Abu Izzadeen, the man who barracked the home secretary, John Reid, at a press conference last year, was today arrested for allegedly encouraging terrorism, Scotland Yard said.
Mr Izzadeen, 31, is well known in the UK for his radical Islamist views.

Today, he was detained at around 9.30am in Leyton High Road, east London, under the Terrorism Act 2006 and taken to a central London police station, where he remains in custody.

It is understood today's arrest of Mr Izzadeen is linked to alleged offences last year in the West Midlands area.

The arrest does not relate to an ITV News report earlier this week which carried allegations about a sermon he is said to have made at a London mosque in 2004.

Mr Izzadeen was previously the spokesman for the radical group al-Ghurabaa, which its leaders now claim is disbanded. It was one of several successor groups to al-Muhajiroun and both groups were believed to have been led by Omar Bakri Mohammed. Both groups are now banned by the government.

Last September, as Mr Reid attempted to give a speech in east London to moderate Muslims, Mr Izzadeen heckled him before being ejected by security.

Mr Izzadeen was born in Hackney, east London, as Trevor Brooks but changed his name after converting to Islam in the 1990s

We can take as read that Izzadeen is an MI5 provocateur. So why arrest him for illegally saying something or other? There are two scenarios.

Firstly, the Birmingham raid is turning into a fiasco. The police are rowing with the MI5 behind the scene over who's going to take the blame and then up pops Abu Bahkr. He makes it clear that it was a fiasco because he was released after the Birmingham police raid and he is saying that Britain is a police state for Muslims. Of course, this is even more embarassing because the authorities know they are going to have to releaase more people. Britain should be a police state for Muslims but when the white population are ready for it and that means not yet. So, they then arrest Izzadeen to make out there are real trouble makers out there that they're dealing with. But, of course, we know that Izzadeen is one of them. The Izzadeen arrest is a useful distraction from the Birmingham fiasco.

The second scenario is that both Bakr and Izzadeen are provocateurs. Bakr worked in a bookshop which was clearly a centre for provocateurs.

MI5 tried to recruit founder of bookshop

So, Bakr's reasonable police state accusation is meant to rile Muslims and promote their anger. Which is then used by the authorities to make out that the Muslims are dangerous. The Izzadeen arrest, occuring one whole year after the supposed offence, serves as more evidence of a police state.

There are problems with both scenarios. Scenario A has to assume that Bakr is genuine even though the worked at the provocateur bookshop. And, he did not say whether that the police did not ask him about the owner of the provocateur bookshop and if he was genuine, they would have done. Scenario B's problem is that Muslims are not likely to get angry over the arrest of Izzadeen given that many think he's either an idiot or an MI5 agent anyway.

I did a little refresher course in this person.

Quote:
Izzadeen was born Trevor Brooks in Hackney, London, before changing his first name to Omar, and ultimately renaming himself altogether.

Hackney, twinned with Haifa. Never included in 'Rotten Boroughs' someone on this board complained.

Quote:
Immediately after 7/7, Izzadeen was recorded by Richard Watson on BBC's Newsnight praising Osama bin Laden and saying that Britain will become a sharia state.

How convenient.

I read and posted earlier that Izzadeen's arrest was related to a speech he made on 6.7.6 in Birmingham, but the Daily mail had this on 6.2.7

Extremist called for beheading of soldiers

An Islamic extremist was described by a senior MP as a "terrorist" yesterday after he was filmed calling for the beheading of British Muslim soldiers.

The footage of Abu Izzadeen, speaking at a London mosque, came to light days after police foiled an alleged plot to kidnap and behead a Muslim in the British Army.

Izzadeen, 30, calls the Government "crusaders who come to kill and rape Muslims' and says that any Muslim who joins the Army should have his head "removed".

The video, recorded in 2004, was discovered on a password protected extremist website.

It has been passed to police, who will assess whether Izzadeen's comments have broken the law.

Tory homeland security spokesman Patrick Mercer demanded Home Office action to stop Izzadeen - who once called the 7/7 suicide bombers "praiseworthy" - spreading more messages of hate.

"This sort of thing clearly incites people to carry out the sort of acts for which people have been arrested in recent days," Mr Mercer said. "By inciting this sort of thing Abu Izzadeen is clearly acting as a terrorist."

Yesterday Izzadeen said he had merely been explaining Islamic law to fellow Muslims at Regent's Park Mosque and had stressed that no Muslim should take the law into his own hands.

But he repeated that Muslims who join the Army and fight other Muslims should face the death penalty under Shariah law.

The video of his speech was uncovered by Vigil, a private antiterror organisation which scours the Internet for evidence of terrorist or extremist activity.

Izzadeen tells his followers: "Whoever allies himself with the kaffirs [non-believers] against the believers, he is one of them. So those enemies to Allah who join the British Government - because remember, the British Government are crusaders who come to kill and rape Muslims - whoever joins them, he who joins the British Army, he is a mortal kaffir and his only hukum [punishment] is for his head to be removed.

"Whoever changes his deen [Muslim code of life]: Kill him."

Inayat Bunglawala, spokesman for the Muslim Council of Britain, said: "Abu Izzadeen has no qualification whatsoever to speak about Muslims becoming unbelievers by joining the Army. British Muslims can join the Army and the police, and we encourage them to do so."

Regent's Park Mosque stressed that Izzadeen's comments in no way represented its views.

Izzadeen was born Trevor Brooks and raised as a Christian by his Jamaican-born parents.

At 17 he converted to Islam, discovered the preachings of "Tottenham Ayatollah" Omar Bakri Mohammed, and made it his mission to propagate Bakri's poisonous anti-Western views.

In 2001 his name was raised in Parliament after he spoke out in support of the 9/11 attacks.

The former electrician, who lives on benefits in Leyton, East London, also shouted abuse at John Reid last year at the Home Secretary's first public meetings with Muslims after taking up the post.

He said of the video yesterday: "I was talking about the Islamic penal code, under which any Muslim who fights against other Muslims is an apostate, which is punishable by death.

"That's why we have described the guy killed in Afghanistan(British soldier Lance Corporal Jabron Hashmi) as apostate.

"But this punishment can only be carried out after due process in an Islamic court. I was most certainly not telling people to take the law into their own hands.

"I also repeatedly said during that speech that the British people live under a covenant of security, meaning Muslim neighbours in the UK are protected."

He said the release of the video was "politically motivated".

Worth bringing up the first manifestation of the 'beheadning' meme - Berg psyop in Ahu Graib

There are several postings on message boards suggesting that the digital watermarks on the Berg and Abu Ghraib videos are exactly the same.

Not dope, but common sense. He praises 'Muslims' that 'carried out' 911 and 7/7; screams out 'agent provocateur' to me.
