Indie actor Mark Ruffalo says he found himself on the Pennsylvania Homeland Security office's terror watch list for organizing screening of an oil-drilling documentary.

According to the World Entertainment News Network, Ruffalo -- who has starred in such films as The Kids Are All Right, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Zodiac -- told GQ magazine he found it "pretty f--cking funny" that he would be suspected of terrorism for raising the alarm about what many say is an environmentally harmful way of drilling for oil and gas.

Ruffalo has been promoting GasLand, a documentary that focuses on hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking." It's a process of drilling for oil and gas that involves pumping large amounts of water into a well to crack the rock under the ground, releasing the oil or gas.

FBI targeting political activists as terrorists

Anti-terrorism resources are being used to target environmentalists, peace, animal and political activists who hold different views than the government.
It was recently revealed that a counter-terrorism firm spied on individuals who attended film screenings of the documentary Gasland. The film focuses on the practice of natural gas fracking and what impact it has on the environment and in the communities where it is used.
The FBI and other government agencies are cracking down on those who are not willing to say in line with the status quo.
In Pennsylvania, activists have faced terrorism charges for writing slogans in chalk on sidewalks. In California, 27 individuals are set to go on trial stemming for protest actions Elsewhere 23 anti-war, pro-labor and international solidarity activists may face a grand jury on trumped up charged. The FBI boasts 164,000 suspicious activity reports that are made up of activists who do not follow the governments view on matters.
The US government is using taxpayer money to squash the competition as opposed to protecting the American people from true terrorist threats, all while stomping on freedom of speech rights.
Carlos Montes, a co-founder of the Brown Berets Chicano Movement explained there is a marked rise of the US government using tools at their disposal designed to fight terrorism to impose oppression on political activists.
“The protest movements are directly exposing and challenging the lines that the US government puts out,” he said, yet law enforcement authorities continue to crack down without just cause. “It’s a war against dissent.”
The government is working to stop the movement which is merely seeking to exercise its right to free speech and the right to protest
“They’re trying to stop us but we’re not going to let them do it,” Montes added.

Drilling did cause ‘earthquake’

Published on Saturday 15 October 2011 07:44

CONTROVERSIAL gas drilling DID cause Fylde coast earthquakes.

And now energy chiefs have sent a stark warning to shale gas company Cuadrilla Resources – stop the tremors or we will shut you down.

It comes as the company this week held urgent talks with the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to consider a report into the risk of earthquakes associated with fracking – the process used to extract shale gas from deep beneath the Fylde coast.

The meetings followed the British Geological Survey’s (BGS) conclusion two recent earth tremors felt nearby were most likely to have been caused by fracking.

The BGS said the correlations between the earthquakes and the time of fracking operations and the proximity of the quakes to the site, all pointed towards the earthquakes being a result of the fracking process.

Seismologist Brian Baptie added: “These are still very small earthquakes, even by UK standards and won’t cause any damage, if fracking continued I couldn’t see the tremors getting much bigger.

“But it is obviously a concern for local residents and I’m sure the report commissioned by Cuadrilla will be greeted with interest.”

Cuadrilla has came under fire from activists for its drilling technique, which involves pumping high volumes of water and sand into drill holes to crack the rocks so gas can be extracted

The company commissioned a report following the tremors earlier this year.

Soon after the quakes were feltthe firm halted the fracking process after admitting the low magnitude tremors felt in Poulton in April and May, close to Cuadrilla’s Singleton site could be linked to them.

And experts said Cuadrilla’s operations could be shut down permanently if proposed methods to reduce the risk of earthquakes fail.

Toni Harvey, a senior geoscientist at the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) said: “If we allow fracking to continue and their mitigation didn’t work, then we would shut them down again, without a doubt.

“There is a lot of concern in the media and from ministers about public safety.”

“DECC has requested a detailed report from Cuadrilla, which we understand they are close to finalising. When the report is received, it will be carefully considered, with input from British Geological Survey and other experts.

“We will also be discussing the report with other regulators before any decision is made on resuming hydraulic fracturing operations for shale gas.”

Last month Cuadrilla, the first company to explore for shale gas in the UK, announced the Fylde coast holds a total potential resource of 200 trillion cubic feet of gas.

