NEW YORK CITY POLICE FOUNDATION — NEW YORK
JPMorgan Chase recently donated an unprecedented $4.6 million to the New York City Police Foundation. The gift was the largest in the history of the foundation and will enable the New York City Police Department to strengthen security in the Big Apple. The money will pay for 1,000 new patrol car laptops, as well as security monitoring software in the NYPD's main data center.
New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly sent CEO and Chairman Jamie Dimon a note expressing "profound gratitude" for the company's donation.
"These officers put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe," Dimon said. "We're incredibly proud to help them build this program and let them know how much we value their hard work."

That would explain how they can arrange for 700 arrests yesterday...

Quote:

More than 700 people were arrested on the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday evening during a march by anti-Wall Street protesters who have been occupying a downtown Manhattan square for two weeks.

...
However, during the march across the bridge groups of protesters sat down or strayed into the road from the pedestrian pathway. They were then arrested in large numbers by officers who were part of a heavy police presence shepherding the march along its path.

... the sit-down protest appeared to happen only after the protesters were deliberately blocked off by police after actually being allowed onto the roadway. "They met the police line and ended up being arrested one by one," said Damon Eris, another protester.

Occupy Wall Street protesters march from Liberty Plaza to the Brooklyn Bridge on the afternoon of Saturday, October 1, 2011. Blocked by the police from crossing the footpath, a large group of protesters chose the roadbed, which is reserved for cars. The arrests seen in this video happened between around 4:30 and 5 p.m.

Hello World,

I've been on the lookout for useful documents lately. Information that has been gathered almost in its entirety from the protests in Spain (#spanishrevolution). Truth be said, Spanish protesters seemed to have imitated the strategies of Tahrir Sq in Cairo. I share this documents, hoping that in the following months they will be of use to many of you.

On September 17th, we will experience a global anti-banks day (see: http://antibanks.takethesquare.net/) to which I hope you can join us. On October 15th, there are calls for demonstrations worldwide by a civic-platform in Spain known as Real Democracy Now (see: http://international.democraciarealya.es/october-15th/). In the UK, Anonymous has joined such call to action under the name of #OpUnity (see: https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=263320750352424).

I hereby provide you all, my fellow protesters, with several guides. Not all of them may be applicable to your country, but they will still be useful to illustrate you and your surroundings:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9TE0YYGT

Let me give you a brief intro to each of the documents available...

"Mobile Tactics for Participants in Peaceful Assemblies" - Will show us how to use 3G Mobile phones to quickly spread a message, tactics to avoid authorities during 'heated' moments and generally some good tips in the use of this new technology for and by protesters.

Police will generally infiltrate such movements and try to bend and or break the rules that citizens try to follow during peaceful protests, in order to create an excuse for police intervention. Such was the recent case in Barcelona this summer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyFC5kcXVec). It seems that after such flagrant evidence being recorded and posted everywhere, such procedures have so far not been repeated.
Therefore a good strategy to ensure the peaceful unfolding of our rights is to record those inciting or carrying out violence as well as standing away or sitting down. Put your hands up in the air or brace with fellow protesters to show media that you are clearly abiding by the principles of non-violence.

"Bustcard" - It is a 6 page document that illustrates in a concise way what are your rights when being stopped by the authorities, it also provides useful contacts when arrested during political campaigns. (NB: It applies only to UK legislation since it was done by GBC, look for a similar organisation in your country for a helping hand http://greenandblackcross.org/)

"Consflow" - A one page diagram showing neatly how consensus may be reached, truth be said the process is far more complex, but it is extremely useful to inform wider public and those beginning in assemblies.

"Doing It" - A document with some interesting thoughts on 'Doing It Without Leaders'. Talks about consensus, role of leadership and alternatives to our current lifestyle and how it is organised.

