So the Screws' revelations about Roman Abramovitch and one of his 'advisors' (er female, 23ish and a bit of a looker) has sent his wife Irina running to divorce lawyers 'Jaws' & 'Payout' (not a 'no win no fee' firm I understand). Needless to say the oligarch is now busy spiriting offshore the leftovers from last night's take away.

This is speculation on my part but this bit of marital inconvenience is what just might happen to you if you forget your mission. Abramovitch was helped out of Russia by fellow oligarch and mentor Boris Berezovski and 'allowed' (ha!ha!) to settle here (on the recommendation of 'dirty digger' Murdoch no less) on the understanding that he helped the Motherland look westward (code for foment 'democratic' revolution which in turn is code for rule by oligarch).

Belly kisser Putin had other ideas. By renationalising oil major Yukos and slinging its quasi legal owner Mikhail Khordorkovsky (as principled a robber baron as you're ever likely to get) in jail the diminuitive Tsar sent expatriate agitators a very clear signal what he was likely to do them and any of their assets that happened to be within the unfortunate reach of Moscow's tentacles.

All of a sudden Roman became a cheer leader for the regime (in his own peculiar, subdued, taciturn way) that he was forced to flee a la Bourbon (gems stitched into Y fronts) barely three years before. In doing this, of course, he underestimated the threat on his right flank and how any attack might come.

Whether or not pouty Daria Zhokova was a classic MI6 honey trap we'll probably never know but Murdoch got there first and that's really all we need to know. Virtually at a stroke billion dollar man is barely half the chap he used to be. And the poison dwarf in the Kremlin is poised to lop off the remainder of his manhood at the first hint of an apology to his sponsors.

Even oligarchs, it seems, can't face east and west at the same time.

It seems the entire world is being run by pirates although we don't hear too much (yet) of the ones behind the economic powerhouse that is the PR of China today.
I'll have to put in some background reading about Putin's world. I'll bet there's a lot to discover about a whole world of robber barons besides our own home-grown western ones.
