Need to keep reminding us about Pentagon 9/11 planes
Quote: | Rezwan Ferdaus held over Pentagon and Capitol bomb plot
Undercover FBI agents allegedly supplied Ferdaus with a model plane A 26-year-old US citizen has been arrested for plotting to fly explosive-packed, remote controlled planes into the Pentagon and the US Capitol in Washington DC.
Rezwan Ferdaus was also charged with attempting to supply materials to al-Qaeda and aid attacks on US soldiers.
The Northeastern University physics graduate is accused of planning to commit "jihad" since early 2010.
Mr Ferdaus was arrested in Boston after an undercover investigation by the FBI.
Announcing his arrest, the US Department of Justice said FBI agents were in regular contact with Mr Ferdaus in the run-up to his arrest.
Posing as accomplices, they supplied him with C-4 explosives, a remote-controlled plane and arms.
The Pentagon was previously attacked in 2001 when the 9/11 hijackers flew a plane into the building Mr Ferdaus was arrested immediately after putting the newly delivered weapons in a storage container, the FBI said.
However, US Attorney for the District of Massachusetts Carmen Oriz said: "The public was never in danger from the explosives," which were controlled by undercover FBI employees.
If convicted, Mr Ferdaus could face up to 15 years in jail for providing support and resources to a foreign terrorist organization and up to 20 years in prison for attempting to destroy national defence premises. |

BOSTON (AP) — A Massachusetts man was arrested Wednesday and accused of plotting an assault on the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol using remote-controlled aircraft armed with explosives — the latest of several terrorism cases to spring from federal sting operations.
Rezwan Ferdaus was arrested in Framingham after undercover federal agents delivered materials he had allegedly requested, including grenades, six machine guns and what he believed was 24 pounds of C-4 explosive. Federal officials said the public was never in danger from the explosives, which it said were always under control and closely monitored.
Wednesday's arrest was similar to other cases in which reputed would-be terrorists were caught in sting operations that revolved around fictional plots against various targets, such as Dallas skyscapers or a Chicago nightclub. In this case, though, authorities say Ferdaus planned the scheme.
According to a federal affidavit, Ferdaus, 26, of Ashland, became convinced America was evil through jihadi websites and videos, and began planning "jihad" against the U.S. in early 2010. He contacted a federal informant that December and months later, allegedly began meeting to discuss the plot with undercover federal agents he believed were members of al-Qaida.
Ferdaus said he wanted to deal a psychological blow to the "enemies of Allah" by hitting the Pentagon, which he called "head and heart of the snake," according to the affidavit.
"Allah has given us the privilege," he allegedly told the informant. "... He punishes them by our hand. We're the ones."
Ferdaus, a U.S. citizen who graduated from Northeastern University with a bachelor's degree in physics, made a brief initial appearance Wednesday in federal court on charges of attempting to destroy federal buildings and providing support to a foreign terrorist organization, in this case al-Qaida. A detention hearing was scheduled for Monday.
Telephone messages were left at the office of his attorney, Catherine Byrne, and at the address listed for Ferdaus in the affidavit.
Several alleged domestic plots have been thwarted since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, including in Lackawanna, N.Y.; Portland, Ore.; and Virginia.
Terrorism arrests involving federal stings have often been followed by claims of entrapment, but none of the cases brought since Sept. 11 has been thrown out by a court on such grounds.
U.S. Rep. William Keating of Massachusetts, a member of the Homeland Security Committee, said lawmakers have been warned for months of an emerging threat from homegrown extremists. He said al- Qaida is casting a wide net to radicalize individuals or small groups already in the country because of the significant advantages.
"They're already here, so they don't have the hurdles of getting into the country, they know the country better. ... They know how to move around," Keating said. "The testimony we heard, things like this (the Ferdaus arrest) were inevitable."
Ferdaus is accused of planning to use three remote control airplanes measuring about from 60 to 80 inches in length. Ferdaus allegedly planned to pack five pounds of explosives in each plane, while saving some of it to blow up bridges near the Pentagon.
The planes, guided by GPS and capable of speeds greater than 100 mph, would hit the Pentagon and blow the Capitol dome to "smithereens," according to Ferdaus' plan, detailed in the affidavit. Ferdaus then planned a follow-up automatic weapons attack with six people divided into two teams, according to the affidavit.
At one point, according to recorded conversation detailed in the affidavit, Ferdaus told undercover agents that his desire to attack the United States was so strong, "I just can't stop. There is no other choice for me."
According to the affidavit, Ferdaus traveled to Washington in June to do surveillance, and drew up a 15-phase attack plan. He also allegedly rented storage space to work on the planes in Framingham, telling the manager he planned to use the space for music.
Asked at one point about possibly killing women and children, Ferdaus allegedly said all unbelievers of Islam were his enemies.
Prosecutors also accuse Ferdaus of supplying the undercover agents with cellphone devices he said could be used to remotely detonate explosives. When the undercover agents falsely told him the devices had been used to kill three U.S. soldiers in Iraq, he allegedly became visibly excited and said he felt "incredible. ... We're changing the world."
Rezwan is unmarried and has no children, the affidavit said.
He had at least one previous brush with the law. In 2003, The Boston Globe reported that he and two other Ashland High School seniors were accused in a vandalism spree at the school. |
The FBI affidavit alledges that Rezwan Ferdaus created a false identity in the name of Dave Winfield and that he opened a PayPal account in this false name to procure two model Sabre 35 (F-86) remote controlled aircraft and one F-4 Phantom aircraft. Ferdaus explained that he intended to purchase the F-4 Phantom to use to attack the C-building while the two Sabres would be used to attack the Pentagon. _________________ The Medium is the Massage - Marshall McLuhan.

