Aftermath: World Trade Centre Archive by Joel Meyerowitz

Looks like this could potentially be a valuable source of photographic evidence such as the thermite photo often referred to etc. Noticed the release in a London free paper yesterday (Sept 7th). It said;

' The first shock about this annotated archive of images taken after the World Trade Centre was destroyed is that, without Joel Meyerowitz's seemingly dogged determination, it wouldn't have been possible. Meyerowitz became intertwined with the twin towers' fate while working on an exhibition photographing them from his 19th Street apartment. His last photograph of the towers standing, taken on September 5, 2001, is included here. But his subsequent desire to chronicle their destruction was, he claims, hampered by the authorities, who stressed that the site was a crime scene and restricted his access.
It was only through help from the Borough Commisioner, the Museum of the City of New York, a number of canny disguises, forged passes and those on site who empathised with Meyerowitz's project that Ground Zero became open for his viewing.
The photographs in this enormous book are eerily compelling; twisted and rusty steel, piles of dust, grey skies, broken windows, workers, cranes and machinery dominate. But the images that linger are the ones alluding to the twin towers' former role; pages flutter, workers rest on a scattering of office chairs, and a wall depicts snapshots of some of the 1,796 people still unaccounted for nine months later. They have an informative bent, too; in one image are reams of coiled hosepipe, cast aside because because the fires were too high, engines had been crushed and water was too scarce.
If the iconic images of the fireball engulfing thde twin towers looked like something from an action movie, the glimpses of devastation in Afermath hammer home the loss of life, destruction and the changed community that emerged after it - a feeling made even more poignant by the fact that this compelling collection almost never existed.'

At £45 though it isn't cheap!
