John Reid was/is? a communist. Gulag UK anyone?

Quote:
Mass murder of a type never before seen in human history was carried out in Russia by the Soviet government from 1917 until roughly 1953. That was the world's first modern holocaust, i.e. the systematic murder of millions of people by a government. The Soviet holocaust began years before the Nazis killed anyone in significant numbers [1].

After communists created the Soviet Union, they murdered or oppressed anyone who opposed them, or might oppose them in the future. The result was a 36-year campaign of bloodshed and mayhem. The people who ran the Soviet Union were felons who were not elected to power. Many of them had been wanted by the law, or had served time in jail, before they achieved their positions of authority. [Given that fact, it seems odd that anyone would consider the Soviet Union to be a valid entity. Yet American president Franklin Roosevelt did, as did various Western celebrities].

UPDATE

damn! is original dissent a white supremacy site? I don't truck with that if it is.

It is true
The communists who took over Russia were guilty of more genocide than anyone since or before.

But nobody ever talks about it they always brush it under the carpet.

Well done for highlighting it.

I dont think you can say the Stalinist purges are never talked about. They were on my GCSE curriculum and are used as a byword for a government killing or displacing its own loyal subjects.

Its also often referred to a leader whose officers are promoted on the basis of their political reliability rather than military prowess.

Until New Labour, Old Labour was made up of a significant number of communists or communist sympathisers. Singling John Reid out is a bit unfair, there's LOADS of em in there ;)

As well as history GCSE, we also covered Stalin's naughty antics when we did 'Animal Farm' in English.
Frankly, I'm bemused why anyone thinks Soviet crimes are 'brushed under the carpet'; forty years as 'official enemy' got them accused of pretty much everything including wanting to take over the world. People do remember the cold war, right?

I'm enjoying lurking at originaldissent for the comedy value - cheers for the tip, Rodin.

Note the new EU hate crime laws exclude the Young Turks and Armenians, and make no mention of the above...

There is a pattern

Socialism is despicable. It is all about nurturing the hierarchy. Same as communism (bolshevick style) and fascism

The Ottoman Turkish Empire began a mass deportation of Armenians during World War I.