The "aircraft used as weapons by terrorists" meme was an idea that was introduced into the public domain at least, in the Tom Clancy novel, Debt of Honour.
Tom Clancy's work of fiction quickly followed the unbelievably prescient and much redacted, privately circulated DoD report, authored by Dr. Marvin J. Cetron, called Terror 2000: The Future Face of Terror, published on 24.6.1994 in which "planes used as missiles" was predicted, but subsequenty redacted from the declassified version.
Quote: | Dr. Cetron’s 1994 study, Terror 2000: The Future Face of Terror, circulated privately at the Pentagon, predicted virtually the entire course of terrorism in the years since. Specific forecasts included the rise of large-scale terrorist attacks by Muslim extremists, coordinated attacks on widely distant targets, a devastating assault on the World Trade Center, and the deliberate crash of an airplane into the Pentagon.

Terror 2000: The Future Face of Terror. A report compiled in 1994 by a group of futurists and military/intelligence specialists. Inspired by the WTC93 attack the report predicted a 'holy war' of Islamic terrorism, noting that 'Targets such as the World Trade Center not only provide the requisite casualties but, because of their symbolic nature, provide more bang for the buck. In order to maximize their odds for success, terrorists will likely consider multiple, simultaneous operations.' The original version of the report also included the idea that a hijacked plane could be crashed into the White House or the Pentagon, but that idea was dropped from this edition.

On 3.4.1995, TIME magazine published a story called "The Price of Fanaticism" about terrorism, which included this ickle factoid:
Quote: |
The Price of Fanaticism
Now that extremists are willing to use weapons of mass destruction, they have crossed a threshold that experts have watched with dread for two decades
by Bruce W. Nelan
Time
April 3, 1995
...
Three weeks ago, Georgia's Senator Sam Nunn sketched a lurid fantasy: how terrorists might wreck the central government of the U.S. On the night of a State of the Union address, when all the top officials are in the Capitol, Nunn said, a handful of fanatics could crash a radio-controlled drone aircraft into the building, "engulfing it with chemical weapons and causing tremendous death and destruction." This scenario, said Nunn, "is not far-fetched," and the technology is all readily available.
...

Sen. Nunn's action is referenced here back to it's fictional source:
Quote: |
• April 1995 – Senator Sam Nunn outlines an attack on the US Capitol using a radio-controlled airplane (idea taken from Tom Clancey’s book, Debt of Honour).
and again here:
Kurt Epps says:

Ever read Tom Clancy’s “Debt of Honor?” I’m betting this guy and the 9/11 jihadis have.

That's an interesting quote because it also conflates the 9/11 event with the idea of remote control aircraft, so I wonder who Kurt Epps might be.
Tom Clancy's, Debt of Honour, was first published as a paperback on 25.7.1994 and the hardback on 17.8.1994