It estimated the discovery – between Blackpool and Southport –could be worth £6bn to the UK economy and create 1,700 jobs locally.

However protesters are campaigning to stop the drilling and anti-fracking group, Frack Off - London, rallied outside the DECC headquarters on Thursday as Cuadrilla presented their study.

And the chairman of the Blackpool and Fylde Green Party Philip Mitchell today called on the Government to halt all UK hydraulic fracturing industry activity until there had been a thorough and robust evaluation of the risks related to future activity.

He said: “Any suggestion of an acceptable level of earthquakes caused by fracking should be rejected.

“The Government must realise it must stop treating our communities like guinea pigs and accept these techniques carry unacceptable risks to the British public.

“Ministers must stop the industry activity at least until parliament and the public can be guided by a full and robust appraisal of the total risk to the themselves and to the environment.”

Mark Miller, CEO of Cuadrilla Resources, said: “We met with officials from DECC and their technical advisors and had a useful, in-depth working session on the initial findings of the report.

“There is some considerable work still to do and we absolutely share with DECC the need to have the complex issues involved addressed dealt with satisfactorily.”

The bit at the end of the clip of the guy lighting gases comng from his water tap is pretty scary. My plumber showed me a similar thing from my radiators when he bled the air from them. Your rads can corrode from the inside producing hydrogen gas.

Who changed the title? Frack-ing is Industry term for Hydraulic Fracturing almost like piledriving?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydraulic_fracturing

Quote:
Purpose

The technique of hydraulic fracturing is used to increase or restore the rate at which fluids, such as oil or water, or natural gas can be produced from subterranean natural reservoirs, including unconventional reservoirs such as shale rock or coal beds. Hydraulic fracturing enables the production of natural gas and oil from rock formations deep below the earth's surface (generally 5,000-20,000 feet or 1,500-6,100 m). At such depth, there may not be sufficient porosity and permeability to allow natural gas and oil to flow from the rock into the wellbore at economic rates. Thus, creating conductive fractures in the rock is essential to extract gas from shale reservoirs because of the extremely low natural permeability of shale, which is measured in the microdarcy to nanodarcy range.[5] Fractures provide a conductive path connecting a larger area of the reservoir to the well, thereby increasing the area from which natural gas and liquids can be recovered from the targeted formation.
While the main industrial use of hydraulic fracturing is in stimulating production from oil and gas wells,[6][7][8] hydraulic fracturing is also applied to:
Stimulating groundwater wells[9]
Preconditioning rock for caving or inducing rock to cave in mining[10]
As a means of enhancing waste remediation processes, usually hydrocarbon waste or spills[11]
Dispose of waste by injection into deep rock formations
As a method to measure the stress in the earth
For heat extraction to produce electricity in an Enhanced Geothermal System [12]

That is why Inhibitor is added to slow down the decay, trouble with steel I guess, Copper/Brass also decay over time, Gold Radiators anyone? Very Happy

Actually, in the Reservoir Stimulation business, the technique used to be known (and written) as a 'Frac Job'. The 'k' is a much more recent journalistic addition!

Australian protesters stop 'Fracking' in their area:

http://frack-off.org.uk/australia-residents-beat-off-scottish-gas-dril lers/

'After a combative stand off between residents of Fullerton Cove, Australia and gas company Dart Energy, the company has been forced to stop drilling. Dart – which also recently applied for planning permission to drill 22 new wells in Airth, Scotland, lost an injunction to drill for Coal Bed Methane until a full legal challenge has been heard. Residents recently held a nine-day blockade against the Dart site, ending in a forcible eviction by police...'

Green lobby isolated as shale kicks on

Anti-fracking lobby isolated?

Should we? Shouldn’t we? While Europe dithers over whether the blatant economic success of the US shale gas ‘miracle’ will translate to these shores, the UK Government has been slightly more pro-shale active. But, while the threat of (liberal democrat-instituted) over-regulation still casts a shadow, the pro-shale (mostly conservative) wing of government looks set for a stratospheric boost.