"Dynamisation of Popular Assemblies (ES&EN)" - This document was produced by one of the Commissions from AcampadaSol (Madrid). Here, the Assembly Dynamisation Commission shared some of their thoughts on how to organise and make effective popular assemblies by their experiences in Madrid during the mass protests. Some useful tips for those starting in the role of moderators, spokespersons, minutes team and the like. Thanks to 15M London for the translation (http://www.15mlondon.org/).

"Handbook for Non-Violent Campaigns" - An extensive guide (152 pgs.) by anti-war activists. It talks about non-violence itself and how can it be understood. It also provides training exercises and strategies of non-violence as well as some case studies.

"ShortConsensus" - A slightly more extensive version of the previous "Consflow". Some more tips on how to reach consensus and organising assemblies via spokespersons for instance.

"Why & How We Camped in Madrid" - (Several Languages) It gives a first-hand version of the motivations behind the protests, links to further info, organisational charts and more valuable info when setting up extensive protest camps.

I trully hope you put all this knowledge to good use, see you on the streets!

late Sunday night Bristol-Moscow link up - it's your web-slave on the Wall Street occupation
A wave of public discontent in the U.S. shows no sign of abating, following Saturday's protest, where hundreds of peaceful demonstrators were arrested, sparking accusations of heavy-handed policing. Defiant anti-Wall street activists refuse to back down, saying more marches against corporate greed and social inequality are in the pipeline. Both the crackdown on Wall street and the way existing financial institutions are run, show that 'U.S. democracy' is just an empty phrase - that's according to UK-based investigative journalist Tony Gosling.

I hear that "Occupy" demonstrations are springing up all over the US. Here is an open letter from the organizers of "Occupy Santa Barbara," who are mostly in their 30s and have never organized anything like this before. Santa Barbara is a town of 100,000 about 90 miles north of Los Angeles.

To Whom It May Concern:

I have been authorized to speak for Occupy Santa Barbara, an association of concerned citizens who stand in solidarity with the #OccupyWallStreet protesters in New York and nationwide. We share in their dissatisfaction with corporate and banking malfeasance. We identify with their frustration and bafflement over the federal government's unwillingness or inability to protect its constituents from said malfeasance. We aspire to meet them in their dedication to reason, cooperation, and collaborative decision-making, in order that we as a united people might overcome our troubles and emerge a stronger, better nation.

The formation of Occupy Santa Barbara is not only a symbolic proclamation of frustration with Wall Street's tacit philosophy of profits-over-people, the culture of corporate ascendancy and its ever-increasing stranglehold on our lawfully elected government, the predatory zeal of major banks—which is directly responsible for the collapse of countless businesses, has wreaked havoc on our monetary system, and spelled financial ruin for thousands upon thousands of families. It is also an opportunity to shape a way forward from the straits we as individuals and as a nation have found ourselves in.

Occupy Santa Barbara is a peaceful, non-violent organization comprised of community members from points as disparate as Ojai and Santa Maria, Isla Vista and Orcutt, Vandenburg and Montecito. We are electricians and web developers, teachers and retail workers, baristas and lawyers, union organizers, students, fashion consultants. Some of us are unemployed and destitute. Some of us have achieved material success and earned great respect in the community. We share a deep and abiding affection for Santa Barbara, and we welcome the input of, seek to engage participation from, and offer mutual support to all of its citizens.

Our message is positive. We strongly advocate investment in local businesses, involvement in community organizations, and healthy participation in the political system of Santa Barbara at the city and county levels. Our local concerns range from income disparity, rising property taxes, and the displacement of workers in both the public and private sectors who provide essential services to our community—such as our police and firefighters, our postal workers and letter carriers, our nurses and teachers, our laborers and tradesmen—to unemployment, gang violence and the rising tide of homelessness. We seek an open and positive dialogue, with each other and with our local government, to more fully understand these issues and to work together in finding a mutually beneficial solution.

Our position is nonpartisan. We are Democrats and Republicans, we are radical Socialists and free-market Capitalists, we are limited government, we are welfare supporters, we are woodcrafters and survivalists, we are technophiles and urbanites, we are city mice and country mice. It is not our intent to campaign for or otherwise endorse candidates running for political office—but we do encourage council members, county officials, candidates, and other interested parties in government to join in our discussion, to support our cause, and to reach out to the growing section of the community for whom government appears increasingly incomprehensible and disinterested.