August 17, 1994: Tom Clancy Bestseller Includes Plane Deliberately Crashed into US Capitol Building
Debt of Honor, by Tom Clancy.Debt of Honor, by Tom Clancy. [Source: HarperCollins]A novel by the military thriller writer Tom Clancy, one of America’s top-selling authors, includes a plotline of a suicide pilot deliberately crashing a commercial jet plane into the US Capitol building in Washington, DC. The story of Debt of Honor is based around a crisis between Japan and the United States. A short, armed conflict between the two nations arises and is won by the US. The book ends with a Japanese commercial airline pilot deliberately crashing a Boeing 747 into the US Capitol building during a joint session of Congress. The president is killed, along with most of the Senate, House, Supreme Court, and others. [New York Times, 10/2/1994; Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 8/13/1996; Inter Press Service, 9/15/2001; Newsday, 5/20/2002] Clancy later describes to the BBC how he’d gone about writing this book: “I didn’t write Debt of Honor without first discussing it with an Air Force officer. And so I ran this idea past him and all of a sudden this guy’s eyeballing me rather closely and I said come on general, I know you must have looked at this before, you’ve got to have a plan for it. And the guy goes, ‘Mr. Clancy, to the best of my knowledge, if we had a plan to deal with this, it would be secret, I wouldn’t be able to talk to you about it, but to the best of my knowledge we’ve never looked at this possibility before.’” [BBC, 3/24/2002] Debt of Honor makes number one on the New York Times bestseller list. [Washington Post, 10/6/1994] Following the 9/11 attacks, there will be considerable interest in it, particularly because the Capitol building is considered to have been a likely intended target of Flight 93. The idea for this FBI entrapment has clearly been sourced by real life agents like the fictional Joe Turner, played by Robert Redford in the film "3 Days of the Condor".
Quote: | Old School Reviews - 3 Days of the Condor
Robert Redford plays Joe Turner (code name Condor), a bookish researcher for the C.I.A. who reads spy novels and feeds creative scenarios into the computer database at a New York City sub office.
Wikipedia - 3 Days of the Condor
Joe Turner (Robert Redford) is a CIA employee (Condor is his code name) who works in a clandestine office in New York City. He reads books, newspapers, and magazines from around the world, looking for hidden meanings and new ideas. As part of his duties, Turner files a report to CIA headquarters on a low-quality thriller novel his office has been reading, pointing out strange plot elements therein, and the unusual assortment of languages into which the book has been translated. |
From the 777 date patterns that emerge, I think it is entirely safe to now assume that this so called plot is pure fiction.
(See http://www.911forum.org.uk/board/viewtopic.php?p=159588#159588)
What is very interesting is that 9/11 carries the same incriminating 777 relationship to the book's publication.
Is someone trying to tell us that the 9/11 aircraft were also remote controlled ? _________________ The Medium is the Massage - Marshall McLuhan.

Quote: | The idea of using model planes and similar devices in terror attacks is unusual but not unprecedented.
Christopher Paul, a Columbus Ohio resident pleaded guilty in 2008 to planning terrorist attacks in the United States and Europe. According to the indictment in that case, Paul conducted research from 2006 on a variety of remote-controlled models, including a boat and a 5-foot long helicopter. Paul was accused of joining al Qaeda in the early 1990s.
Ferdaus allegedly planned to fill three remote controlled aircraft - which he referred to as "small drone airplanes" - with explosives, launch them from the east Potomac park, and guide them by GPS into their targets.
Such advances, combined with precise mapping services like Google Earth, may also provide terrorist operatives with opportunities to strike targets several miles away. However, remote detonation of C4, a very stable explosive insensitive to most physical shocks, carried on a model plane would be a challenge.
As long ago as 2007, Senator Charles Schumer D-New York said of model planes: "They present a real danger. The difficulty is figuring out how to regulate them."
Rep. John Mica R -Florida has also expressed concern in the past, saying in 2006: "They can carry explosives...even of more concern would be carrying small amounts of chemical or biological material."
...
In 2006, a Maryland teacher, Ali Asad Chandia, was convicted of trying to acquire an electronic automatic pilot system for a model aircraft on behalf of the Pakistani terror group Lashkar e Tayiba. The system contains a stability and control computer that can be programmed to fly a plane with a 10-12 foot wingspan using GPS co-ordinates and can be programmed to turn a video camera on and off when the plane reaches certain locations.

Born March 1, 1964
Christopher Paul is an American convert to Islam and member of al Qaeda, who has pled guilty to acts of terrorism. He is currently serving a 15 year prison term arising from those charges.
Born Paul Kenyatta Laws, he changed his name to Abdulmalek Kenyatta in 1989, but then to Christopher Paul in 1994.[1] He pled guilty to planning terrorist attacks in a plea agreement that calls for a 20-year prison term. He had been indicted on April 12, 2007 on the following charges: conspiring to support terrorists, conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction and providing support to terrorists. He was charged with planning to set off bombs in Europe and the United States.
He received training from al-Qaeda in the early 1990s in Pakistan and Afghanistan.[1] He is reported to have stayed in the Beit ur Salam guesthouse, a guest house reserved exclusively for graduates of Al Qaeda training camps. Then in 1999 he went to Germany to train terrorists planning to attack Americans at overseas resorts. He was also alleged, in August 2002, to have met two other men in a suburban Columbus coffee house where they discussed terrorist attacks. The other two men were convicted of separate acts: Nuradin Abdi for a plot to blow up an Ohio shopping mall, and Iyman Faris for a plot to destroy the Brooklyn Bridge.[2]
Paul is an American citizen, resident of Columbus, Ohio. |

