Syrian government officials could face war crimes charges in the light of a huge cache of evidence smuggled out of the country showing the "systematic killing" of about 11,000 detainees, according to three eminent international lawyers.

The three, former prosecutors at the criminal tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Sierra Leone, examined thousands of Syrian government photographs and files recording deaths in the custody of regime security forces from March 2011 to last August.

Most of the victims were young men and many corpses were emaciated, bloodstained and bore signs of torture. Some had no eyes; others showed signs of strangulation or electrocution.

The UN and independent human rights groups have documented abuses by both Bashar al-Assad's government and rebels, but experts say this evidence is more detailed and on a far larger scale than anything else that has yet emerged from the 34-month crisis.

The three lawyers interviewed the source, a military policeman who worked secretly with a Syrian opposition group and later defected and fled the country. In three sessions in the last 10 days they found him credible and truthful and his account "most compelling".

They put all evidence under rigorous scrutiny, says their report, which has been obtained by the Guardian and CNN.

The authors are Sir Desmond de Silva QC, former chief prosecutor of the special court for Sierra Leone, Sir Geoffrey Nice QC, the former lead prosecutor of former Yugoslavian president Slobodan Milosevic, and Professor David Crane, who indicted President Charles Taylor of Liberia at the Sierra Leone court.

Here is a copy of an email I have been sending out, and sent out to almost all the joint signatories by large group of members of the Lord's to the Independent article re 'Caesar's' '11,000 victims', as well as previously to MP's and MEP's.

It is not to show how well (or badly!!) I write, but to give any of you useful links in case you write to MP's, MEP's or comment on newspaper comment sites:

'As in any war, the first casualty is the truth. You will know from experience that Governments and media give out false information, either out of ignorance or intent to deceive, as in the 'Incubator Babies Lie' in the first Gulf War, WMD's in the second and '*-Fuelled Mass Rapes' in Libya.

Below are a list of sources of alternative versions of what has been occurring in Syria, and who are really responsible. Of particular importance are the Wesley Clark and Roland Dumas testimonies and the Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity information, though I hope you check it all out. Where there is no direct link, you can access the site by searching for the headline I have included.

I don't believe that any of this information has surfaced in the House of Commons or House of Lords, which is a truly stunning flaw, given how close the UK government was to authorising military strikes against the Assad forces; this setback to those wanting strikes to effect 'Regime Change' in Syria was likely the main thing that put the brakes on President Obama's desire to strike.

In June, the former French Foreign Minister Roland Dumas, created a
scandal, when he admitted, that the war on Syria was planned two years
before "The Arab Spring".
During an appearance on the French TV channel LPC, Dumas made a short
remark, saying that top British officials were preparing the subversion
of Syria with the help of "rebels" two years before the first protests
in 2011, and that he was asked, whether he wanted to participate.
During the TV appearance on LPC, in June, Dumas said:

"I am going to tell you something. I was in England two years before
the violence in Syria on other business. I met with top British
officials, who confessed to me, that they were preparing something in
Syria".

"This was in Britain not in America. Britain was organizing an invasion
of rebels into Syria. They even asked me, although I was no longer
Minister of Foreign Affairs, if I would like to participate. Naturally,
I refused, I said I am French, that does not interest me"

Finding: Staged and Fake Images

A sensational photograph claimed as proof of the attack actually shows
casualties from an Egyptian riot. Other images are obviously staged and
many use victims as props. Still others appear to show children dead,
and then subsequently alive. This is unlawful propaganda of the most
cynical and ghoulish kind.

Finding: Victims May Be Abducted Women and Children from Latakia

Possibly most disturbing, the findings of this initial report establish
multiple connections between the Ghouta massacre and a series of
terrorist massacres and wholesale abductions in several towns in
western Syria during several days in early August 2013. These massacres
occurred in the region surrounding the seaport of Latikia.

CONCLUSION

Ghouta Child Victims Were Abducted by Terrorists from Latakia

After insurgents murdered the men in these communities, they organized
mass abductions of the surviving women and children. ISTEAMS' report
includes evidence that links these abductions to the ensuing chemical
attack(s) that killed mainly women, children, and infants in Ghouta,
east of Damascus, on August 21, 2013. Women and children who were
disappeared after their families were massacred in Latakia appear to be
among the Ghouta victims shown in western propaganda videos.

This preliminary report was prepared by ISTEAMS investigators and
observers of all faiths working inside and outside the Syrian Arab
Republic, as well as independent European and Australian journalists
supporting Syrian sectarian and secular reconciliation (al Mussalaha)