For the second time in the last couple of months, the Times reports industry sources as claiming the upcoming British Geological Survey’s (BGS) official assessment of UK shale reserves, due next month, will be “increased dramatically”. If the report is to be believed, the figures being touted for domestic reserves could well prove to be a dazzling “200 times greater than experts previously believed”.

The Times suggests that the BGS’s previous estimate of 5.3 trillion cubic feet is likely to be increased to a huge 1,300 to 1,700 trillion cubic feet. And that would be “enough shale gas to heat every home in Britain for 1,500 years.”

If the figures are borne out when the report is finally published in a few weeks time, it would have major ramifications for the UK economy, cheaper gas prices – including across Europe whether European states join the shale revolution or not – and, somewhat negatively, for investment in the green energy industry.

The UK’s biggest gas supplier BG’s (formerly British Gas) Centrica has already pulled out of green energy commitments in America to invest directly in the US shale gas revolution. But at the recent World Energy Conference in Davos, Centrica CEO Sam Laidlaw was doing his best to play down the potential of UK shale gas.

Politics? Because at the same time, Cuadrilla, long vilified for claiming it has around 200 trillion cubic feet of shale gas in its section of the Bowland Shale Group in north-western England, was being courted by some of the industry big boys, including Shell, Statoil and Exxon-Mobil – and Centrica’s parent company BG. According to one source, Cuadrilla are already “dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s on an agreement with an energy major.”

So where does the UK shale gas prospect stand exactly in relation to, say, what is happening in the US? Well that’s where it ought to get really exciting for the UK generally.

In the big Marcellus and Barnett shale plays in the United States the formations are generally about 300 feet thick. In places, the UK shale formation is 6,000 feet thick. Speculation in the industry generally suggests that the overall size of the Bowland Shale alone could be as high as 1,000 trillion cubic feet.

Cuadrilla, as yet the only company with a licensed area for drilling, only covers one third to one quarter of it. Of course, much depends on flow rates which require more drilling to clarify the prospective return. But even if just a ten percent recovery rate was achievable from the Bowland Shale (significantly above 20 percent is much more likely) that would yield 20 trillion cubic feet.

The entire UK consumption rate in 2011 was just 2.8 trillion cubic feet. No wonder industry anticipation is running high.

And the potential scale of the UK’s “vast” shale gas resources is confirmed from a second source. Gordon Pickering’s US firm Navigant Consulting was commissioned by the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to assess the country’s shale gas potential. Though Pickering refused to give the exact figure that’s in his DECC report, he did publicly confirm that not only is the UK’s shale gas potential significant – it’s scale has the capacity to put European gas prices generally into a steep decline.

All in all, the pressure to resume frack drilling in the UK is about to become intense. And, in the face of the UK stealing a serious lead on its European competitors, opposition to shale development in European capitals could well soon crumble.

The signs are already there, as the green lobby voices find themselves increasingly isolated. Chevron has been busy accruing license agreements to drill across much of the east of Europe. At the end of January the Romanian Government performed a u-turn and granted exploration licences in the east of the country.

In December Germany’s Parliament voted down a Green party motion to put a France-style outright ban on fracking. Though some German ministers still appear reluctant to green-light fracking there is also increasing evidence that a raft of Germany’s coalition ministers now favour fast-tracking development. Even French opposition to developing its own potentially enormous shale gas reserves could be about to end.

Right now the last thing Brussels politicians, lately buffeted by noises about a UK exit from Europe, want to hear is that the development of the UK’s massive reserves could give its ‘errant’ member state a major continent-wide lead that could see it receiving a significant shot in the economic arm from fossil fuel development.

After all, what is Europe’s alternative? European energy policy is caught between a rock (reliance on Russian imports) and a hard place (growing Arab and Islamic unrest from North Africa’s energy suppliers – from where the EU had hoped to be freed of its Russian dependency).

As UK shale gas evangelist Nick Grealy points out, “Europe may yet wake up to the reality that if they want energy, to depend on Russia, North Africa, the Middle East members or even US LNG imports when a large part of the solution to energy security is under both our noses and our feet, is not only economically unwise and morally dubious but, simply, as the greens would put it “unsustainable energy”.

But next month’s BGS report and the probable publication of stratospheric figures for gas ‘gold’ beneath Britain’s ‘green and pleasant land’ it is likely to contain, is highly likely to prove the accelerant that finally ignites a ‘dash for shale gas’ on this side of the Atlantic.

