I'm currently trying to find any instances where it is confirmed that the Metropolitan Police actually said in a press release/conference etc that the 7/7 bombers took the 07:40 train from Luton.
I know and believe that this train was in fact cancelled and therefore they couldn't have caught this train but I have yet to see any OFFICIAL confirmation that the Metropolitan Police said it was this train they caught.
I know that the bombers could ONLY have caught the 07:24 from Luton and even then it is extremely unlikely (almost impossbile) they could have bought a ticket and managed to get on this train.
If you look at my signature below you'll see that people will resort to any pedantry in order not to be made to accept this. The current pedantry are these:
1 The E-mails from the Thameslink officials don't show the date 2005. (Yes it's pathetic isn't it?)
2 The Metropolitan Police never said that the bombers had caught the 07:40.
Please can you help? _________________ There comes a time when silence is betrayal |

The time is confirmed in the following report by the UK Independent 13/07/05 - titled 'From Leeds to London via Luton: the deadly mission of a suicide squad....
http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/crime/article298806.ece
Quote: | Earlier that morning the four British men of Pakistani origin had met at Luton train station. Their rucksacks packed with explosives, they boarded the 7.48am Thameslink train and arrived at King's Cross in north London at 8.20am. |
In another report from the Independent on the same day titled 'Police unmask the men responsible for bombings'
Quote: | the police stated that the breakthrough in the investigation came at 8pm on Monday when detectives found a CCTV picture of the four bombers at King's Cross station 20 minutes before they blew themselves up. |
I hope this information is helpful. |

Adrain the report in the Independent was written hours after
the police breakthrough and the Independent report written
by Jason Bennetto and Ian Herbert confirms that.
Earlier that morning the four British men of Pakistani origin had
met at Luton train station. Their rucksacks packed with explosives,
they boarded the 7.48am Thameslink train and arrived at King's
Cross in north London at 8.20am.
Check out the 7.48 train what time did it arrive etc. If want more
proof PM me your address I will send you my copy of 13/07 report
in the Independent. Sadly my dog had chewed the bottom of this
report but the information I have given is still there. If you want to
pay I think you can source this information on line. |

I have the full document in question and other sources which state different train times - the point I was making is that there is no official police release stating 0740 or 0748 for that matter. If my memory serves me correctly the Independent actually reported they got the 0724 aswell.
Will try and find that doc to be sure, but my point remains - I haven't found anything 'official' to confirm the police think they got the 0740, 0748 etc

I know what you're after Adrian. I had a look and have yet to find a public record that the police said it was definately x train, but I will keep probing |

I have information from the British Transport Police re: times trains left Kings Cross and train timetables on my blog:
http://bridgetdunnes.blogspot.com/
According to tonights (27/10/05) BBC2 Horizon programme the train they supposedly took from Luton Thameslink station left at 7.48 am, this arrived at Kings Cross at 8.42 am which would mean it would have been impossible to have boarded these underground trains. _________________ 'The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie -- deliberate, contrived and dishonest, but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