These issues are daunting, but they are not insoluble. Occupy Santa Barbara represents the first few hesitant steps in finding, through thoughtful discussion and consensus-building, a way for the community to improve itself, to prosper economically and thrive creatively, to empower the downtrodden and the dispirited in raising themselves out of despair as well as to inflame the passion and curiosity of those whose hard work and achievement have brought them well-deserved wealth and comfort. In that spirit, we request your endorsement as we hold our inaugural demonstration at 12:30PM on Monday, October 3 in De La Guerra Plaza. More than three hundred citizens have already pledged their attendance; we hope you will add your voices to ours, as your participation is key to the success of Occupy Santa Barbara.

Respectfully and In Solidarity,

Occupy Santa Barbara
http://occupysb.org

P.S. Should you elect to attend the demonstration—either to participate or merely to observe—we humbly request your assistance in our effort to reduce environmental impact wherever possible; those of us for whom it is feasible have pledged to walk, employ public transportation or carpool to the event, and to leave the site in as beautiful a condition as we found it. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Quote:
Marines Heading To Wall Street To Protect Protesters

- 04. Oct, 2011

This is a war against people who are utilizing their constitutional rights.

by Tim King / My Catbird Seat

(SALEM, Ore.) – The protesters on Wall Street will soon have the protection of United States Marines who will form a human wall between the crowds of tireless protesters and the increasingly unpopular New York cops who continue to appear on YouTube in scenes that twist the insides of patriotic Americans.

Michael Hayne, a Comedian and Columnist who has contributed to NY Times Laugh Lines, guest-blogged for Joe Biden, and writes a column for MSNBC.com affiliated Cagle, wasn’t joking when he related the information this weekend on the Website Addicting Info.

The news is welcome, particularly as people continue to learn more about Wall Street and New York City and the nature of the people in the upper echelons. Not only have Americans watched the players on Wall Street shove the nation’s future into their wallets, but there are more specific reasons that the police are behaving in a corrupt manner, they’re being paid off by groups like JPMorgan Chase, which recently donated:

“… an unprecedented $4.6 million to the New York City Police Foundation. The gift was the largest in the history of the foundation and will enable the New York City Police Department to strengthen security in the Big Apple.”-JPMorgan Chase

Strengthen security? This is a war against people who are utilizing their constitutional rights.

There are many sayings associated with the United States Marine Corps, and most have something to do with honor and decency and respect for the right things. Sure, many people disapprove of this band of warriors due to the nature of their business, but I personally see it differently, and it would be impossible to do otherwise, as I was once a member of this military group.

At any rate, I like the way Haynes looks at it:

“That’s the type of support that may make an NYPD cop think twice before he decides to go all Tiananmen Square on a group of teenage girls, armed with chalk and cardboard signs (maybe it’s because they are spelled properly?).

“The Occupy Wall Street movement may have thought it broke new ground when the NYC Transit Union joined their movement, but that ground just tipped the Richter Scale with news that United States Army and Marine troops are reportedly on their way to various protest locations to support the movement and to protect the protesters.”

Here’s the message Ward Reilly relayed from another Marine, on his facebook page:

“I’m heading up there tonight in my dress blues. So far, 15 of my fellow marine buddies are meeting me there, also in Uniform. I want to send the following message to Wall St and Congress:

I didn’t fight for Wall St. I fought for America. Now it’s Congress’ turn.

My true hope, though, is that we Veterans can act as first line of defense between the police and the protester. If they want to get to some protesters so they can mace them, they will have to get through the * Marine Corps first. Let’s see a cop mace a bunch of decorated war vets. I apologize now for typos and errors.

Typing this on iPhone whilst heading to NYC. We can organize once we’re there. That’s what we do best.If you see someone in uniform, gather together.

