The News is that a new alternative international TV network or "counter-spin" is being launched from Toronto, Canada. They need cash. See letter below.


Dear Friend of The Real News,

Do you miss Counter-Spin with its diverse and critical perspectives? Well, its executive producer, Paul Jay, along with a remarkable team of creative media people are creating a television network of global dimensions. It is a non-profit news, debate, and documentary television/internet network focused on providing independent and uncompromising journalism. The Real News will not accept advertising, corporate or government funding. This exciting project is based right here in Toronto and we are writing to invite you to a reception that will introduce you to it.

We are very proud to be part of the International Founding Committee (including Naomi Klein, George Monbiot and Gore Vidal), building this Network. This exciting project, backed by a Journalist Advisory Committee and a strong international Board of Directors.

Collaborating with courageous journalists around the globe, IWT is about to launch The Real News, a daily world news hour for television and a 24/7 video news service on the Internet. The Real News will investigate, report, and debate stories on the critical events and issues of our time. The Real News will give due attention to the movements for the rights of working people, women, children, immigrants, indigenous peoples, for peace, and against racism. Climate change and the health of our planet will be a story day after day in our Global Warning segment. The Real News will give important stories the attention and sense of urgency they deserve.

For crucial reasons related to guaranteeing editorial freedom to dig deep into news stories. The project will operate on an independent member-supported funding model. Studio and Website Highlights

IWT staff will be available around the studio to introduce you to the website and broad-ranging and in-depth programming being planned and to provide behind-the-scenes demonstrations.

You will have a chance to become a member of IWT. You will also be able to indicate at the various Studio tables how you might be able to contribute your expertise and advice as well as financial support. But even if you feel you can't, please do come in any case. We are sure that you will soon be watching The Real News and that you will enjoy being introduced to it at this reception with plenty of wine and hors d'oeuvres!
