Sir Walter Besant, a freemason, a founder of Quatuor Coronati Lodge No. 2076, was also at the Palestine Exploration Fund, 1 Adam St, for 18 years. (There is a plaque for him at Victoria Embankment). He writes a piece 'The Strand District' and describes it as a 'street of palaces'.
Quote: | This important street might be considered.......as a street of palaces—and in this respect not to be surpassed by any street in medieval Europe, not even Venice...... |
From the 'Pocket history of Freemasonry':

Quote: | the new Freemasons' Hall and Masonic Headquarters in Great Queen Street, which has many Masonic traditions, although some brethren wanted to see it situated in the Adelphi, which has none. |
William Wilberforce resides at Adelphi Terrace for 'pastoral instruction'.
Blavatsky's Theosophical Society Publishing House, is in Adelphi. It was at Adelphi Terrace that her book 'The Secret Doctrine' was published, which inspired Hitler.
F J Rebman, publisher and translator, is at 11 Adam St, a freemason.
The Savage Club, a masonic club, began at Adelphi.
Grosvenor Lodge (masonic) is in Adelphi Terrace for a few years.
The RSA reports on 'Shibboleth' used to describe internet password protection. My understanding is that all freemasons know the story of shibboleth, 42,000 Ephraimites failed the Shibboleth test and were killed trying to cross the Jordan.
Robert Baxter arranges meetings at the Adelphi to discuss 'the coming of the Lord'.
Robert Adam, architect who designed the Adelphi Terrace, a mason.
Adelphi is the computer program that runs the membership system for all English Freemasonry at Freemasons' Hall.
An interesting painting on Penfold St, in the same street as the curiously named 'King Solomon Academy', sponsored by ARK, head office at 15 Adam St, rather reminds me of Blake's painting, 'Newton'. He studied at Somerset House, in the Strand, under Joshua Reynolds, a fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts, in Adam St.

The Strand in London described as a 'street of palaces' not to be surpassed by any street in Medieval Europe - even by Venice.