The other case referenced above in a report on Rewan Ferdaus is that of Ali Asad Chandia - see here http://aliasad.org/ arrested on 8.5.3 in Maryland, convicted on 6.6.6 and sentenced on 25.8.6. (Not as Wiki has it)
The case seems to be centred around paintballing, yet again, and has been tacked onto the, so called, Virginia Jihad Network.
Quote: | Teacher at College Park school sentenced for aiding terrorists
Fate of former Al-Huda instructor rattles school
Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006
by Dennis Carter, Staff Writer
Days after a former teacher at College Park’s Al-Huda school was sentenced for providing material support to a Pakistani terrorist group, one-time colleagues said the case was just one of many unfairly targeting Muslims throughout the world.
Ali Asad Chandia, 29, a resident of College Park who taught at Al-Huda for four years, was sentenced Friday for aiding Lashkar-e-Taiba, an anti-Indian government organization.
Chandia was charged with assisting Lashkar-e-Taiba member Mohammed Ajmal Khan, who is serving a 9-year prison sentence in Britain for serving as a military procurement official for the group. Prosecutors sought a sentence of 30 years to life for Chandia, but U.S. District Judge Claude M. Hilton gave the Pakistani-born teacher 15 years.
Minhaj Hason, a spokesperson for Dar-Us-Salaam, the umbrella organization for Al-Huda, said that while he was disappointed by the outcome, he was not surprised.
‘‘From our perspective as a community ... we’re basically feeling besieged by overzealous prosecution,” Hason said, adding Chandia was ‘‘one of our best teachers” in the boys section of the Muslim school. ‘‘This is just one in a huge slew of cases like this. We feel the juries are making their decisions based on paranoia.”
Hason, one of more than a dozen family and friends present at the Aug. 25 sentencing, said Chandia has been missed at Al-Huda since FBI agents searched Chandia’s house in May 2003, finding material such as audio tapes and a CD-ROM.
The findings ‘‘manifested his commitment to commit violent jihad,” according to a statement released by US Attorney Chuck Rosenberg. Chandia was also convicted of providing ‘‘safe harbor” for Khan when he visited the United States in 2002 and 2003.
Chandia allowed Khan to use his home computer to buy unmanned aerial vehicles, night-vision equipment, wireless video cameras and $17,000 of Kevlar anti-ballistic material, prosecutors said.
‘‘[Chandia] was very well respected by his peers and students’ parents, and that’s why you saw a lot of support in the courtroom,” Hason said.
Hason said he was sad to know Chandia, who has a 2-year-old son and a 6-year-old stepdaughter, would miss the rest of his children’s school years.
‘‘I think everyone was relieved he didn’t get 30 years to life, but a year away from your family is a year away from your family. [Chandia] has a very young child he won’t see grow up.”
Citing Chandia’s counseling efforts for troubled local youths, Hason said the College Park community lost a dedicated public servant for the next 15 years.
‘‘He was always a contributing member to the general public,” he said.
Chandia moved to Maryland in 1994, attending Watkins Mill High School in Gaithersburg and graduating from the University of Maryland University College in 1999, according to the Ali Asad Support Committee, which established a Web site for Chandia’s defense. Before working at Al-Huda, Chandia taught Arabic at Al-Salit Institute in College Park.
In a statement released shortly after the sentencing, Rosenberg said, ‘‘Terrorist organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba rely on a network of individuals to carry out their deadly operations. Ali Asad Chandia was a member of that network for Lashkar-e-Taiba, and he will now spend a very long period of time in prison for providing material support in furtherance of its violent agenda.”

Mo Ajmal Khan was arrested in Coventry on 1.3.2005
He was the chap that the esteemed author, Ron Suskind got confused with Mo Siddique Khan, the alleged leader of the alleged suicide bombers on London 7/7, in his book:
Quote: | Ron Suskind, author of the One Percent Doctrine, claims that US security officials investigated Khan when he travelled to America that year. They were so concerned about his associations that in 2003 they put him on the “No Fly” list of people banned from entering the country.
Last week senior British security officials and anti-terrorist police dismissed the claims. They believe Khan has been confused with another man, Mohammed Ajmal Khan, who has been jailed in the UK for terrorist offences.
