More than a dozen disabled workers were killed today when a huge fire ripped through a workshop as they made Christmas-themed toys. At least 14 people died, either by the flames or smoke inhalation, at the St. Georg workshop in Titisee-Neustadt in the heart of Germany's Black Forest. Eyewitnesses spoke of the workers trapped behind windows screaming for help as smoke and flames billowed behind them. Scroll down for video

There were also reports of an explosion inside the building, possibly gas canisters igniting. At least seven people were taken to hospital for treatment for burns and smoke inhalation. 'The place is filled with choking smoke and there are casualties,' said a police spokesman. 'It is hellish in there.' Dozens of police and fire crews raced to the scene of the blaze.