A formation will be held tonight at 10PM.

‘Anonymous threat’ plot to undermine Wall Street protest?
https://www.rt.com/news/anonymous-wall-street-attack-117/
Published: 05 October, 2011, 15:12

Quote:
The hacker group Anonymous says the reсent announcement that it will attack the New York Stock Exchange is actually a false flag operation to mar the Occupy Wall Street protests.
The initial threat, posted on Monday said that on October 10 the Anonymous would launch a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on NYSE, which would “erase” it “from the internet”.

Over past years, similar attacks have brought down websites of several organizations, which the hacktivists targeted for their actions like prosecuting online pirates or obstructing the whistleblower site WikiLeaks.

The new attack was dubbed Invade Wall Street in parallel to the ongoing country-wide protests.

“We… declare a popular war against the New York Stock Exchange. The 10th of October is a day that will never be forgotten,” a statement posted from the group’s name says.

However, as the FBI assured that it is investigating the supposed future cyber attack, the Anonymous group came up with a denial.

“Operation Invade Wall Street is bs! It is a fake planted operation by law enforcement and cyber crime agencies in order to get you to undermine the Occupy Wall Street movement,” the new statement said.

The text went on to expose an alleged plan of those behind the operation to make supporters of the Anonymous reveal their identities by using flawed software in the attack on NYSE.

The events resemble the August threat to take down the social network Facebook, which Anonymous first voiced and later retracted.

The fuss around the stock exchange may actually be a clever plot by law enforcers using the masked nature of the hacktivist movement against them, an action by a rival online community with goals different to those voiced by the Anonymous earlier, or simply faction struggle within the group itself. The general public can only guess.

Anonymous Threatens to 'Erase' the NYSE
Published: Tuesday, 4 Oct 2011 | 4:24 PM ET Text Size
By: John Carney

Quote:
Anonymous has declared "war" on the New York Stock Exchange.

In a video posted to TheAnonPress YouTube account October 3rd, Anonymous said it would "erase" the NYSE from the Internet on October 10th.

"On Oct. 10, NYSE shall be erased from the Internet. On October 10, expect a day that will never, ever be forgotten," the creepy digital voice says.

It's not clear if this would just be an attack on the NYSE website or on the electronic communications of the exchange itself. Obviously, an attack on the latter would be a lot more serious since it could interfere with financial market operations.

A spokesman for the NYSE could not be reached immediately.

Journalist Luke Rudkowski was attacked by police Wednesday night while trying to document the Occupy Wall Street arrests in NY. NYPD used pepper spray, batons, and brute force to move protesters away from the entrance to Wall Street after many tried to push through police barricades. Rumors immediately circulated that police provocateurs dressed as protesters were to blame for the incident.

The text of the statement issued from Zuccotti Park:

Quote:
“As we gather together in solidarity to express a feeling of mass injustice we must not lose sight of what brought us together. We write so that all people who feel wronged by the corporate forces of the world can know that we are your allies. As one people, united, we acknowledge the reality that the future of the human race requires the cooperation of its members. That our system must protect our rights, and upon corruption of that system, it is up to the individuals to protect their own rights, and those of their neighbors. That a democratic government derives its just power from the people, but corporations do not seek consent to extract wealth from the people, and the Earth, and that no true democracy is attainable when the process is determined by economic power.

We come to you at a time when corporations — which place profit over people, self-interest over justice, and oppression over equality — run our governments. We have peaceably assembled here as is our right to let these facts be known.

