Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has again thanked Russia for supplying his country with weapons, despite objections from the United States.
Speaking in Moscow, Mr Chavez said there had been "extraordinary progress" in military ties between the two sides.
Russian officials say Moscow's arms sales to Venezuela are now worth more than S3bn (£1.6bn), including a new deal for fighter jets and helicopters.
Washington has warned that the move could destabilise South America.
In Moscow, Mr Chavez also received support for Venezuela's bid to get a seat on the UN Security Council. |

Correction: "Washington has warned that it will have to invade to bring Democracy, Peace and Freedom to the oppressed people of Venezuala and free them from their totalatarian tinpot dictator before they can shoot back".
The US just hates countries where the people have a happy existence. |

I'm sure you mean the 'US administration' - after all its not as though a majority of the American people even voted Bush into power, hence the need for vote rigging for him to win! |

The USA wishes to be a monopolist in weapon questions. Also wishes to decide whom to give the weapon to whom is not present. I think the USA in South America it is necessary to move. AK-100 series cheap enough weapon. Considering that Venezuela will have a military industrial complex, it will complicate possible military aggression of the USA against Venezuela. |

Strange how the neocons insist on the right to bear arms in the USA but spend so much time denying so many countries the right to choose what weapons they want to possess. Nice to know they are in fact in favour of gun control. Just a matter of scale really. Ten thousand deaths a year in the USA is acceptable. |

venesuala seem to be one of the few countries to make a successful move away from capatilsm and make real progress towards having a stable, happy society. chavez seems to actually care about his people. _________________ "During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act" |
