excerpt from: Theresa May: We will never know how many people got through without proper checks
Theresa May, the Home Secretary, has admitted that the number of people who entered the country without being checked against a Home Office database of terror suspects and illegal immigrants will never be known.
Daily Telegraph, 7 November 2011
Quote: | Mrs May said she had launched three inquiries in to what happened at the force, as she told MPs senior staff had extended a pilot scheme she had authorised in April designed to focus checks on high-risk passengers entering the UK.
She told the House of Commons senior officials had "let down" hard-working staff and promised that those found guilty of relaxing checks without authorisation from ministers would be punished.
Mrs May said UK border force head Brodie Clark "authorised the wider relaxation of border controls without ministerial sanction".
Mr Clark has since been suspended amid reports that border guards were told this summer not to bother checking fingerprints and other personal details against a Home Office database of terror suspects and illegal immigrants.
The Home Secretary said in July she agreed the UK Border Agency (UKBA) could "pilot a scheme that would allow Border Force officials to target intelligence-led checks on higher-risk categories of travellers".
Under the pilot scheme, European children, "travelling with their parents or as part of a school group, would be checked against the warnings index - designed to detect terrorists and serious criminals - when assessed by a border force official to be a credible risk", Mrs May said.
"The pilot also allowed, under limited circumstances, border force officials the discretion to judge when to open the biometric chip - which contains a second photograph and no further information - on the passports of EEA nationals.
"Those circumstances were that the measures would always be subject to a risk-based assessment, that they should not be routine, and that the volume of passengers would be such that border security would be stronger with more risk-based checks and fewer mandatory checks than with more mandatory checks on low-risk passengers and fewer risk-based checks for high-risk passengers. |

Given all the technology of x-ray machines metal detectors etc makes you wonder why they don't just have a swipe card system for passports or do checks when tickets are purchased.
Seems a bit hard to swallow this story in its entirety.
1) checks when tickets bought online
2)checks with credit/debit transactions
3)checks at check in
4)checks before boarding
5)checks after landing
Who else wasn't doing their job properly? Are they already lining up scapegoats following a false flagger by "known" terrorists who sneaked in past all the checks.
Of course known terrorists are just going to enter the country through the most surveilled entry points. _________________ JO911B.