They have taken our houses through an illegal foreclosure process, despite not having the original mortgage.
They have taken bailouts from taxpayers with impunity, and continue to give executives exorbitant bonuses.
They have perpetuated inequality and discrimination in workplaces based on age, the color of one’s skin, sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation.
They have poisoned the food supply through negligence, and undermined the farming system through monopolization.
They have profited off the torture, confinement, and cruel treatment of countless animals, and actively hide these practices.
They have continuously sought to strip employees of the right to negotiate for better pay and safer working conditions.
They have held students hostage with tens of thousands of dollars of debt on education, which is, itself, a human right.
They have consistently outsourced labor and used that outsourcing as leverage to cut worker’s health care and pay.
They have influenced the courts to achieve the same rights as people with none of the culpability or responsibility.
They have spent millions of dollars on legal teams, but look for ways to get them out of contracts in regards to health insurance.
They have sold our privacy as a commodity.
They have used the military and police force to prevent freedom of the press.
They have deliberately declined to recall faulty products, endangering lives in pursuit of profit.
They determine economic policy despite the catastrophic failures their policies have produced and continue to produce.
They have donated large sums of money to politicians, who are responsible for regulating them.
They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil.
They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people’s lives, or provide relief in order to protect investments that have
already turned a substantial profit.
They have purposely covered up oil spills, accidents, faulty bookkeeping, and inactive ingredients in pursuit of profit.
They purposefully kept people misinformed and fearful through their control of the media.
They have accepted private contracts to murder prisoners, even when presented with serious doubts about their guilt.
They have perpetuated colonialism at home and abroad.
They have participated in the torture and murder of innocent civilians overseas.
They continue to create weapons of mass destruction in order to receive government contracts.

To the people of the world,
We, the New York City general assembly occupying Wall Street in Liberty Square, urge you to assert your power.
Exercise your right to peaceably assemble, occupy public space, create a process to address the problems we face, and generate solutions accessible to everyone.
To all communities that take action and form groups in the spirit of direct democracy, we offer support, documentation, and all of the resources at our disposal.
Join us and make your voices heard.”

How COINTELPRO really works and destroys social movements: Open letter from former Tea Partier to Occupy Wall Street protesters

© Robert Johnson
I don't expect you to believe me. I want you to read this, take it with a grain of salt, and do the research yourself. You may not believe me, but I want your movement to succeed. From a former tea partier to you, young new rebels, there's some advice to prevent what happened to our now broken movement from happening to you. I don't agree with everything your movement does, but I sympathize with your cause and agree on our common enemy. You guys are very intelligent and I trust that you will take this in the spirit it is intended.

I wish I could believe this Occupy Wall Street was still about (r)Evolution, but so far, all I am seeing is a painful rehash of how the government turned the pre-Presidential election tea party movement into the joke it is now. We were anarchists and ultra-libertarians, but above all we were peaceful. So, the media tried painting us as racists. But when that didn't work they tried to goad us into violence. When that failed, they killed our movement with money and false kindness from the theocratic arm of the Republican party. That killed our popular support.

I am sharing these observations, so you guys know what's going on and can prevent the media from succeeding in painting you as violent slacker hippies rebelling without a cause, or from having the movement be hijacked by a bunch of corporatists seeking to twist the movement's original intentions. If you think this can't happen, it happened to the Independence Party and the tea party movement. Don't let it happen to your movement as well.

Comment: What the author details comes right out of the Ponerization/Cointelpro playbook described in Andrew Lobaczewski's Political Ponerology.

Here's how they turned our movement into a bunch of pro-corporate Republican party rebranding astroturf, and this is how I predict they are turning your movement into a bunch of pro-corporate Democratic party rebranding astroturf. I believe many of these things are already happening, so take note.

1- The media will initially and purposely avoid covering your dissenting movement to cause confusion about what your movement is about within mainstream audiences. This is to enrage you and make you appear unreasonable, and perhaps even invisible.

2- While the obfuscation is happening, corporatists/government stooges will infiltrate and give superficial support, focus and financial backing to the targeted movement. In the tea party movement's case, it was the religious Republicans and Koch Brothers. In this case, it's the Public Sector Unions (the organizations as quasi-human entities, not the members themselves) and Ultra Rich liberals who pretend to care, but frankly do not serve liberators and freedom seekers but rather the interests of those who run the Public Sector Unions and the Democratic Party. Democrat, Republican, these parties are all part of the same corporate ruling system. Case in point: http://www.debates.org/

3-The media will cover the movement only after this infiltration succeeds. Once the infiltration is completed the MSM will manufacture public media antipathy towards the movement by using selective focus on the movement's most repulsive elements or infiltrators on the corporate Conservative media side, while the corporate Liberal media will create a more sympathetic tragic hero image -- this is the flip side of the tea party, but same media manipulation tactics. I go into greater detail on this tactic here.