A ‘dash’ that, by the way, will finally see the anti-intellectual ‘no fracking’ claims of the green lobbies trampled in the rush.

Here's an anti-fracking online petition:

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/244/105/870/end-massive-tax-breaks-for- fracking-in-the-uk/

'Target: George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer, UK
Sponsored by: Judith B.

The government that boasted it would be “greenest government ever” has an unimpressive record of providing generous tax breaks to the fossil fuel industry while cutting investment in solar and wind. George Osborne’s latest announcement is the most outrageous yet.

The Chancellor has revealed that shale gas production will receive a mammoth tax cut. It will now be set a tax level of 30%, less than half that of oil production. In fact, this is the most generous tax rate for fracking anywhere in the world.

Why, exactly, a supposedly economically viable industry would need such a monstrous sweetener has not been answered.

Giving the fossil fuel industry, in old or new guises, outrageous incentives is not in the least green. Tell Mr Osborne to stop propping up this deadly industry and focus on genuine renewables.

Doesn't seem to be anything on the Forum yet about the Balcombe, Sussex 'Fracking' drilling operation, and the Anti-Fracking Camp and demos; Ian Crane has been there, and is encouraging others to go.

There is an ongoing camp/demo at Balcombe over the initial drilling for fracking operations.

Though two arrests have been made, it looks pretty peaceful on the whole.
They welcome newcomers from anywhere in the country to join them.

Here's an updating site:

Tony this is kind of on subject? To what was in Ian's video in part and its by "CommunityPressGroup"

Has some info about Nuremberg too, which was also mentioned in Ian's video. But the police man said "Nuremberg! that's a bit......" then went on to say he has trust in the system.

Medical trials without the subjects consent were made illegal at/after the Nuremberg treaty? And tetra is a medical trial until 2018? Could well be worth the research.

Apologies if you decide to move it to a more appropriate thread.

Worth burning above video and giving it to police at demos.

The Barrie Trower video is relevant to the thread, as ex-Police Sergeant Ray Savage actually is filmed at Balcombe on the same subject at Balcombe here:

'Dr.' Mengele not only got away, he was pivotal to the CIA/DIA fledgling Mind Control program; his was renamed 'Dr. Green', and continued his fiendish 'work' on children kidnapped from the streets of the US.

Cuadrilla Resources is the firm behind fracking – which is the process of injecting liquid into the ground at high pressure to release gas from shale rock –on the Fylde coast.
It has sites in Weeton, Westby and Singleton.
In 2011, a tremor of magnitude 2.3 hit the Fylde coast on April 1, followed by a second of magnitude 1.4 on May 27. They were later linked to Cuadrilla’s drilling at Preese Hall, Lancashire, by the BGS.

