Sorry for very late notice; the event is due to High Court ruling yesterday; I got the email yesterday, but have only just checked my email ten minutes ago.
EMERGENCY VIGIL FOR TALHA AHSAN, BABAR AHMAD - STOP THE EXTRADITIONS
Saturday 6th October 2012
1:00pm until 3:00pm
Outside St Martins in the Field Church, Trafalgar Square
Nearest Tube: Charing Cross
How to Find it: http://www.smitf.org/page/aboutus/aboutus.html
Show them where the "public interest" really lies!
Show your solidarity with Talha Ahsan, Babar Ahmad and your anger at the
extraditions in this silent vigil in the heart of the city of London. Both
will be extradited immediately to pre-trial solitary confinement in the US.
Read the following article from the STW site:
http://stopwar.org.uk/index.php/usa-war-on-terror/1931-read-this-and-k now-why-the-decision-to-extradite-babar-ahmad-and-talha-ahsan-is-an-ou trage
Please bring flags and slogans.
“This is a national emergency human rights event. Along with British
independent sovereignty, the most elementary civil rights are being destroyed
with this law: Habeas Corpus, the presumption of innocence until proven
guilty, access to family, and above all, the very first duty of government to
protect it’s own citizens. Talha Ahsan and Babar Ahmad, already detained for
years without charge, trial or prima-facie evidence, may be extradited to pre-
trial solitary confinement in the USA imminently.” (Hamja Ahsan, Talha's
younger brother)
“That Talha has been imprisoned for years without trial in my country shames
me as a UK citizen... That my government would give Talha no assistance in a
time of absolute need and would, in fact, help engineer his distress is
another indication of its utterly reckless, unsustainable and inhuman stance
on human rights.” (Novelist, A L Kennedy)
“This law needs to change. People of all races, cultures, classes and
religions need to stand up and say 'No' to this.” (Jeff Mirza, Comedian)
Please do all yu can to come to this protest and the naming of the dead
ceremony on Sunday, to mark the anniversary of the Afghan war and remember
those who have needlessly die. The public want the war to end; we as the
public need to show this on the streets.
In peace
