A priest with a conscience, speaking out against the unsavoury practices of the Church. He has been working for about 15 years to expose crimes committed by the Church, via the Canadian Indian boarding school system, which essentially is a system of genocide.
This is not just about Canadian genocide, it's an international system of genocide. (Reuters) - United Nations child protection experts pushed Vatican delegates on Thursday to reveal the scope of the decades-long sexual abuse of minors by Roman Catholic priests that Pope Francis called "the shame of the Church".
The delegates, answering questions from an international rights panel for the first time since the scandals broke more than two decades ago, denied allegations of a Vatican cover-up and said it had set clear guidelines to protect children from predator priests.
But members of the U.N. Committee on the Rights of the Child, and abuse victims attending the session in Geneva, demanded far more transparency on crimes that have rocked the Church, from the United States to Europe and Australia.
"The best way to prevent abuses is to reveal old ones - openness instead of sweeping offences under the carpet," Kirsten Sandberg, chairwoman of the 18-strong U.N. committee, told the Vatican delegation.

The same Cardinal Gerald Lacroix is a member of the notorious St. Pius X Society (SSPX) an extreme right wing catholic cult closely tied to the Ndrangheta crime syndicate and neo Nazis connected to rogue catholic Archbishop Bernard Fellay. The present Pope Francis, Jorge Bergoglio, is in negotiations with Fellay to have his SSPX cult readmitted into the roman catholic church.

'An Italian priest has been suspended from his parish after defending paedophilia on live television and attempting to blame victims for "seeking affection". Don Gino Flaim, of the San Giuseppe and Pio X parish in the northern Italian town of Trento, claimed on air that he "understands paedophilia" whereas "I'm not sure about homosexuality".
"Unfortunately, there are children who seek affection because they don't receive it at home and I understand that some priests can give up," he said on La7 channel. "Paedophilia is a sin, and like all sins have to be accepted, also." He went on affirming that homosexuality "is a disease".
The statement comes as Pope Francis opened a synod of Roman Catholic bishops focusing on family issues amid an unprecedented row over the church's attitudes and dogmas on homosexuality. On 5 October, the Argentine pontiff urged the church to "move forward", saying it was not "a museum to keep or preserve".
Days before the key meeting of 300 church leaders, Poland-born Vatican priest Krzysztof Charisma announced he was in a gay relationship, saying he wanted to challenge the institution's "backwards" attitude to homosexuality.

The report found there were at least 67 cases of sexual abuse over six decades at the Regensburger Domspatzen boys choir boarding schools in southern Germany. There were also 500 cases of physical abuse. Nine of the 49 members of the Catholic church involved in the scandal were perpetrators of sexual abuse.
The lawyer who investigated the abuse, Ulrich Weber, explained how there had been a “culture of silence”. And he said the head of the choir from 1964 to 1994, Georg Ratzinger, could take part of the blame for “looking the other way and failing to intervene”. Ratzinger is the elder brother of former Pope Benedict XVI. He has denied knowing about the abuse.
Victims from between 1945 and the early 1990s said the schools were like “a prison, hell and a concentration camp”; and they described the experience as “the worst time of their lives, characterised by fear, violence and hopelessness”.
Because of the time that’s passed since the abuses, the alleged perpetrators are unlikely to face criminal charges.
Is it only the Catholic church?
The UN has previously accused the Vatican of “systematically” forging policies which allowed priests to get away with the sexual abuse of thousands of children. The 2015 film Spotlight also highlighted this issue. It looked at the true story of Boston Globe journalists who helped abuse survivors to expose the systematic cover-up of large-scale sexual abuse.
As Patheos.com argues, “religion in general is often a child-abuse breeding ground”. And in 2009, the Vatican’s permanent observer to the UN claimed that ‘only 1.5%-5%’ of Catholic clergy were involved in such abuse. This was a fairly good record, he suggested, when compared to abuse in Protestant and Jewish communities. And he insisted that abuse by family members, babysitters, friends, or neighbours was much more common. Other Catholic commentators have also sought to put the issue in this context; arguing that – in perspective – the Vatican has done fairly well in cracking down on abuse.
But critics have pointed out that the authoritarian nature of the Catholic church has all too often meant that its main priority is to “protect the priest in power and the Catholic hierarchy”. They’ve also stressed that “no other religion has such copious funds, the better to lobby legislatures, pay for a phalanx of slick defense lawyers, and settle abuse cases out of court”.