Fracking may leave fault lines vulnerable to earthquakes
Pumping water underground to extract gas and oil can cause earthquakes by weaken fault lines in the Earth’s crust, according to new research.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/energy/10174188/Fracking-may-leave-fa ult-lines-vulnerable-to-earthquakes.html
By Richard Gray, Science Correspondent - 7:00PM BST 11 Jul 2013
Scientists claim to have found evidence that even if earthquakes to not occur directly after water is injected underground, the damage they do to fault line can lead to tremors being triggered by the shockwaves from large earthquakes on the other side of the world.
The practice of injecting water underground is commonly used to by the oil industry and most recently to extract gas and oil from shale reserves in a process called hydraulic fracturing, or fracking.
Critics of the fracking industry have consistently warned that the technique can cause an increase in earthquakes although the evidence is often contradictory.
In 2011 fracking in the UK was suspended after a series of tremors in Blackpool were thought to have been caused by shale gas exploration there.
The monotorium was lifted in December 2012 after research concluded that most tremors cause no more seismic activity than someone jumping off a ladder.
However, new findings by geologists at Columbia University in the US have shown that tremors in areas where water has been used to extract oil or gas underground tend to occur around the same time as major earthquakes in other parts of the world.
They say the fluids pumped into wells can weaken fault lines and leave them vulnerable to seismic waves passing from somewhere else.
“The fluids are driving the faults to their tipping point,” said Dr Nicholas van der Elst, a researcher at Columba University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.
“The remote triggering by big earthquakes is an indication the area is critically stressed."
Earthquakes are known to be triggered elsewhere in the world by large quakes, but until now have largely been found to be a natural phenomenon.
The new research, which is published in the journal Science, have now linked minor tremors to faults that have been weakened by human activities.
The oil industry pumps wastewater into deep wells to increase pressure in the reservoir and aid the recovery of oil.
More recently hydraulic fracturing, which uses high pressured jets of water to fracture rocks underground, is being used to extract oil and gas from shale reserves.
In the US, the boom in shale gas has resulted in gas prices falling dramatically.
According to the British Geological Survey there is up to 1,300 trillion cubic feet of shale gas trapped in the rocks beneath Lancashire and Yorkshire – enough to serve the UK for at least 40 years.
Last month the UK government announced new measures to help allow these gas reserves to be exploited, including offering tax breaks and fast tracked permits.
Yesterday Lord Lawson, the former Chancellor of the Exchequer, called for an acceleration in efforts to extract gas and oil from shale reserves in the UK.
Earlier this month energy firm Cuadrilla announced that it plans to drill and frack six new wells with partners Centrica.
In April and May 2011 there were a series of earthquakes of magnitude 2.3 near Blackpool that occurred during fracking to explore a shale gas reservoir.
This resulted in a temporary moratorium on exploratory fracking in the UK, but this was then lifted in December 2012.
However, companies are now required to conduct a review of any fault lines in the area and produce a plan showing any seismic risks when applying for a permit.
They are also required to monitor during and after fracking, halting any activity if seismic activity becomes too great.
The new research, however, will strengthen the concerns of those opposed to the industry as they suggest tremors can occur long after water has been injected into the ground by weakening the fault lines.
By examining the catalogue of past earthquake recordings, the scientists found increased stress in faults near to where fracking and wastewater injection had been used.
They found that tremors at these sites seemed to be triggered by major earthquakes such as the one in Maule, Chile in 2010 and the magnitude 9.1 Tohoku earthquake in Japan in 2011.
They found one 4.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred just 16 hours in Prague, Oklahoma, after the Maule earthquake. There was also a swarm of earthquakes in Trinidad, Colorado, close to wells where wastewater had been used to extract methane gas from coal beds.
However, William Ellsworth, from the Earthquake Science Center at the US geological Survey, said: “Earthquakes induced during hydraulic fracturing have lower risk because of their much smaller magnitudes.
“The largest fracking-induced earthquakes have all been below the damage threshold for modern building codes.”
Ken Cronin, chief executive of UK Onshore Operators Group, which represents the shale oil and gas industry in the UK, said: “A number of studies have been done by Royal Society and Academy of Engineering and by Durham University into the minor tremors in the UK and have found the levels of seismicity to be very low.
"The UK has the highest environment regulation in the world.
"The UK Government announced pre-monitoring and a traffic light system of continuous monitoring that ensures any drilling is halted if seismic activity reaches 0.5 on the Richter scale above the background seismic activity.”

Balcombe Anti-Fracking asking for more folks to go down in support:
http://greatgasgala.org.uk/news/

'Balcombe Community Protection Camp Needs Support

Today (Mon 9th Sept) saw West Sussex County Council (WSCC) threatening to take action to evict the Community Protection Camp in Balcombe. While legally they should have to go to court to do this (and their public statement suggests that is their intention) it is likely these developments will be accompanied by a general increase in pressure on the camp, from the police etc. Larger numbers of people at the camp over the next few days would be very useful in ensuring that the police/council stick to their own rules. Please consider coming down to support the camp if you can....'

I was outside the High Courts in the Strand, with my protest banner, when I learnt that the Council case to ban the Balcombe Anti-Fracking Camp was a disaster - for Cuadrilla & the 'Council'.
The case was adjourned till 8th October, by which time Cuadrilla have to have stopped operations.
So, the Camp continues, and Cuadrilla share holders might be wise to dump them, and go for something like 'Depleted Uranium Ltd' or 'Fukushima Nuclear' shares.

!Bon Chance!
