As if we haven't had enough excitement in the last few weeks Mr Clive Ponting does not force England to follow-on at the Gabba (making my research on England's most humiliating defeat a complete waste of time) but opts to put his side in to bat again with a measly-peasly lead of only four and a half squillion runs.

This bizarre course of action was endlessly picked over on BBC Radio Five Live, BBC News 24, BBC 2 etc yesterday and virtually every single possible reason for it from Ponting sparing his bowlers (Australia ONLY have a four man attack) to waging aggressive sporting warfare was proferred.

Virtually every single possible reason for it but one...the simple fact that if England had followed-on there would have been a very great risk of them being skittled out again on only the third day, leaving two cricketless days.

Do you think the Australian Cricket Board would have been happy with that? Do you think the cricket fans with full and 4th & 5th day match tickets would have been happy with that? Do you think that Test, ground & matchday programme sponsors and advertisers would have been happy with that? Do you think that national and international television and radio broadcast rights holders (including the fookin' BBC) and their advertisers would have been happy with that?

You don't think that some ol' blazer had a word in Clive's ear along the lines of 'either string this thing out till Monday or kiss your double bonus goodye' do you? It's just not cricket is it?

And you don't think that the A-Z of BBC lowlife could possibly have had any wind of this (assuming of course that it was true) do you? I mean they don't actually rehearse anything for when cricket matches end early or get rained off do they? And you don't think that if they can't be frank about trivial things like cricket matches that they can be frank about anything really serious do you?

Something really serious like the death of a former KGB spy..

I was appalled to see a 20 minute news report about 'The Ashes' following the 5 minute report on some dead russian protesting spy guy.

The tone was serious and we had reporters on the scene. It was tense, it was imporant....this was .....CRICKET!!!

WHO THE **** CALLS THIS bs NEWS!!

Pincher, I just wish people would wake up.
There is no cricket happening at all. It's just clever computer stuff with which they can throw out whatever sporting result will have the appropriate impact on the masses at the time.
The same goes for all pro sport, actually, and for those who claim that they actually attended, say, a game of soccer, well that was probably a staged live version just to try and prolong the illusion.
It's a known fact that the Men in Black can mobilise 50,000 sheeple at the flick of switch via stealth Rfid, and when you consider that the Men in Black are just puppets themselves, the nagging worry is that we might be the only few hundred people left who can still have any independent thoughts....which brings me to my main point, oh...hang on..I think a beam weapon or a missile might be coming my way, I'd better just double-check and actually look out of the window so that I have my sources correct when I try and post this on a forum...er...no, but it is some strange form of bio-experimental weapon and it has just crashed in the next door neighbours pond...on a Sunday as well!

I recall, not very long ago, Arsenal played a premiership fixture at Bradford City, this was covered by BBC 'Match of the Day' in "highlights" that night. I was staggered, thinking Bradford played Arsenal off the pitch! ...until I read the match stats in the paper the following day, Arsenal had had 30 plus goal attempts to Bradford's 6, some Arsenal baiter at the beeb had obviously willfully misepresented the balance of play, a bit like they make the 9/11 truth an un-story.

re. cricket and the BBC I hate it when radio5Live are reporting some terrible human tragedy, perhaps an interview with grieving parents who've just lost their only daughter in a terrible accident and just when one of the parents starts to speak the interviewer interrupts with sorry, I'll have to stop you there, there's been a wicket in the cricket over to Jonathan Agnew Rolling Eyes
