I think it's about time we stop referring to sites like these as "alternative news".
It's time to take the mainstream media title from the corporate PR machines. So let's have proper news sites, just called news and let's have the current MSM sites referred to as Corporate PR Sites. 
Just my 2p worth but I think it's a more accurate description. |

I tend to simply use the word 'truth'.
How about 'Complimentary news' ? No, that sounds even worse than alternative news.
A good 2p worth none the less busker. News from any doublespeak source is never truth anyway, I don't even believe the weather forecast anymore. If enough of us believe the sun will shine - it will! Ever tried cloud busting?
One thing I have found that watching the news can do, particularly when watching it in a group, is that before you know where you are, everyone is sucked into a drama caused by the reaction to what is being said. This is of course one of the desired effects. Divide and rule.
I always ensure my spam filter is on a high setting when ever subjecting myself to any form of 'News'

We basically read through all the outlets we can and add the most pertinent articles or those that we feel have not had enough shine.
It will not always be 'news' in the sense that it's new, but (nearly) always from news sources.
Since it's a new site we're still adding a huge back catalogue of older articles, so for the foreseeable future there will be a lot of older articles being added to the front page.

aside from actual NEWS, I've been adding a vast number of articles on 7/7 and Operation Gladio
