The best article I have read is "Anti-Defamation League: Civil Rights and Wrongs" by Abdeen Jabara in Covert Action Quarterly, issue 45, summer 1993. This summarised the early 90s scandal of the ADL, Roy Bullock and Tom Gerard.

Whilst offiicially a group monitoring anti-semitism and racism, the ADL was caught out running a long term private spy network against "pinkos", the far right and "Arabs". This information was shared with the US and Israeli governments, plus that of apartheid era South Africa.

This was also covered in the San Francisco Examiner at the time, and a google search of any of the above names would be worthwhile. Case study 6 in the Feral House book Snitch Culture is devoted to the ADL spying scandal, and they also attach the groups spied on by the ADL

Finally it is worth remembering that there is a British version of the ADL - the Searchlight organisation, who publish the monthly magazine Searchlight.
