia, China, South America, etc.

I posted my above post on indymedia and added a few comments.

My additions included pooh-poohing the idea of Gaddaffi being a ‘brutal, bloodstained dictator’ by comparing him to a real one - Saddam Hussein.

I asked people to imagine telling Saddam that a bunch of people armed with flags, revolutionary songs and frying pans would take over a part of Iraq.

I’d say him, his bodyguards and assistants would spend the next half and hour on the floor laughing.

And what kind of ‘brutal, bloodstained dictator’ would appoint generals and UN ambassadors who would resign when called on to kill rebellious people? The idea is a joke.

My post went up but has now disappeared - as if it never existed.

You could say that about many politicians. Which is part of the plan, so as eventully the so called ptb can offer their solution and we (truth movements) are assisting them.

I could post a link to how this is happening, but most often it results in the post and link being removed or being banned from forums, truth groups, etc.

If this is all engineered from Washington, then you have replaced reality with Alice in Wonderland.

So Gaddafi whilst working for the West is being dropped by the West so they intervene in the country and open up a third war front?

You argue everything is going to plan so therefore the two wars allready that have occurred in Afghanistan and Iraq did not lead to the bankruptcy of the USA but to its continued boom... So presumabely they engineered the collapse to ...profit from it? Capitalism aint collapsing and millions aint on the move but because Cameron arrives in Egypt he is controlling the events?

If you are trying to catch a bolted horse that doesn't imply you opened the door of the stable.

Egypt is continuing to have widespread strikes. One presumes going on strike is a plan which serves western interests as you ask for more money and they just cough up, there are no inflationary pressures linked to the high oil prices and all you have to do is just keep increasing prices and wages indefinitely. So everyone everywhere has become a bankster essentially, they can price themselves out of reality by just writing their own cheques?

And you arguments aint Alice in Wonderland?

Did the arrival of 2 million non-Liubyans to work for the oil and gas industry expansion lead to home grown rebellion or not?

Web link gives numbers of foreign born workers in Libya.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-12552374

If the numbers are to be believed and if we take the Egyptian to be
'foreigners'
there are approximately around 1.8m non Libyans in Libya.

Taking into account unemployment in 2004 was 30% out of an active
population of 1.8million
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/ly.ht ml
we see another Libya has been added onto the labour force. What is the
real unemployment today then?
50-60%?

Its funny how Gaddafi blames the revolt on Al CIAda and so does the Yemeni leader BOTH of whom are US Collaborators...

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------

Intervention in Libya would poison the Arab revolutionWestern military action against Gaddafi risks spreading the conflict and undermining the democratic movement

Seumas Milne guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 2 March 2011 22.00 GMT Article historyIt's as if the bloodbaths of Iraq and Afghanistan had been a bad dream.

While American and British politicians have ramped up talk of a no-fly zone, US warships have been sent to the Mediterranean, a stockpile of chemical weapons has been duly discovered, special forces have been in action, Italy has ditched a non-aggression treaty with Tripoli and a full-scale western military intervention in yet another Arab country is suddenly a serious prospect.

Egged on by his neoconservative lieutenants, David Cameron went furthest. Fresh from his tour selling arms to Gulf despots, the British prime minister talked excitedly about arming Libyan rebels, and only staged a hasty retreat when he found himself running ahead of the US administration.

But neither American caution nor UN security council opposition should obscure the fact that there is now a serious danger of western armed action in Libya. Unlike in the rest of the region, we are no longer talking mainly about the security forces confronting demonstrators but a split in the heart of the regime and the military, with large areas of the country in the hands of an armed opposition.

With Colonel Gaddafi and his loyalists showing every sign of digging in, the likelihood must be of intensified conflict – with all the heightened pretexts that would offer for outside interference, from humanitarian crises to threats to oil supplies.

But any such intervention would risk disaster and be a knife at the heart of the revolutionary process now sweeping the Arab world. Military action is needed, US and British politicians claim, because Gaddafi is "killing his own people". Hundreds have certainly died, but that's hard to take seriously as the principal motivation.

When more than 300 people were killed by Hosni Mubarak's security forces in a couple of weeks, Washington initially called for "restraint on both sides". In Iraq, 50,000 US occupation troops protect a government which last Friday killed 29 peaceful demonstrators demanding reform. In Bahrain, home of the US fifth fleet, the regime has been shooting and gassing protesters with British-supplied equipment for weeks.

The "responsibility to protect" invoked by those demanding intervention in Libya is applied so selectively that the word hypocrisy doesn't do it justice. And the idea that states which are themselves responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands in illegal wars, occupations and interventions in the last decade, along with mass imprisonment without trial, torture and kidnapping, should be authorised by international institutions to prevent killings in other countries is simply preposterous. The barefaced cheek of William Hague's insistence that there would be a "day of reckoning" for the Libyan regime if it committed crimes or atrocities took some beating.

The reality is that the western powers which have backed authoritarian kleptocrats across the Middle East for decades now face a loss of power in the most strategically sensitive region of the world as a result of the Arab uprisings and the prospect of representative governments. They are evidently determined to appropriate the revolutionary process wherever possible, limiting it to cosmetic change that allows continued control of the region.

In Libya, the disintegration of the regime offers a crucial opening. Even more important, unlike Tunisia and Egypt, it has the strategic prize of the largest oil reserves in Africa. Of course the Gaddafi regime has moved a long way from the days when it took over the country's oil, kicked out foreign bases and funded the African National Congress at a time when the US and Britain branded Nelson Mandela a terrorist.

Along with repression, corruption and a failure to deliver to ordinary Libyans, the regime has long since bent the knee to western power, as Tony Blair and his friends were so keen to celebrate, ditching old allies and nuclear ambitions while offering privatised pickings and contracts to western banks, arms and oil corporations such as BP.

Now the prospect of the regime's fall offers the chance for much closer involvement – western intelligence has had its fingers in parts of the Libyan opposition for years – when other states seem in danger of spinning out of the imperial orbit.

But Libya has a compelling history of foreign occupation and resistance. Up to a third of the population are estimated to have died under Italian colonial rule. Those calling for western military action in Libya seem brazenly untroubled by the fact that throughout the Arab world, foreign intervention, occupation and support for dictatorship is regarded as central to the problems of the region. Inextricably tied up with the demand for democratic freedoms is a profound desire for independence and self-determination.

That is clear in reaction on the ground in Libya to the threat of outside intervention. As one of the rebel military leaders in Benghazi, General Ahmad Gatroni, said this week, the US should "take care of its own people, we can look after ourselves".

No-fly zones, backed by some other opposition figures, would involve a military attack on Libya's air defences and, judging from the Iraqi experience, be highly unlikely to halt regime helicopter or ground operations. They would risk expanding military conflict and strengthening Gaddafi's hand by allowing the regime to burnish its anti-imperialist credentials. Military intervention wouldn't just be a threat to Libya and its people, but to the ownership of what has been until now an entirely organic, homegrown democratic movement across the region.

The embattled US-backed Yemeni president Ali Abdallah Saleh claimed on Tuesday that the region-wide protest movement was "managed by Tel Aviv and under the supervision of Washington". That is easily dismissed as a hallucinogenic fantasy now. It would seem less so if the US and Britain were arming the Libyan opposition. The Arab revolution will be made by Arabs, or it won't be a revolution at all.