4- Someone in the Democratic Party will feign sympathy for the movement and falsely "non-partisan" entities provide tons of funding and unwanted organization, just as was done with the tea party movement by Republicans. Once people assume that the government operatives are their friends, the government will hijack the movement and the threat of your movement will be neutralized.

If this new Occupy Wall Street movement is to survive, here's what needs to be done.

1- Loudly denounce violence and disavow the violent rabblerousers of the movement. They do not help the cause.

2- Be image conscious. Present your best face and call out those who act like fools within the movement. People are more likely to pay attention to you in your Sunday dress and bringing homemade food, than when you are drinking a bottle of Snapple and chomping on Big Macs while you are looking like a slacker rich hipster/unwashed hippie stereotype.

3- Accept that you've already been infiltrated by the government, and work hard to say, and state what your movement is and is not about. "No, this isn't about unions or Liberals, conservatives or bored spoiled brats. This is about 99% of our population being exploited and manipulated for the sake of profit." "No we will not resort to violence." "Yes, all we want is for for the end of government collusion with corporate entities that are illegitimately recognized as people." And, so forth...

4- Don't forget who you are as the illusions are thrown at you. Corporatists are masters of illusions. That's the most powerful weapon they have. That's how they sell products you don't need and convince you to justify accepting atrocities for the sake of products Don't fall for it. Otherwise, your cause will be lost. Be wary of large donations from special interest groups or non-profit corporations that were not involved this movement from the inception. Special interests groups are not your allies. Non-profit corporations are still corporations, and unfortunately, too many of them care more about donations than doing the right thing. Killing a movement with kindness is easy.

5- Remain independent and focused. If you can, pick a face to represent your movement. Rosa Parks wasn't just a random lady in a bus -- She was chosen. You too can use the power of illusion against those who oppose you.

I wish your movement better luck than we had with the tea party movement before it got hijacked by the theocrats and corporatists. We used to be non-partisan too. We were the older version of you. But, I believe that as the media apparatchik and infiltrators start to twist your cause, you will understand the frustration us early adopter tea partiers felt and that we were not your enemy after all. A fascist oligarchy on the verge of winning is our common enemy. This should be your focus. Don't be dazzled by the illusion as we were. For the sake of our future, know who you are.

Thank you for reading. I would love to read your ideas on the subject. Correct me where I am wrong. Explain what is going right. This is ultimately your fight.

EDITS: To understand how movements get hijacked, check out this fantastic video that JamesCarlin shared.

If my essay seems too conspiratorial for your tastes, try Hibernator's excellent and much less paranoid sounding summary below:

"Someone starts a movement. It starts small, and there's a lot going on in the world, so the mainstream media gives it minimal coverage. Today's mainstream media is also understaffed, so they don't investigate and they wait for someone else to slap a label on it.

Eventually a sound byte X pops up above the noise and the mainstream media uses this to engage viewers and define the movement. This defining characteristic X spreads like a meme.

People in power now notice what's going on, and think to themselves "Hmm, this new movement is defined by X, and that's almost in line with my goals, so maybe I can use them to further my ends."

But people in power are all labelled as Democrats or Republicans, so now the media applies the polarizing filter of American politics to associate movement X with one of the parties.

The original movement has now been labelled X, and associated with a political party, and none of this happened because of any 'government conspiracy.' It just happened because that's what you get as output when you plug something new into the American political system."

In response, WeAreTheOther99.com interviewed a few Marine vets at Zuccotti Park.

The Marines stated why they had come to protest and in direct response to Hannity's statement: One said "F**k Off" and the other replied: "That's the biggest load of * I've ever heard"
