I was surprised to find this in the Derby Telegraph a few weeks ago. And before you ask, NO I didn't put the sign in question up! But I have put a few others up saying the same thing (see other threads)

You know it's sad to hear of elderly people getting upset about this. I can understand they might not have the internet skills to find out about the issues like we can. I can also understand them relating all this stuff to the great wars and what they went through.

But really they ought to be informed about the facts as difficult as it might be for them.

Would it be cruel to send Mrs Middelton some information to read or maybe a dvd or two to let her see what the problem is, or would it be a waste of time ?

Now you mention it - I managed to find her address from Directory Enquiries so will drop her a sympathetic line...

I believe it is very important to understand and consider our fellow human beings.

However we live in an age for which "giving Offence" has become the highest sin. To me this is ludicrous. Just like the agenda of "political Correctness" it encourages us to "police ourselves" and tie ourselves in knots offering "nice" versions of ourselves, instead of being authentic and genuine. I much prefer genuine ethics to shallow tokenisms.

I know many in the movement simply won't understand me - or will assume me less spiritually evolved than them when I say this - but some people might need to be offended. It might be evidence of cognitive dissonance rather than being sinned against.

Tony Gosling says on his website that he beilieves Bill Hicks to have been a very christian person. I agree. But how many unfortunates won't get past the swear words to see the Christ like concern with values, ethics and the treatment of our fellow beings. If ever there was a prophet, I think it was he.

Love and peace to all (but never twee mawkishness Smile

xx
